Claims
- 1. Apparatus, for use with a battery, comprising:a compartment; a flash unit having a self-oscillating charging circuit, said flash unit having near and far battery contacts coupled to said circuit, said battery contacts being disposed in said compartment, said battery contacts and said compartment providing an active battery station configured to receive said battery in electrical series with said circuit via said contacts; a battery grip disposed in a fixed position relative to said near battery contact, said battery grip and said compartment providing a standby battery station having the same dimensions as said active battery station, said standby battery station being spaced from said near contact sufficiently to isolate said standby battery station from said circuit.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein said standby battery station overlaps said active battery station at said far battery contact.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 2 further comprising a battery disposed in said standby battery station, said battery being pivotable from said standby battery station to said active battery station.
- 4. A camera frame assembly for use with a filmstrip and a battery, said camera frame assembly comprising:a film scrolling chamber; a battery compartment joined to said chamber, said compartment having opposed near and far ends; a flash unit joined to said chamber, said flash unit having a self-oscillating charging circuit, said flash unit having near and far battery contacts coupled to said circuit, said contacts each being disposed in said compartment at said near and far ends, respectively, said battery contacts and said compartment providing an active battery station configured to receive said battery in electrical series with said circuit via said contacts, at least one of said battery contacts being biased inwardly to restrain said battery within said active battery station; a battery grip disposed in said compartment exterior to said near battery contact, said battery grip and said compartment providing a standby battery station having the same dimensions as said active battery station, said standby battery station being spaced from said near contact sufficiently to isolate said standby battery station from said circuit, at least one of said far battery contact and said battery grip being biased inwardly to restrain said battery within said standby battery station.
- 5. The camera frame assembly of claim 4 wherein said battery grip is a single abutment and said standby battery station overlaps said active battery station at said far battery contact.
- 6. The camera frame assembly of claim 4 wherein said abutment has a shoulder surface adjoining said active battery station and an end surface facing said far end.
- 7. The camera frame assembly of claim 6 further comprising a battery disposed in said standby battery station, said battery being engaged by said end surface.
- 8. The camera frame assembly of claim 7 wherein said battery disposed in said standby battery station is engaged by said far battery contact.
- 9. The camera frame assembly of claim 6 further comprising a battery disposed in said active battery station, said battery being laterally restrained by said shoulder surface.
- 10. The camera frame assembly of claim 4 wherein said battery grip is non-conductive.
- 11. The camera frame assembly of claim 4 further comprising a battery disposed in said standby battery station, said battery being movable within said compartment, from said standby battery station to said active battery station.
- 12. The camera frame assembly of claim 4 wherein said grip has a shoulder surface adjoining said active battery station and an end surface facing said far end, and said camera frame assembly further comprises a battery movable between said standby battery station and said active battery station, said end surface engaging said battery when said battery is in said active battery station and being spaced from said battery when said battery is in said standby battery station, said shoulder surface laterally restraining said battery when said battery is in said standby battery station and being spaced from said battery when said battery is in said active battery station.
- 13. The camera frame assembly of claim 4 further comprising a cover mounted over said battery compartment, said cover having a ram disposed in said standby battery station.
- 14. The camera frame assembly of claim 13 further comprising a battery disposed in said active battery station.
- 15. The camera frame assembly of claim 14 wherein said grip has a shoulder surface laterally restraining said battery.
- 16. The camera frame assembly of claim 4 wherein said flash unit includes a flash tube and a flash capacitor dischargeable through said flash tube, said flash capacitor being coupled to said self-oscillating charging circuit for charging said flash capacitor.
- 17. The camera frame assembly of claim 16 wherein said flash unit includes an oscillation arresting circuit coupled between said self-oscillating charging circuit and said flash capacitor.
- 18. A camera frame assembly for use with a filmstrip and a battery, said camera frame assembly comprising:a film scrolling chamber; a battery compartment joined to said chamber, said compartment having opposed near and far ends; a flash unit joined to said chamber, said flash unit having a self-oscillating charging circuit, said flash unit having near and far battery contacts coupled to said circuit, said contacts each being disposed in said compartment at said near and far ends, respectively, said battery contacts and said compartment providing an active battery station configured to receive said battery in electrical series with said circuit via said contacts, at least one of said battery contacts being biased inwardly to restrain said battery within said active battery station; an abutment disposed in said compartment exterior to said near battery contact, said abutment, said compartment, and said far battery contact providing a standby battery station having the same dimensions as said active battery station, said standby battery station being spaced from said near contact sufficiently to isolate said standby battery station from said circuit, at least one of said far battery contact and said abutment being biased inwardly to restrain said battery within said standby battery station.
- 19. The camera frame assembly of claim 18 further comprising a battery disposed in said standby battery station, said battery being pivotable within said compartment, from said standby battery station to said active battery station.
- 20. The camera frame assembly of claim 19 wherein said abutment has a shoulder surface adjoining said active battery station and an end surface facing said far end, said battery, in said standby battery station, being engaged by said end surface.
- 21. Apparatus, for use with a battery, comprising:a flash unit having a self-oscillating charging circuit, said flash unit having near and far battery contacts coupled to said circuit, said battery contacts being configured to receive said battery in electrical series with said circuit via said contacts; a battery grip disposed in a fixed position relative to said near battery contact, said battery grip and said far contact being configured to receive said battery in sufficiently spaced relation to said near contact to isolate the battery from said circuit.
- 22. A camera frame assembly for use with a filmstrip and a battery, said camera frame assembly comprising:a film scrolling chamber; a battery compartment joined to said chamber, said compartment having opposed near and far ends; a flash unit joined to said chamber, said flash unit having a self-oscillating charging circuit, said flash unit having near and far battery contacts coupled to said circuit, said contacts each being disposed in said compartment at said near and far ends, respectively, said battery contacts and said compartment being configured to receive said battery in a first position, wherein said battery is in electrical series with said circuit via said contacts, at least one of said battery contacts being biased inwardly to restrain said battery in said first position; a battery grip disposed in said compartment exterior to said near battery contact, said battery grip and said compartment being configured to receive said battery in a second position, wherein said battery is isolated from said circuit, at least one of said far battery contact and said battery grip being biased inwardly to restrain said battery in said second position.
