Claims
- 1. A carotenoid formulation, which is in the form of an emulsion or a dry powder produced from the emulsion, and which formulation comprises from 0.1 to 40% by weight of a mixture comprising1 part by weight of β-carotene, 0.05 to 20 parts by weight of lycopene, and 0.05 to 20 parts by weight of lutein, and which formulation has a phosphorus content of less than 2% of the total weight of the mixture of β-carotene, lycopene and lutein.
- 2. The carotenoid formulation defined in claim 1, wherein the phosphorus content of the formulation is less than 0.02% of the total weight of the mixture of β-carotene, lycopene and lutein.
- 3. The carotenoid formulation defined in claim 1, wherein the β-carotene and the lycopene are synthetically prepared.
- 4. The carotenoid formulation defined in claim 1, wherein the mixture comprising1 part by weight of β-carotene, 0.3 to 1.5 parts by weight of lycopene, and 0.1 to 0.5 parts by weight of lutein.
- 5. The carotenoid formulation defined in claim 1, wherein the individual constituents used for the mixture have a purity of greater than 75% by weight.
- 6. The carotenoid formulation defined in claim 1, wherein the mixture further comprises 0.01 to 40% by weight of one or more active substances.
- 7. A food supplement, animal feed, human food product or pharmaceutical or cosmetic composition comprising the carotenoid formulation defined in claim 1.
