Claims
- 1. A method of synthesizing compounds having the formula:
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein R4 is H.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a hydroxy group, a halogen, an amino group, a nitro group, a cyano group, a C1-3 alkyl group, a C2-3 alkenyl group, a C2-3 alkynyl group or a C1-3 alkoxy group.
- 4. The method of claim 1, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a C1-3 perhaloalkyl group, a C1-3 aminoalkyl group, a C1-3 alkylamino group or a C1-3 dialkylamino group.
- 5. The method of claim 1, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a methyl group, an amino group, a nitro group, a cyano group, or a hydroxy group.
- 6. The method of claim 1, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a methylamino group, a dimethylamino group, an ethylamino group, a diethylamino group, a hydroxymethyl group, an aminomethyl group, a methylaminomethyl group, or a dimethylaminomethyl group.
- 7. The method of claim 1, wherein R3 is F, an amino group, or a hydroxy group.
- 8. The method of claim 1, wherein R5 is an ethyl group.
- 9. The method of claim 1, wherein R6, R7 and R8 are independently the same or different and are a C1-6 alkyl group, a phenyl group or a —(CH2)NR9 group, wherein N is an integer within the range of 1 through 6 and R9 is a hydroxy group, alkoxy group an amino group, an alkylamino group a dialkylamino group, a halogen atom, a cyano group or a nitro group.
- 10. The method of claim 1, wherein R6, R7 and R8 are methyl groups.
- 11. The method of claim 1, wherein R2 and R3 form a methylenedioxy group, or a 1,2-ethylenedioxy group.
- 12. The method of claim 1, wherein R2 is OH.
- 13. The method of claim 1, wherein R2 is NH2.
- 14. The method of claim 1, wherein R11 is a C1-C10 alkylene group, a C2-C10 alkenylene group or a C2-C10 alkynylene group.
- 15. The method of claim 14, wherein R11 is a C1-C6 alkylene group, a C2-C6 alkenylene group or a C2-C6 alkynylene group.
- 16. The method of claim 14, wherein R11 is (CH2)m wherein m is an integer of 1 to 6.
- 17. The method of claim 1 wherein X is Br or I.
- 18. A compound having the formula:
- 19. The compound of claim 18, wherein R4 is H.
- 20. The compound of claim 18, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a hydroxy group, a halogen, an amino group, a nitro group, a cyano group, a C1-3 alkyl group, a C2-3 alkenyl group, a C2-3 alkynyl group or a C1-3 alkoxy group.
- 21. The compound of claim 18, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a C1-3 perhaloalkyl group, a C1-3 aminoalkyl group, a C1-3 alkylamino group or a C1-3 dialkylamino group.
- 22. The compound of claim 18, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a methyl group, an amino group, a nitro group, a cyano group, or a hydroxy group.
- 23. The compound of claim 18, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a methylamino group, a dimethylamino group, an ethylamino group, a diethylamino group, a hydroxymethyl group, an aminomethyl group, a methylaminomethyl group, or a dimethylaminomethyl group.
- 24. The compound of claim 18, wherein R3 is F, an amino group, or a hydroxy group.
- 25. The compound of claim 18, wherein R5 is an ethyl group.
- 26. The compound of claim 18, wherein R6, R7 and R8 are independently the same or different and are a C1-6 alkyl group, a phenyl group or a —(CH2)NR9 group, wherein N is an integer within the range of 1 through 6 and R9 is a hydroxy group, alkoxy group an amino group, an alkylamino group a dialkylamino group, a halogen atom, a cyano group or a nitro group.
- 27. The compound of claim 18, wherein R6, R7 and R8 are methyl groups.
- 28. The compound of claim 18, wherein R2 and R3 form a methylenedioxy group, or a 1,2-ethylenedioxy group.
- 29. The compound of claim 18, wherein R2 is OH.
- 30. The compound of claim 18, wherein R2 is NH2.
- 31. The compound of claim 18, wherein R11 is a C2-C10 alkylene group, a C2-C10 alkenylene group or a C1-C10 alkynylene group.
- 32. The compound of claim 31, wherein R11 is a C2-C6 alkylene group, a C2-C6 alkenylene group or a C1-C6 alkynylene group.
- 33. The compound of claim 31, wherein R11 is (CH2)m wherein m is an integer of 1 to 6.
- 34. The compound of claim 18, wherein at least one of R1, R2, R3, and R4 is not H.
- 35. The compound of claim 18 wherein R5 is a methyl group, a C3-10 alkyl group, an allyl group, a benzyl group or a propargyl group.
- 36. A compound having the formula:

The compound of claim 36, wherein R6, R7 and R8 are independently the same or different and are a C1-6 alkyl group, a phenyl group or a —(CH2)NR9 group, wherein N is an integer within the range of 1 through 6 and R9 is a hydroxy group, alkoxy group an amino group, an alkylamino group a dialkylamino group, a halogen atom, a cyano group or a nitro group.
- 38. The compound of claim 36, wherein R6, R7 and R8 are methyl groups.
- 39. The compound of claim 36, wherein X is Br or I.
- 40. A compound having the formula:

- 42. The compound of claim 40, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a hydroxy group, a halogen, an amino group, a nitro group, a cyano group, a C1-3 alkyl group, a C2-3 alkenyl group, a C2-3 alkynyl group or a C1-3 alkoxy group.
- 43. The compound of claim 40, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a C1-3 perhaloalkyl group, a C1-3 aminoalkyl group, a C1-3 alkylamino group or a C1-3 dialkylamino group.
- 44. The compound of claim 40, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a methyl group, an amino group, a nitro group, a cyano group, or a hydroxy group.
- 45. The compound of claim 40, wherein R1 and R2 are independently the same or different and are H, a methylamino group, a dimethylamino group, an ethylamino group, a diethylamino group, a hydroxymethyl group, an aminomethyl group, a methylaminomethyl group, or a dimethylaminomethyl group.
- 46. The compound of claim 40, wherein R3 is F, an amino group, or a hydroxy group.
- 47. The compound of claim 40, wherein R5 is an ethyl group.
- 48. The compound of claim 40, wherein R6, R7 and R8 are independently the same or different and are a C1-6 alkyl group, a phenyl group or a —(CH2)NR9 group, wherein N is an integer within the range of 1 through 6 and R9 is a hydroxy group, alkoxy group an amino group, an alkylamino group a dialkylamino group, a halogen atom, a cyano group or a nitro group.
- 49. The compound of claim 40, wherein R6, R7 and R8 are methyl groups.
- 50. The compound of claim 40, wherein R2 and R3 form a methylenedioxy group, or a 1,2-ethylenedioxy group.
- 51. The compound of claim 40, wherein R2 is OH.
- 52. The compound of claim 40, wherein R2 is NH2.
- 53. The compound of claim 40, wherein R11 is a C1-C10 alkylene group, a C2-C10 alkenylene group or a C2-C10 alkynylene group.
- 54. The compound of claim 53, wherein R11 is a C1-C6 alkylene group, a C2-C6 alkenylene group or a C2-C6 alkynylene group.
- 55. The compound of claim 53, wherein R11 is (CH2)m wherein m is an integer of 1 to 6.
- 56. A method of treating a patient for cancer or leukemia, comprising the step of administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of claim 18 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 57. The method of claim 57, wherein the patient is treated for brain cancer, breast cancer or leukemia.
- 58. A method of treating a patient for cancer or leukemia, comprising the step of administering a pharmaceutically effective amount of a compound of claim 41 or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 59. The method of claim 58, wherein the patient is treated for brain cancer, breast cancer or leukemia.
