Sandwiched between the rubber shield and magnetic backing is a mesh material resistant to penetration from bullets or other propelled projectiles.
Description

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS

[0001] This application is derived from an initial Utility Patent Application for a similar, though not bullet resistant, invention, titled “EXTERIOR VEHICLE BODY PROTECTOR”, which is to be used on any vehicle to protect the exterior from or against nicks, scratches, bumps, chips etc., and which initial application is submitted concurrently with this application.

STATEMENT REGARDING FEDERALLY SPONSORED RESEARCH OR DEVELOPMENT

[0002] Not Applicable.

REFERENCE TO A MICROFICHE APPENDIX

[0003] Not Applicable.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004] This invention relates to vehicle body protection for law enforcement vehicles or other vehicles whose occupants might attract or anticipate gunfire. It is used as a shield to prevent penetration of bullets or other propelled projectiles into the interior of a vehicle from outside. The inventor considers it to be useful and an improvement over prior similar inventions.

[0005] Prior bullet resistant protectors exterior to a vehicle are considered by the inventor to be bulky, awkward, heavy, not easily attached or removed from a vehicle and expensive to manufacture.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The object of the invention is to provide the user with an exterior vehicle body protector which is resistant to bullets or other propelled projectiles, and is lightweight, flexible, easily attached and removed from a vehicle and inexpensive to manufacture. The inventor believes his invention accomplishes that object.

[0007] This invention is based upon the idea behind another application for an invention, titled “EXTERIOR VEHICLE BODY PROTECTOR,” which is filed concurrently with this application.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0014] This invention is a bullet resistant exterior vehicle body protector which consists of a removable, flexible, lightweight, protective rubber shield with magnetic backing. Sandwiched between the rubber shield and magnetic backing is a mesh material resistant to penetration from bullets or other propelled projectiles. The foregoing characteristics of the invention distinguish it from prior inventions created for the same purpose. The item is manually placed on either or both exterior sides of that portion of a vehicle which encloses the front and rear seat compartments (below the side windows and between the front and rear quarter panels).

Claims
  • 1. What I claim as my invention is a bullet resistant vehicle exterior body protector consisting of a removable, flexible, lightweight, protective rubber shield with magnetic backing. Sandwiched between the rubber shield and magnetic backing is a mesh material resistant to penetration from bullets or other propelled projectiles. The invention will protect a vehicle from or against penetration of bullets or other propelled projectiles, as well as nicks, scratches, bumps, chips etc. that may be caused by other vehicles, persons, objects or the elements. This invention is based upon the idea behind another application for an invention, titled “EXTERIOR VEHICLE BODY PROTECTOR,” which application is filed concurrently with this application.
