The present invention relates to a mount for a boxing bag which adds additional features to use of the boxing bag. The term boxing bag as used herein includes any bag used for exercise and self-defense training such as punching bags, kickboxing bags, kick bags, aqua bags, punch bags, and the like.
Boxing training using a boxing punching bag is one of the most efficient forms of training for fitness and self-defense. It would be ideal to add additional features to a punching bag to improve a user's skills and provide interesting and varied exercises
The present invention seeks to overcome or substantially ameliorate at least some of the deficiencies of the prior art, or to at least provide an alternative.
It is to be understood that, if any prior art information is referred to herein, such reference does not constitute an admission that the information forms part of the common general knowledge in the art, in Australia or any other country.
According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a boxing bag mount comprising:
Preferably, the mounting means is an attachment plate which is generally horizontal in use, the attachment plate comprising a peripheral ring to which upper support chains of the boxing bag can be looped around.
Alternatively, the mounting means is an attachment ring.
Preferably, the pivot bar comprises two socket formations extending in opposing lateral directions thereof for removable attachment of two feature arms thereto.
Preferably, the socket formations extend generally parallel to the attachment plate in use.
Preferably, each feature arm comprises a first portion which extends outwardly from the respective socket formation, a second portion which extends downwardly from the first portion, and a third portion extending generally outwardly from the second portion and which holds the boxing feature for the arm.
In one embodiment, the boxing feature is to be at a height aligned with an upper portion of the boxing bag.
In another embodiment, the second portion is of adjustable length so the boxing features can be positioned along the bag as desired.
In another embodiment, the third portion is adjustable in orientation so that the direction or orientation of the boxing features can be varied as desired.
The invention also provides an assembly comprising the boxing bag mount of the above and a boxing bag having support chains spaced about its upper periphery which are attached to the attachment plate such that the attachment plate moves with the boxing bag.

Notwithstanding any other forms which may fall within the scope of the present invention, preferred embodiments of the present invention will now be described, by way of examples only, with reference to the accompanying drawings.
It should be noted in the following description that like or the same reference numerals in different embodiments denote the same or similar features.
The boxing bag mount 10 comprises an attachment plate 12 which is adapted for attaching the boxing bag 50 thereto. The attachment plate 12 is generally horizontal in use and comprises a peripheral ring 14 to which upper support chains 52 of the boxing bag 50 can be looped around. The boxing bag 50 has upper support chains 52 spaced around its upper periphery and thus hangs downwardly from the attachment plate 12.
The attachment plate 12 comprises a central post 16 extending upwardly from a central point thereof. The central post 16 includes an attachment formation 18 for mounting the boxing bag mount 10 to the structure, such as an attachment point for a chain, link or similar of the structure.
The boxing bag mount 10 additionally comprises a pivot bar 20 which extends generally horizontally and is mounted to the central post 16 in a rotatable manner. The pivot bar 20 comprises socket formations 22 extending in opposing lateral directions thereof. The pivot bar 20 is thus disposed above the attachment plate 12 and can be spun around the central post 16 in either direction. The socket formations 22 extend generally parallel to the attachment plate 12 and remain parallel thereto when the pivot bar 20 is spun in use.
The boxing bag mount 10 additionally comprises feature arms 30 which are attachable to the socket formations 22 in a removable manner. Each arm 30 comprises a first portion 32 which extends outwardly from the respective socket formation 22, a second portion 34 which extends downwardly from the first portion 32, and a third portion 36 extending generally horizontally from the second portion and which holds the feature 40 for the arm 30. In the example shown, one arm 30a has a feature 40a which is a padded hit pad and another arm 30b has a feature 40b which is a padded extended duck bar.
The second portions 34 thus extend down in a generally parallel manner to the boxing bag 50 in use, and the features 40 are disposed to extend outwardly relative to the boxing bag 50 at a height aligned with the upper portion of the boxing bag 50. The first portions 32 are of a length to ensure the second portions 34 are at a desired predetermined distance from the boxing bag 50.
As the boxing bag 50 has upper support chains 52 spaced around its upper periphery which are attached to the attachment plate 12, the attachment plate 12 with the arms 30 move with the boxing bag 50 when the boxing bag 50 is hit. Pivoting relative to the structure is via the attachment formation 18 and the attachment plate 12, pivot bar 20 and arms 30 move with the boxing bag 50. As the arms 30 are attached to the pivot bar 20 via the socket formations 22, the arms 30 can be rotated around the upper portion of the boxing bag 50 in either direction. A user for example in use can hit the hit pad 40a which will swing the other arm 30b around to the user at which he/she can then duck to not be hit by the duck bar 40b. Similarly, the user can push on the duck bar 40b which will swing the hit pad 40a around for the user to hit. The user can also punch/strike/elbow/hit the duck bar 40b. The features 40 provided by the boxing bag mount 10 thus provide a more varied and interesting exercise in addition to hitting the boxing bag 50.
The arms 30 are removable from the pivot 20 and the user can then pick the features 40 to use, such as having two features (a hit pad and a duck bar, or two duck bars, or two hit pads, etc.), having one arm/feature only, or no arms/features. The boxing bag 50 can pivot from the attachment formation 18 with the feature arms 30 moving therewith.
The bag 60/70 in this embodiment has a more separate/independent mounting from the arms 30 and so the arms 30 are less affected by the motion of the bag 60/70.
Although a preferred embodiment of the present invention has been described, it will be apparent to skilled persons that modifications can be made to the embodiment shown. For example, the second portions 34 can be made longer or adjustable length so the features 40 can be positioned along the bag 50/60/70 as desired. The distance of the features 40 from the bag can be adjusted, as well as the height of the features 40 from the ground. The third portion 36 can also be made to be adjustable in orientation so that the direction, angle or orientation of the features 40 can be varied as desired. The pivot bar 20 can also include more than two sockets 22 to have additional feature arms 30.
The arms 30 can also be non-detachable from the pivot bar 20. The pivot bar 20 can also be motorized to rotate the arms 30 automatically. The pivot bar 20 can also be biased by springs or similar to provide resistance to hitting of the arms 30 or return the arms 30 back to the user after hitting.
The adjustable arms 30 can include a measuring means such as a laser to accurately portray and measure a “fighters reach” as it is reflected on the ground. The feature arms can be made from any suitable material such as stainless steel, aluminium and carbon fibre.
