Claims
- 1. A carrier bar assembly comprising:
- at least first and second adjacent carrier bars, each of the first and second carrier bars including an upper surface including at least one scalloped edge, the scalloped edge of the first carrier bar being cooperable with the scalloped edge of the second carrier bar to form a substantially continuous surface;
- a plurality of pockets formed in said upper surface, each of said pockets being configured to receive a pellet shaped article; and
- a surface provided for each of said pockets, said surface positioning each said pellet shaped article to a reference position within each of said pockets.
- 2. The carrier bar assembly according to claim 1, further comprising a slit-like slot within each of the pockets that allows a knockout bar to extend into each of the pockets to forcibly eject the pellet shaped article from each of the pockets.
- 3. The carrier bar assembly according to claim 1, wherein at least one of a leading edge and a trailing edge of each of said pockets includes a tapered marginal portion.
- 4. The carrier bar assembly according to claim 1, wherein each said surface includes a contoured base that progresses downwardly to a floor position adjacent to a foot portion of each of said pockets.
- 5. The carrier bar assembly according to claim 1, wherein each said surface comprises a contoured base that is shaped to direct the pellet shaped article to a sector-shaped portion of each of said pockets.
- 6. A conveyor system operatively associated with a feed hopper having a plurality of pellet shaped articles, said conveyor system comprising:
- a plurality of sprockets; and
- an endless conveyor trained about and driven by said plurality of sprockets, said endless conveyor including at least two carrier bars each having an upper surface defining a plurality of pockets, each of said pockets being configured to receive one of said pellet shaped articles, each of said pockets positioning said pellet shaped articles received from said hopper to a reference position within the pockets, the at least two carrier bars having adjacent scalloped edges that mate to form a substantially continuous conveying surface.
- 7. The conveyor system according to claim 6, wherein each of said pockets includes a configured surface that includes a tapered marginal portion and a configured base, the tapered marginal portion operating to facilitate transfer of the pellet shaped articles from the feed hopper to the pockets as well as providing a smooth surface that reduces damage to the pellet shaped articles as the pellet shaped articles enter and leave the pockets.
- 8. The conveyer system according to claim 7, further comprising a sector shaped portion that urges the pellet shaped articles along a configured base of each of the pockets toward a foot of the pockets so that the pellet shaped articles rest upon a generally circular bed of the configured base.
- 9. The conveyor system according to claim 6, wherein each of said pockets is sector shaped.
- 10. The conveyor system according to claim 9, wherein each said sector shaped pocket includes an enlarged portion to receive said pellet shaped articles from said feed hopper.
- 11. The conveyor system according to claim 10, wherein said enlarged portion forms a trailing portion of said pockets as said pockets pass beneath the feed hopper.
- 12. The conveyor system according to claim 10, wherein said enlarged portion forms a leading portion of said pockets as the pockets pass beneath the feed hopper.
- 13. The conveyor system according to claim 10, wherein each of the pockets has a contoured base that progresses downwardly to a floor positioned adjacent to foot portions of each of said pockets.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 13, wherein said contoured base is shaped to direct said pellet shaped articles to the foot portions of the pockets.
- 15. The conveyor system according to claim 6, wherein said pockets are configured pockets that are hemispherically shaped.
- 16. The conveyor system according to claim 6, wherein said pockets are staggered relative to one another.
- 17. The conveyor system according to claim 16, wherein the staggered pockets are interlaced.
- 18. The conveyor system according to claim 16, wherein the scalloped edges of the adjacent carrier bars permit limited penetration of the staggered pockets of the adjacent carrier bars relative to one another.
- 19. A carrier bar assembly comprising:
- a first carrier bar and a second carrier bar, each of said first and second carrier bars including:
- a main body including an upper surface, and
- a plurality of pockets formed in the upper surface, each of the pockets being configured to receive a pellet shaped article;
- wherein the pockets of the first carrier bar are staggered with respect to adjacent pockets of the second carrier bar, and
- wherein the pockets of the first carrier bar are interlaced with the adjacent pockets of the second carrier bar.
- 20. The carrier bar system according to claim 19, wherein the first and second carrier bars include scalloped edges.
- 21. A method of making a carrier bar assembly comprising:
- providing at least first and second adjacent carrier bars;
- providing each of the first and second carrier bars with an upper surface including at least one scalloped edge, the scalloped edge of the first carrier bar being cooperable with the scalloped edge of second carrier bar to form a substantially continuous surface;
- providing a plurality of pockets formed in said upper surface, each of said pockets being configured to receive a pellet shaped article; and
- providing a surface provided for each of said pockets, said surface positioning each said pellet shaped article to a reference position within each of said pockets.
- 22. A method of making a carrier bar assembly comprising:
- providing a first carrier bar and a second carrier bar, each of said first and second carrier bars including:
- a main body including an upper surface, and
- a plurality of pockets formed in the upper surface, each of the pockets being configured to receive a pellet shaped article;
- staggering the pockets of the first carrier bar with respect to adjacent pockets of the second carrier bar; and
- interlacing the pockets of the first carrier bar with respect to the adjacent pockets of the second carrier bar.
