Claims
- 1. A valve assembly in a fluid system of a vehicle transmission for directing fluid flow between a fluid source and at least one fluid actuating device in the transmission, said assembly comprising:
- a manual shaft being actuated in response to a manual input to select at least one predetermined operating mode of the transmission;
- valve means disposed in a housing and being movable therein for directing fluid flow between a fluid source and at least one fluid actuating device;
- a plate member connected to said manual shaft and being rotatable;
- a pin member interconnecting said plate member and said valve means; and
- cam means for positioning said valve means at a predetermined position for the predetermined operating mode when said plate member is rotated.
- 2. An assembly as set forth in claim 1 further characterized by said cam means comprising a slot in said plate member, said pin member being disposed and movable in said slot.
- 3. An assembly as set forth in claim 2 further characterized by said slot having a shape to locate said valve means in the same position for different forward operating modes of the transmission.
- 4. An assembly as set forth in claim 2 further characterized by said slot defining at one end thereof a park position for a park operating mode of the transmission and at the other end an installation position for installing said assembly.
- 5. An assembly as set forth in claim 4 further characterized by said slot defining a reverse position, neutral position, overdrive position, drive position and low position for a reverse, neutral, overdrive, drive and low operating mode of the transmission, respectively.
- 6. A valve assembly in a fluid system of a vehicle transmission for directing fluid flow from a fluid source to at least one clutch apply piston to actuate a clutch assembly to shift the gear assembly, said assembly comprising:
- a manual shaft being manually operated to select a predetermined operating mode of the gear assembly;
- valve means disposed in a housing and being movable therein for directing fluid flow from a fluid source to at least one clutch apply piston to actuate a clutch assembly;
- a plate member connected to said manual shaft and being rotatable;
- a pin member interconnecting said plate member and said valve means;
- cam means for positioning said valve means in at least one of a plurality of predetermined positions when said plate member is rotated; and
- said cam means comprising an irregularly shaped slot in said plate member, said pin member being disposed and movable in said slot.
- 7. A valve assembly in a fluid system of a vehicle transmission for directing fluid flow between a fluid source and at least one fluid actuating device in the transmission, said assembly comprising:
- a member being actuated in response to a manual input to select at least one predetermined operating mode of the transmission;
- valve means for directing fluid flow between a fluid source and at least one fluid actuating device;
- cam means for positioning said valve means in at least one predetermined position for at least one predetermined operating mode when said member is actuated in response to the manual input;
- a rotatable member connected to said member; and
- wherein said cam means comprises a slot in said rotatable member and a connecting member operatively interconnecting said valve means and said rotatable member and movable along said slot.
- 8. An assembly as set forth in claim 7 wherein said slot has an irregular shape.
- 9. An assembly as set forth in claim 7 wherein said slot defines a reverse position, neutral position, overdrive position, drive position and low position for a reverse, neutral, overdrive, drive and low operating mode of the transmission, respectively.
