Claims
- 1. A method for the liquid phase epoxidation of an olefin having from about 2 to about 60 carbon atoms with an organic hydroperoxide comprising the step of:
- intimately contacting said olefin with said organic hydroperoxide at lower temperatures of about 25.degree. C. to about 200.degree. C. and pressures sufficient to maintain the product and reactants substantially in liquid phase in the presence of a catalytically effective amount of a binary boride of boron and a metal selected from the group consisting of vanadium, niobium and tantalum.
- 2. The method of claim 1 wherein the said metal is niobium.
- 3. The method of claim 1 wherein said binary boride compound is NbB.
- 4. The method of claim 1 wherein said metal is tantalum.
- 5. The method of claim 1 wherein said binary boride is selected from a group consisting of TaB and TaB.sub.2.
- 6. The method of claim 1 wherein said metal is vanadium.
