Claims
- 1. In a butterfly-type valve:
- a generally flat valve plate having generally parallel faces;
- an actuating shaft of circular cross-section for said valve plate, the center axis of said shaft lying between the planes of said faces;
- a projection formed integrally from said valve plate and extending from one of said faces at least partially around said shaft to assist in mechanically locating and retaining said shaft with respect to said valve plate,
- said projection being less in width, taken along said axis, than the width of said valve plate along the same axis,
- the edges of said projection defining said width lying in planes extending generally transversely to said axis;
- locating and sealing portions integral with said valve plate and disposed between the planes of said faces for minimizing gaps between said shaft, projection and valve plate,
- each said portion including a surface which is generally perpendicular to said planes and engages said shaft immediately adjacent to one of said edges of said projection; and
- brazing metal disposed within all the interstices between said valve element, projection and shaft for interconnecting same in a leakproof manner.
- 2. A butterfly-type valve as claimed in claim 1, wherein said projection is continuous and extends around approximately one-half of said shaft, and wherein four of said locating and sealing portions are provided, one on each side of said shaft at each end of said projection.
- 3. A butterfly-type valve as claimed in claim 1, wherein each said locating and sealing portion extends from said projection along said shaft to the periphery of said valve element.
- 4. A butterfly-type valve as claimed in claim 1, wherein a second integral projection extends from said valve plate at least partially around said shaft on the diametrically opposite side thereof from said first-mentioned projection.
- 5. A butterfly-type valve as claimed in claim 4, wherein said locating and sealing portions extend between said edge of said first-mentioned projection and said second projection.
- 6. A butterfly-type valve as claimed in claim 5 wherein said projection is continuous and extends around approximately one-half of said shaft, and wherein four of said locating and sealing portions are provided, one on each side of said shaft at each said end of said projection, and further wherein each said locating and sealing portion extends from said projection along said shaft to the periphery of said valve element.
