Claims
- 1. A carcass structure for vehicle tires, comprising:at least one carcass ply formed of strip sections, wherein each strip section extends in a substantially U-shaped conformation, and wherein each strip section comprises at least two thread elements longitudinally arranged in parallel to each other and at least partly coated with a layer of raw elastomer material; and a pair of annular reinforcing structures, each engaged close to a respective inner circumferential edge of the at least one carcass ply, wherein the at least one carcass ply comprises: a first series of the strip sections and a second series of the strip sections arranged in a mutually-alternating sequence along a circumferential extension of the carcass structure, wherein each annular reinforcing structure comprises at least one primary portion having an axially-inner side turned toward end flaps of the strip sections of the first series and an axially-outer side turned toward end flaps of the strip sections of the second series.
- 2. The carcass structure of claim 1, wherein each annular reinforcing structure further comprises at least one additional portion disposed against the end flaps of the strip sections of the second series on an opposite side relative to the at least one primary portion of the annular reinforcing structure.
- 3. The carcass structure of claim 1, wherein each strip section of the first series and each strip section of the second series have two side portions substantially extending in a direction of a geometric rotation axis of the carcass structure at mutually-spaced-apart positions in an axial direction, and a crown portion extending at a radially-outer position between the side portions, wherein the crown portions of the strip sections of the first series are arranged in a side-by-side relationship along the circumferential extension of the carcass structure with the crown portions of the strip sections of the second series.
- 4. The carcass structure of claim 3, wherein the side portions of each strip section of the first series are each partly covered with a side portion of at least one adjacent strip section of the second series at a stretch included between a radially-outer edge of the at least one primary portion of the annular reinforcing structures and a transition region between the side portions and the crown portion of the strip sections of the first series.
- 5. The carcass structure of claim 4, wherein the covering of the side portions of each strip section of the first series progressively decreases starting from a maximum value close to the radially-outer edge of the at least one primary portion of each annular reinforcing structure until reaching a null value at the transition region between the side portions and the crown portion of the strip sections of the first series.
- 6. The carcass structure of claim 1, wherein side portions of the strip sections of the first series and of the strip sections of the second series radially converge toward a geometric rotation axis of the carcass structure.
- 7. The carcass structure of claim 1, wherein the strip sections of the first series are disposed according to a circumferential distribution pitch corresponding to a multiple of a width of the strip sections of the first series or the strip sections of the second series are disposed according to a circumferential distribution pitch corresponding to a multiple of a width of the strip sections of the second series.
- 8. The carcass structure of claim 1, wherein each of the strip sections has regions of increased width close to inner circumferential edges of the carcass structure.
- 9. The carcass structure of claim 8, wherein the thread elements included in each of the strip sections are mutually spaced apart at the regions of increased width.
- 10. The carcass structure of claim 1, wherein each of the strip sections has a width included between 3 mm and 15 mm.
- 11. The carcass structure of claim 1, wherein each of the strip sections comprises three to eight thread elements.
- 12. The carcass structure of claim 1, wherein the thread elements are disposed in respective strip sections according to a mutual distance between centers not lower than 1.5 times a diameter of the thread elements.
- 13. The carcass structure of claim 1, wherein the at least one primary portion of each annular reinforcing structure comprises:a first circumferentially-inextensible annular insert substantially in a form of an annulus disposed coaxially with the carcass structure and close to an inner circumferential edge of the at least one carcass ply, wherein the first annular insert is made up of at least one elongated element extending in concentric coils; and a filling body of elastomer material having a side joined to the first annular insert for anchoring.
- 14. The carcass structure of claim 13, wherein each annular reinforcing structure further comprises at least one second circumferentially-inextensible annular insert substantially in a form of an annulus disposed coaxially with the carcass structure at a position axially in side-by-side relationship with the filling body and laterally opposite to the first annular insert, wherein the at least one second annular insert is made up of at least one elongated element extending in concentric coils.
- 15. The carcass structure of claim 14, wherein the at least one second annular insert is part of an additional portion of each annular reinforcing structure disposed against the end flaps of the strip sections of the second series on an opposite side relative to the at least one primary portion of each annular reinforcing structure.
- 16. The carcass structure of claim 14, wherein the at least one second annular insert has a radial extension greater than a radial extension of the first annular insert.
- 17. The carcass structure of claim 13, wherein the filling body of elastomer material has a hardness included between 48° and 55° Shore D at 23° C.
- 18. A tire for a vehicle wheel, comprising:a carcass structure; wherein the carcass structure comprises: at least one carcass ply formed of strip sections, wherein each strip section extends in a substantially U-shaped conformation, and wherein each strip section comprises at least two thread elements longitudinally arranged in parallel to each other and at least partly coated with a layer of raw elastomer material; and a pair of annular reinforcing structures, each engaged close to a respective inner circumferential edge of at least one carcass ply, wherein the ar least one carcass ply comprises: a first series of the strip sections and a second series of the strip sections arranged in a mutually-alternating sequence along a circumferential extension of the carcass structure, wherein each annular reinforcing structure comprises at least one primary portion having an axially-inner side turned toward end flaps of the strip sections of the second series.
- 19. The tire of claim 18, wherein each annular reinforcing structure further comprises at least one additional portion disposed against the end flaps of the strip sections of the second series on an opposite side relative to the at least one primary portion of the annular reinforcing structure.
- 20. The tire of claim 18, wherein each strip section of the first series and each strip section of the second series have two side portions substantially extending in a direction of a geometric rotation axis of the carcass structure at mutually-spaced-apart positions in an axial direction, and a crown portion extending at a radially-outer position between the side portions, wherein the crown portions of the strip sections of the first series are arranged in a side-by-side relationship along the circumferential extension of the carcass structure with the crown portions of the strip sections of the second series.
- 21. The tire of claim 20, wherein the side portions of each strip section of the first series are each partly covered with a side portion of at least one adjacent strip section of the second series at a stretch included between a radially-outer edge of the at least one primary portion of the annular reinforcing structures and a transition region between the side portions and the crown portion of the strip sections of the first series.
- 22. The tire of claim 21, wherein the covering of the side portions of each strip section of the first series progressively decreases starting from a maximum value close to the radially-outer edge of the at least one primary portion of each annular reinforcing structure until reaching a null value at the transition region between the side portions and the crown portion of the strip sections of the first series.
- 23. The tire of claim 18, wherein side portions of the strip sections of the first series and of the strip sections of the second series radially converge toward a geometric rotation axis of the carcass structure.
- 24. The tire of claim 18, wherein the strip of the first series are disposed according to a circumferential distribution pitch corresponding to a multiple of a width of the strip sections of the first series or the strip sections of the second series are disposed according to a circumferential distribution pitch corresponding to a multiple of a width of the strip sections of the second series.
- 25. The tire of claim 18, wherein each of the strip sections has regions of increased width close to inner circumferential edges of the carcass structure.
- 26. The tire of claim 25, wherein the thread elements included in each of the strip sections are mutually spaced apart at the regions of increased width.
- 27. The tire of claim 18, wherein each of the strip sections has a width included between 3 mm and 15 mm.
- 28. The tire of claim 18, wherein each of the strip sections comprises three to eight thread elements.
- 29. The tire of claim 18, wherein the thread elements are disposed in respective strip sections according to a mutual distance between centers not lower than 1.5 times a diameter of the thread elements.
- 30. The tire of claim 18, wherein the at least one primary portion of each annular reinforcing structure comprises:a first circumferentially-inextensible annular insert substantially in a form of an annulus disposed coaxially with the carcass structure and close to an inner circumferential edge of the at least one carcass ply, wherein the first annular insert is made up of at least one elongated element extending in concentric coils; and a filling body of elastomer material having a side joined to the first annular insert for anchoring.
- 31. The tire of claim 30, wherein each annular reinforcing structure further comprises at least one second circumferentially-inextensible insert substantially in a form of an annulus disposed coaxially with the carcass structure at a position axially in side-by-side relationship with the filling body and laterally opposite to the first annular insert, wherein the at least one second annular insert is made up of at least one elongated element extending in concentric coils.
- 32. The tire of claim 31, wherein the at least one second annular insert is part of an additional portion of each annular reinforcing structure disposed against the end flaps of the strip sections of the second series on an opposite side relative to the at least one primary portion of each annular reinforcing structure.
- 33. The tire of claim 31, wherein the at least one second annular insert has a radial extension greater than a radial extension of the first annular insert.
- 34. The tire of claim 30, wherein the filling body of elastomer material has a hardness included between 48° and 55° Shore D at 23° C.
