Claims
- 1. For use in combination with a camera having aperture control means as well as synchronizing terminal means and exposure aperture signal input terminal means, a flash device comprising:
- (A) flash means for emitting a light,
- (B) electric energy storing means electrically connected to the flash means,
- (C) a flash power source electrically connected to the electric energy storing means,
- (D) flash stopping means electrically connected to the flashing means and comprising:
- (a) circuit means forming a timing signal corresponding to a distance to a photographing object to be illuminated, and
- (b) switching means connected to the flash means and operative in response to receiving at least the timing signal from the circuit means to stop the emission of light by the flash means,
- (E) exposure aperture signal forming means forming an electric signal corresponding to a designated diaphragm aperture which achieves optimum exposure according to the amount of light emitted by the flashing means, and
- (F) output terminal means electrically connected to the exposure aperture signal forming means and connectable to the signal input terminal means on the camera when the flash device is used in combination with the camera,
- said exposure aperture signal forming means being adapted to be coupled to the aperture control means when the flash device is electrically coupled to the camera for impressing an exposure aperture designation signal formed by the aperture signal forming means on the aperture control means to adjust the camera exposure aperture value for flash operation,
- the amount of light emitted by the flash device being adjusted to a value according to a distance to an object.
- 2. A flash device according to claim 1, wherein said exposure aperture signal forming means is composed of resistance means.
- 3. A flash device according to claim 1, wherein said exposure aperture signal forming means is composed of a plurality of resistance means and selecting means which permits selection of the resistance means.
- 4. A flash device according to claim 1, wherein energy storage completion detecting means is connected to said energy storing means, for causing the electrical signal of said exposure aperture designation signal forming means to be formed by the detection output of the energy storage completion detecting means.
- 5. A flash device according to claim 1, wherein said circuit means of the flash stopping means comprises an integrating capacitor and a light receiving element which receives a reflected light obtained through the illumination of the photographing object by said flashing means.
- 6. A flash device according to claim 1, wherein said circuit means of the flash stopping means is provided with a capacitor which can be connected to resistance means, the resistance value of which is adjusted to a value corresponding to a distance to the photographing object.
- 7. A flash device according to claim 1, wherein said flash stopping means further comprises
- a control circuit which has a first input terminal connected to said circuit means of the flash stopping means and a second input terminal, the control circuit also having an output terminal connected to said switching means of the flash stopping means,
- input terminal means connected to the second input terminal of the control circuit for receiving an electrical signal corresponding to an exposure aperture value to be defined in the camera, and
- the control circuit comparing the inputs thereto and producing a comparison output to reverse said switching means for stopping the light emission by said flashing means after a length of time determined by the signal of said circuit means and a signal derived from the input terminal means.
- 8. A flash device according to claim 1, wherein said flash stopping means further comprises:
- manually selectable mode setting means settable into an effective mode which renders the flash stopping means effective and an ineffective mode which renders the flash stopping means ineffective,
- signal producing means coupled to said mode setting means,
- said signal producing means being coupled to said switching means to transmit signals from said signal producing means for preventing said switching means from stopping the emission of light from the flash means irrespective of the timing signal from said circuit means by said signal producing means, and for causing said flash means to emit light in accordance with the total stored energy, in said electric energy storing means when said setting means is in the ineffective mode.
- 9. A flash device according to claim 8, wherein said signal producing means is connected with said exposure aperture signal forming means for transmitting the exposure aperture designation signal to said output terminal means only when said selectable mode setting means is set at the effective mode.
- 10. A flash device according to claim 8, wherein said signal producing means is connected with said exposure aperture signal forming means for further transmitting the exposure aperture designation signal to said switching means, whereby the light quantity emitted by said flash means is controlled by the designation signal.
- 11. For use with a flash device having signal means for producing a signal to designate a suitable exposure aperture, a camera comprising:
- (A) a camera body,
- (B) shutter means in the body for determining an exposure time on the basis of the opening and closing thereof,
- (C) synchronizing means coupled to the shutter means for producing a flash starting signal in synchronism with the opening of the shutter means,
- (D) diaphragm means for use with said shutter means for forming an aperture and establishing the amount of light passing therethrough,
- (E) diaphragm control means coupled to the diaphragm means which is provided with a control circuit for controlling the aperture, said control circuit having input and output terminals to produce an electric output in response to an electric signal impressed upon the input terminal for adjustment of said diaphragm means, said diaphragm control means also including defining means connected to the output terminal of the control circuit and coupled to the diaphragm means, and
- (F) electric terminal means on the camera body for selective connection to the signal means of the flash device,
- (G) the electric terminal means being electrically connected to the input terminal of the control circuit of the diaphragm controlling means to cause the diaphragm control means to adjust the diaphragm to the exposure aperture value designated by said flash device,
- said diaphragm control means further comprising variable resistor means having a resistive member and two sliding contacts movable relative to the resistive member, one of said contacts being movable corresponding to the diaphragm aperture to be set, the other of which said contacts being movable corresponding to a maximum aperture value of an objective taking lens to be used with the camera body so that said resistor means produces an electrical signal corresponding to an absolute diaphragm value to be set of said diaphragm means between the two contacts for controlling the aperture of the diaphragm means.
- 12. An automatic exposure control system for flash photographing comprising:
- (A) a photographic camera including
- (a) a light measuring circuit for measuring object brightness and producing an electric output signal corresponding to the object brightness,
- (b) a first electrical signal forming means for producing an electrical signal corresponding to exposure-determining variable factors including film speed,
- (c) exposure time control circuit means operatively connected with the light measuring circuit and the first electrical means for automatically defining an exposure-determining variable shutter time corresponding to the object brightness and the film speed, the control circuit means having switching means for freezing the shutter time into a given value suitable for flash photography irrespective of the object brightness and the film speed,
- (B) an illuminating device, which emits illuminating light to illuminate an object, said illuminating device including:
- (d) a flash capacitor,
- (e) a flash tube for selectively artificially illuminating an object by means of the flash tube upon discharge of electric energy stored on the flash capacitor,
- (f) light measuring circuit means responsive to an incident reflected light energy originating from the flash tube to produce an electrical output signal indicative of the amount of reflected light energy,
- (g) time integrating circuit means responsive to the output signal of said light measuring circuit means for integrating the latter to produce an illuminating stop signal,
- (h) stopping means for stopping the illumination of the flash tube, the stopping means being operatively connected with the flash tube to stop the illumination in response to the stop signal,
- (i) connecting means operatively connected with the stopping means for operatively coupling the first electrical signal forming means with the time integrating circuit means in flash photography so as to vary the illumination quantity in accordance with the exposure determining film speed so that the exposure determining film speed forms an exposure determining factor for daylight photography and an illumination quantity.
- 13. An automatic exposure control system according to claim 12, wherein the photographic camera further comprises:
- second electrical signal forming means operatively connected with the preselected diaphragm setting means for producing a second electrical signal corresponding to the diaphragm value, the electrical means being connected selectively to the circuit in daylight photography and to the integrating circuit means by means of the connecting means in flash photography.
- 14. An automatic exposure control system according to claim 12, wherein the electrical signal forming means having a variable resistor to be adjusted in accordance with film speed, and an operational amplifier having two inputs, one of which being connected with the variable resistor, and the output of which is operatively connected with the integrating circuit means through the connecting means.
- 15. For use with a flash device having a flash tube for artificially illuminating an object by means of the flash tube upon discharge of electrical energy stored in a flash capacitor, photosensitive means, circuitry electrically connected with the photosensitive means for automatically determining an extent of flash illumination and responsive to a reflected light energy originating from the flash tube and input means connected with the circuitry for introducing into the circuitry at least one of a plurality of exposure determining variable factors such as film speed and diaphragm aperture, a camera comprising:
- (A) a light measuring circuit for measuring an object brightness and producing an electrical output signal corresponding to the object brightness,
- (B) electrical signal forming means for producing an electrical signal corresponding to at least the film speed,
- (C) exposure time control circuit means operatively connected with the light measuring circuit and the electrical signal forming means for automatically defining a shutter speed corresponding to the object brightness and the exposure determining variable factors, the control circuit means having two alternative conditions, one of which is the daylight photographing mode for defining the shutter speed in dependence upon the object brightness and film speed and the other is the flash photographing mode for defining the shutter speed to a predetermined value suitable for flash photography,
- (D) electrical terminal means operatively connected with the electrical signal forming means and being connectable with the input means of the flash device in use therewith for transmitting the electrical signal thereof, so as to vary the illumination extent of the flash device in accordance with at least the exposure determining film speed.
- 16. A camera according to claim 15, wherein the electrical signal forming means has a variable resistor for presetting the film speed.
- 17. A camera according to claim 15, wherein the electrical signal forming means has two variable resistors one for presetting the film speed and the other for presetting another exposure determining variable factor including the diaphragm value.
- 18. A camera according to claim 17, wherein the electrical signal forming means further includes an operational amplifier having two inputs connected with the variables respectively and an output connected with the electrical terminal means for computing the difference between the preset film speed and diaphragm value.
