Claims
- 1. An improved corrosion resistant cable shielding tape comprising a metal strip having tightly and directly adhered to at least one side thereof an irradiated adhesive layer composed of a copolymer of ethylene and from about 2 to about 20 percent based on copolymer weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, said adhesive layer having a deformation temperature of at least about 270.degree. F. after being irradiated with an effective amount of a high energy ionizing radiation, wherein the adhesive bond between said metal strip and said adhesive layer is at least 2.2 pounds per inch of shielding tape width after aging for seven (7) days in deionized water maintained at a temperature of 70.degree. C.
- 2. An improved cable adapted for use in supplying electrical power and communications comprising a core of at least one insulated conductor, a shield surrounding said core comprising a metal strip having tightly and directly adhered to at least one side thereof an irradiated adhesive layer composed of a copolymer of ethylene and from about 2 to about 20 percent based on copolymer weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, said adhesive layer having a deformation temperature of at least about 270.degree. F. after being irradiated with an effective amount of a high energy ionizing radiation, and an outer plastic jacket surrounding said shield.
