- 8. A pick-up head adapted for movement along a predetermined path of travel for removing debris therealong comprising housing means for defining a broom chamber including spaced opposite first and second side walls, a broom in said broom chamber, said broom having a shaft, first and second means adjacent the respective first and second side walls for supporting said shaft first and second end portions for rotation, means for interchangeably connecting first and second end portions of said shaft alternatively to said first and second and second and first shaft supporting means whereby a broom worn tapered can be turned end-for-end and thereby extend the life thereof, said interchangeable connecting means including first and second telescopic coupling connections between said first and second shaft end portions and said respective first and second supporting means, and each of said first and second telescopic coupling connections include a polygonal exterior surface in internal telescopic relationship to a polygonal interior surface.
- 9. The pick-up head as defined in claim 8 wherein said first and second shaft end portions define said polygonal interior surfaces.
- 10. The pick-up head as defined in claim 8 wherein said first and second supporting means define said polygonal exterior surfaces.
- 11. A pick-up head adapted for movement along a predetermined path of travel for removing debris therealong comprising means for defining a broom chamber, a broom in said broom chamber, said broom being adapted to rotate about an axis and having generally axially opposite first and second end portions, first and second support members adjacent said respective broom first and second end portions, first and second means for mounting said first and second support members for pivotal movement, first and second means for allowing axial slidable assembly and disassembly of said first and second support members relative to said respective broom first and second end portions, means carried by said first support member for rotating said broom first end portion, said rotating means includes a rotatable shaft, and said first axial slidable assembly and disassembly means is a telescopic connection between said rotatable shaft and said broom first end portion whereby unified movement of said first support member and rotating means away from said broom first end portion results in the disassembly of said rotatable shaft and broom first end portion, said first support member including first and second members, said rotating means being carried by said first member, said second member being pivoted by said first pivotal movement mounting means, and means for releasably securing said first and second members to each other whereby upon the release of said securing means said rotating means and first member can be bodily disassembled from said broom first end portion.
