Claims
- 1. A dispenser comprising:
- a hermetically sealed container including a hollow body portion terminating into a threaded neck portion defining an opening sealed with a membrane unitary therewith;
- a cap threadedly secured over the neck portion and provided with a dispensing nozzle;
- a draining spike within the cap for piercing the membrane when the cap is secured over the neck portion so as to provide access to the interior of the body portion, said draining spike being in fluid flow communication with said dispensing nozzle; and
- a flip top closure over said dispensing nozzle and retained on said dispenser by a flexible arm unitary with the flip top closure and including a distal end terminating in a unitary ring which fits around the dispensing nozzle, the unitary ring including a boss and the flip top closure including an inner portion frictionally engaging the boss of the ring when the flip top closure is secured over the dispensing nozzle.
- 2. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein the flexible arm is unitary with the cap.
- 3. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein the flexible arm has a distal end terminating in a unitary ring, and the unitary ring is held in place on the container neck portion by the cap.
- 4. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein the spike comprises an elongated member including a generally cylindrical body portion and a pointed tip portion extending away from the body portion.
- 5. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein a plurality of peripherally spaced fins extend into a draining passageway defined by the draining spike.
- 6. The dispenser of claim 5 wherein the dispensing nozzle includes an inner channel, the cylindrical body portion of said spike being nested within said channel.
- 7. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein the cap includes a dome portion from which said dispensing nozzle extends outwardly, said dome portion defining an inner recess and said dispensing nozzle including an inner channel, said spike comprising an elongated member including a generally cylindrical body portion and a peripheral flange, said cylindrical body portion and said peripheral flange being nested within said channel and said recess respectively.
- 8. The dispenser of claim 7 therein said peripheral flange includes a tapered lateral face and said recess includes a tapered lateral surface engaging said lateral face.
- 9. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein said draining spike is nested within said cap and is made of a material harder than the material of said cap.
- 10. The dispenser of claim 1 wherein said draining spike is unitary with said cap and is made of the same material as said cap.
- 11. A cap suitable for providing access to a hermetically sealed container having an externally threaded throat member sealed by a pierceable membrane, the cap comprising:
- a dome portion provided with an outwardly extending dispensing nozzle and a flip top closure over the dispensing nozzle including a flexible arm having a distal end terminating in a ring which fits around the dispensing nozzle, the ring including a boss and the flip top closure including an inner portion frictionally engaging the boss of the ring when the flip top closure is over the dispensing nozzle;
- a skirt portion unitary with the dome portion and provided with internal threads for engagement with said externally threaded throat member; and
- a draining spike depending inwardly from said dome portion and defining a driving passageway in fluid flow communication with said dispensing nozzle.
- 12. The cap of claim 11 wherein the draining spike comprises an elongated body member including a generally cylindrical body portion that terminates at the distal end thereof into a piercing portion, the piercing portion penetrating the membrane when the cap is threaded onto said throat member.
- 13. The cap of claim 11 wherein said dome portion defines an inner recess and said draining spike is provided with a peripheral flange, said peripheral flange being nested within said recess.
- 14. The cap of claim 13 wherein said peripheral flange includes a tapered lateral face and said recess includes a tapered lateral surface engaging said lateral face.
- 15. The cap of claim 12 wherein the dispensing nozzle includes an inner channel within which the cylindrical body portion of said spike is nested.
- 16. The cap of claim 11 wherein the dome portion defines an inner recess and said dispensing nozzle includes an inner channel, said spike comprising an elongated member including a generally cylindrical body portion and a peripheral flange, said cylindrical body portion and said peripheral flange being nested within said channel and said recess respectively.
- 17. The cap of claim 11 wherein a plurality of peripherally spaced fins extend into a draining passageway defined by the draining spike.
- 18. A flip top assembly for a dispenser including a dispensing nozzle, the flip top closure comprising:
- a ring fitting around the dispensing nozzle and including a boss unitary with the ring;
- a flip top adapted to be removably secured over the dispensing nozzle and including an inner portion frictionally engaging the unitary boss when the flip top is removably secured over the dispensing nozzle; and
- a flexible arm connecting the ring and the flip top.
- 19. The flip top assembly of claim 18 wherein the ring includes a lower boss and an upper boss concentric therewith and having a diameter less than the diameter of the lower boss to define a terraced surface therebetween, the flip top including a skirt having a peripheral edge whereby, when the flip top is removably secured to the dispensing nozzle, the peripheral edge of the skirt of the flip top abuts the terraced surface of the ring and the inner portion of the flip top frictionally engages the upper boss of the ring.
