Claims
- 1. A canola plant line designated IMC 01, seeds of which have been deposited as ATCC accession number 40579.
- 2. Progeny of the line of claim 1, said progeny producing seeds having an .alpha.-linolenic acid content of from about 1.7% to about 7% and an erucic acid content of less than about 2%, relative to the total fatty acid content of said seeds.
- 3. The progeny of claim 2, wherein said progeny have an aliphatic and indolyl glucosinolate content of about 12.5 .mu.mole/gm of defatted, air-dried meal as determined by high performance liquid chromatography.
- 4. The progeny of claim 2, wherein said progeny have an aliphatic glucosinolate content of from about 3.7 .mu.mole to about 6.3 .mu.mole/gm of defatted, air-dried meal as determined by high performance liquid chromatography.
- 5. The progeny of claim 2, wherein said progeny have an indolyl glucosinolate content of about 7.2 .mu.mole/gm of defatted, air-dried meal as determined by high performance liquid chromatography.
- 6. A method for producing a plant line, comprising the steps of:
- a) crossing a first plant of a canola plant line designated IMC 01 and having ATCC accession No. 40579, or progeny thereof, with an agronomically elite Brassica plant;
- b) selecting at least one descendant of said cross, said descendant producing seeds having an .alpha.-linolenic acid content from about 1.7% to about 7% and an erucic acid content of less than about 2% relative to the total fatty acid content of said seeds.
- 7. The method of claim 6, wherein said seeds have an aliphatic and indolyl glucosinolate content of about 12.5 .mu.mole/gm of defatted, air-dried meal as determined by high performance liquid chromatography.
- 8. The method of claim 6, wherein said seeds have an aliphatic glucosinolate content of from about 3.7 .mu.mole to about 6.3 .mu.mole/gm of defatted, air-dried meal as determined by high performance liquid chromatography.
- 9. The method of claim 6, wherein said seeds have an indolyl glucosinolate content of about 7.2 .mu.mole/gm of defatted, air-dried meal as determined by high performance liquid chromatography.
