Box and cover combination

Abstract

A box and cover combination comprises a box and a cover. The box includes an opening, and a hole is defined in each of two opposed sides defining the opening of the box. The cover includes a peripheral edge in an underside thereof. The peripheral edge includes two opposed engaging portions each having an engaging face. An engaging hole is defined in each engaging face. Two positioning plates each have an end pivotally connected to an associated one of the engaging portions and include an engaging member. When the cover is attached to the box, each engaging face of the cover is located in the opening of the box, and each positioning plate is located outside the box. The engaging member of each positioning plate is extendible through an associated hole of the box into the engaging hole of an associated engaging face.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention The present invention relates to a box and cover combination having an improved engaging effect therebetween.

[0003] FIGS. 4 and 5 of the drawings illustrate a conventional box and cover combination. The box 1′ includes an opening 11′, and the cover 2′ includes a peripheral edge 21′ that is force-fitted into the opening 11′ of the box 1′. A hook 22′ is provided on top of the cover 2′, allowing the cover 2′ and the box 1′ to be hung on a display shelf or the like. However, the cover 2′ is apt to be disengaged from the box 1′ if the force-fitting engagement therebetween is not tight enough. This would happen inevitably under the action of gravity if the hook 22′ is hung on a display shelf or hook. On the other hand, opening of the cover 2′ is difficult if the engagement between the peripheral edge 21′ of the cover 2′ and opening 11′ of the box 11′ is too tight.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0004] A box and cover combination in accordance with the present invention comprises a box and a cover. The box includes an opening, and a hole is defined in each of two opposed sides defining the opening of the box. The cover includes a peripheral edge in an underside thereof and a hook on a top thereof. The peripheral edge of the cover has a width smaller than that of the opening of the box. The peripheral edge includes two opposed engaging portions each having an engaging face. An engaging hole is defined in each engaging face. Two positioning plates each have an end pivotally connected to an associated one of the engaging portions and include an engaging member.

[0005] When the cover is attached to the box, each engaging face of the cover is located in the opening of the box, and each positioning plate is located outside the box. The engaging member of each positioning plate is extendible through an associated hole of the box into the engaging hole of an associated engaging face.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0012] Referring to FIGS. 1 and 2, a box and cover combination in accordance with the present invention generally comprises a box 1 having an opening 12 and a cover 2. Two holes 12 are respectively defined in two opposed sides defining the opening 12 of the box 1.

[0013] The cover 2 includes a peripheral edge 21 having a width smaller than that of the opening 11 of the box 1. The peripheral edge 21 includes two opposed engaging portions 22 each having an engaging face 23. An engaging hole 24 is defined in each engaging face 23. Further, a positioning plate 25 has an end pivotally connected to each engaging portion 22. In this embodiment, each positioning plate 25 is integrally formed with the associated engaging portion 22 and includes a bendable portion 27 on an upper end thereof. An engaging member 26 is provided on an inner face of each positioning plate 25. A hook 28 is provided on top of the cover 2.

[0014] Referring to FIGS. 2 and 3, when attaching the cover 2 to the box 1, the peripheral edge 21 of the cover 2 is inserted into the opening 11 of the box 1 with each engaging face 23 being located in the opening 11 and with each positioning plate 25 located outside the box 1. Each positioning plate 25 is the pivoted toward the box 1 until the engaging member 26 of each positioning plate 25 is extended through the associated hole 12 of the box 1 into the engaging hole 24 of the associated engaging face 23. Thus, the cover 2 is securely attached to the box 1. Disengagement of the cover 2 from the box 1 is avoided, even if the hook 28 is hung on a hook or the like. Removal of the cover 2 from the box 1 can only be achieved when each positioning plate 25 is pivoted away from the box 1. The peripheral edge 21 of the cover 2 needs not to be in tight engagement with the peripheral wall defining the opening 11 of the box 1 due to provision of the positioning plate 25 and the engaging hole 24.

[0015] Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.

Claims

1. A box and cover combination comprising: a box including an opening, a hole being defined in each of two opposed sides defining the opening of the box; and a cover including a peripheral edge in an underside thereof and a hook on a top thereof, the peripheral edge of the cover having a width smaller than that of the opening of the box, the peripheral edge including two opposed engaging portions each having an engaging face, an engaging hole being defined in each said engaging face, two positioning plates each having an end pivotally connected to an associated one of the engaging portions and including an engaging member; wherein when the cover is attached to the box, each said engaging face of the cover being located in the opening of the box, and each said positioning plate being located outside the box, the engaging member of each said positioning plate being extendible through an associated one of the holes of the box into the engaging hole of an associated one of the engaging faces.

2. The box and cover combination as claimed in claim 1, wherein each positioning plate is integrally formed with an associated one of the engaging portions and includes a bendable portion on an upper end thereof.
