- 7. The can package set forth in claim 6 wherein said handle comprises spaced slits in said band forming a handle.
- 8. The can package set forth in claim 7 wherein said spaced slits extend generally circumferentially of said band.
- 9. The can package set forth in claim 6 wherein said band comprises a pair of rectangular panels bonded to one another along their short sides and a handle portion interposed between the panels and bonded between the short sides of the pair of panels, one of said panels including an elongated opening providing access to the narrow band to thereby form a handle.
- 10. The can package set forth in claim 6 wherein said band comprises a single panel having end portions in overlapping relation and bonded to one another to define one side of said band, said overlapping portions including peripherally extending slits which define a double layer handle portion that can be grasped for carrying the package.
- 11. The can package set forth in claim 10 wherein said overlapping band portions are bonded to one another along opposite sides of said handle forming portions.
- 12. The can package set forth in claim 6 wherein said band comprises a single rectangular portion having its free ends bonded to one another, at least a portion of the band having spaced slits defining a handle portion.
- 13. The can package set forth in claim 1 wherein said band is made from a strap, end portions of said strap being bonded to one another to define the banding strap and extending outwardly from the strap.
- 14. The can package set forth in claim 13 wherein said overlapping end portions having a transverse finger receiving openings therethrough to define a handle.
- 15. The can package set forth in claim 14 including a handle reinforcing layer of material bonded between said overlapping end portions.
- 16. The can package set forth in claim 13 including a handle having a transverse finger receiving opening bonded between said end portions.
- 17. The can package set forth in claim 1 wherein said integral means comprise openings.
- 18. The can package set forth in claim 19 wherein said integral means comprise openings.
- 19. A can package for a plurality of cans comprising
- a group of cans inside by side relation,
- a flat generally rectangular carrier in the form of a sheet having integral means stretched over the upper ends of the cans such that edge portions of said carrier extend generally axially along the sides of each of the cans on the exterior of said group of cans,
- said axially extending edge portions of said carrier having an exterior surface and an interior surface, said interior surface facing said cans,
- a tubular band of plastic material stretched about the periphery of the group of cans and having one edge extending in overlying relationship to the exterior surface of said axially extending edge portions of said carrier which extend along the sides of each of said cans,
- the width of said band being equal to the height of the carriers,
- said band having said overlying edge thereof bonded to the exterior surface of the axially extending edge portions of the carrier which extend along the sides of each of said cans.
- 20. The can package set forth in claim 29 wherein said band is bonded along parallel sides of said rectangular carrier.
- 21. The can package set forth in claim 30 wherein said carrier has long sides and short sides.
- 22. The can package set forth in claim 29 wherein said band comprises two sheets in side by side relation.
- 23. The can package set forth in claim 19 wherein said group of cans comprises twelve cans.
- 24. The can package set forth in claim 19 wherein said band includes an integral handle forming part of the band.
- 25. The can package set forth in claim 19 wherein said handle comprises spaced slits in said band forming a handle.
