Claims
- 1. A method for the liquid phase epoxidation of an olefin having from about 2 to about 60 carbon atoms with an organic hydroperoxide comprising the step of:
- intimately contacting said olefin with said organic hydroperoxide at lower temperatures of about 25.degree. C to about 200.degree. C and pressures sufficient to maintain the product and reactants substantially in liquid phase in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a binary boride of boron and at least one non-boron element selected from the group consisting of carbon and silicon.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein said nonboron element is silicon.
- 3. The method of claim 2 wherein said binary boride compound is selected from the group consisting of SiB.sub.4 and SiB.sub.6.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said non-boron element is carbon.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein said binary boride is selected from a group consisting of B.sub.12 C.sub.3 and B.sub.4 C.
