Claims
- 1. An oxidized carboxymethylmannoglucan or derivative thereof comprising units represented by the following general formula (IV) and/or units represented by the following general formula (V) or salt thereof: ##STR10## wherein R.sup.25, R.sup.26, R.sup.27, R.sup.28, R.sup.29 and R.sup.30 which may be the same or different each represents a hydrogen atom or CH.sub.2 COOH;
- W.sup.1 and W.sup.2 each represent .dbd.O or .dbd.N--R*.sup.4 wherein R represents a residue formed by removing two hydrogen atoms from an amino group of a drug which has an amino group and is represented by the general formula H.sub.2 N--R*.sup.4 ;
- A.sup.1 and A.sup.2 which may be the same or different each represent a group represented by the following formula (VI), (VII), (VIII) or (IX);
- A.sup.3 and A.sup.4 which may be the same or different each represent a group represented by the following formula (VI), (VII), (VIII) or (IX),
- with the proviso that when the molecule consists of units represented by the general formula (IV) alone, not all the A.sup.1 and A.sup.2 in the molecule represent the following formula (VI); ##STR11## wherein X.sup.i1, X.sup.i2, X.sup.i3, X.sup.i4, X.sup.i5, X.sup.i6, X.sup.i7, X.sup.i8 and X.sup.i9 which may be the same or different each represent a hydrogen atom or CH.sub.2 COOH; and
- W.sup.i1, W.sup.i2, W.sup.i3, W.sup.i4, W.sup.i5 and W.sup.i6 which may be the same or different each represent .dbd.O or .dbd.N--R*.sup.4 wherein .dbd.N--R*.sup.4 represent a residue formed by removing two hydrogen atoms from an amino group of a drug which has an amino group and is represented by the general formula H.sub.2 N--R*.sup.4,
- with the proviso that each i of X.sup.i1 to X.sup.i9 and W.sup.i1 to W.sup.i6 in the formulae (VI), (VII), (VIII) and (IX) represents an integer of 1 to 4.
- 2. An oxidized carboxymethylmannoglucan or derivative or salt thereof according to claim 1, which has a molecular weight of 10,000 to 2,000,000.
- 3. An oxidized carboxymethylmannoglucan or derivative or salt thereof according to claim 1 or 2, which has a degree of substitution defined as the number of carboxymethyl groups per saccharide residue of 0.01 to 3.0.
- 4. A process for preparing a carboxymethylmannoglucan or derivative or salt thereof according to any one of claims 1 or 2, comprising the steps for reacting a mannoglucan comprising tetrasaccharide units represented by the formula (II) ##STR12## wherein R.sup.10 represents hydrogen or CH.sub.2 COOH, with a halogenoacetic acid and reacting the resultant reaction product with periodic acid or its salt.
- 5. A process for preparing a carboxymethylmantioglucan or derivative or salt thereof according to claim 3, comprising the steps of reacting a mannoglucan comprising tetrasaccharide units represented by the formula (II) ##STR13## where R.sup.10 represents hydrogen or CH.sub.2 COOH, with a halogenacetic acid and reacting the resultant reaction product with periodic acid or its salt.
- 6. A method for transferring a drug to a tumor in a mammal, comprising the step of administering an oxidized carboxymethylmannoglucan or derivative thereof comprising units represented by the following general formula (IV) and/or units represented by the following general formula (V) or salt thereof: ##STR14## wherein R.sup.25, R.sup.26, R.sup.27, R.sup.28, R.sup.29 and R.sup.30, which may be the same or different, each represents a hydrogen atom or CH.sub.2 COOH;
- W.sup.1 and W.sup.2 each represent .dbd.O or .dbd.N--R*.sup.4, wherein R represents a residue formed by removing two hydrogen atoms from an amino group of a drug which has an amino group and is represented by the general formula H.sub.2 N--R*.sup.4 ;
- A.sup.1 and A.sup.2, which may be the same or different, each represent a group represented by the following formula (VI), (VII), (VIII) or (IX);
- A.sup.3 and A.sup.4.sub.1, which may the same or different, each represent a group represented by the following formula (VI), (VII), (VIII) or (IX),
- with the proviso that when the molecule consists of units represented by the general formula (IV) alone, not all the A.sup.1 and A.sup.2 in the molecule represent the following formula (VI); ##STR15## wherein X.sup.i1, X.sup.i2, X.sup.i3, X.sup.i4, X.sup.i5, X.sup.i6, X.sup.i7, X.sup.i8 and X.sup.i9, which may be the same or different, each represent a hydrogen atom or CH.sub.2 COOH; and
- w.sup.i1, W.sup.i2, W.sup.13, W.sup.i4, W.sup.i5 and W.sup.i6, which may be the same or different, each represent .dbd.O or .dbd.N--R*.sup.4, wherein .dbd.N--R*.sup.4 represents a residue formed by removing two hydrogen atoms from an amino group of a drug which has an amino group and is represented by the general formula H.sub.2 N--R*.sup.4,
- with the proviso that each i of X.sup.i1 to X.sup.i9 and W.sup.i1 to W.sup.i6 in the formulae (VI), (VII), (VIII) and (IX) represents an integer of 1 to 4, ic to said mammal.
