Claims
- 1. A file cabinet, comprising in combination:
a base; a central carrousel assembly extending from said base; and a plurality of file support assemblies coupled to said central carrousel assembly and rotatable between an extended position and a closed position relative to said central carrousel assembly.
- 2. The file cabinet as defined in claim 1, further including a container assembly detachably coupled to said file support assembly.
- 3. The file cabinet as defined in claim 1, wherein said base includes:
a hub; and a radially extending support attached to said hub.
- 4. The file cabinet as defined in claim 1, wherein said central carrousel assembly includes:
at least one main support tube; and at least one fastener for coupling at least one main support tube to said base.
- 5. The file cabinet as defined in claim 1, wherein said central carrousel assembly includes:
main support tube; a plurality of spaced apart spider members extending radially from said main support tube; and bearing members between said main support tube and said base.
- 6. The file cabinet as defined in claim 1, wherein each of said plurality of file support assemblies include:
a pivot tube having a first end and a second end; a hanger arm intermediate said first and second end of said file support tube and extending perpendicular thereto; and a bearing assembly in said first and second ends of said pivot tube.
- 7. The file cabinet as defined in claim 2, wherein said container includes a container rim configured to be suspended on one of said file support assemblies.
- 8. The file cabinet as defined in claim 6, wherein each of said plurality of file support assemblies includes a mechanism for preventing said pivot tube from rotating freely between said extended position and said closed position.
- 9. The file cabinet as defined in claim 7, wherein said container rim includes:
a plurality of walls interconnected together to form one recess configured to receive a portion of said file support assembly therein and suspend said container assembly.
- 10. The file cabinet as defined in claim 7, wherein said container assembly includes a cover depending from said rim to conceal an interior of said container assembly.
- 11. The file cabinet as defined in claim 7, wherein said container assembly includes:
a box assembly having a plurality of side panels; a corner member interconnecting adjacent ones of said plurality of side panels; and a frame attached to an open end of said box assembly.
- 12. The file cabinet as defined in claim 5, further including at least one tension member interconnecting an upper end of said main support tube to said box.
- 13. A carrousel file cabinet, comprising in combination:
a base; a central carrousel assembly extending upright from said base; and a plurality of file support assemblies coupled to said central carrousel assembly, each rotatable between a stowed position and an extended position about an axis substantially parallel to said central carrousel assembly.
- 14. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 13, further comprising a file container adapted to be detachably suspended from any one of said plurality of file support assemblies.
- 15. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 13, wherein said base includes a hub having at least one radially extending member for providing vertical support for the carrousel file cabinet.
- 16. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 13, wherein said central carrousel assembly includes:
at least one main support tube; a plurality of spiders spaced from each other along said at least one main support tube; and a plurality of bearing members interconnecting said main support tube to said base to permit said plurality of spiders and said at least one main support tube to rotate about an axis defined by said at least one main support.
- 17. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 13, wherein each of said plurality of file support assemblies includes:
at least one pivot tube having a first and a second end; a bearing member disposed in said first end and said second ends of said pivot tube, each bearing member attached to one of said plurality of spiders; a pivot arm extending from said at least one pivot tube; and a member cooperating with said hanger arm to control a rotation angle of each file support assembly between said stowed position and said extended position.
- 18. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 14, wherein said file container includes:
a rim adapted to be detachably coupled to one of said plurality of file support assemblies; a box assembly depending from said rim; and a top attached to an upper surface of said rim.
- 19. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 13, wherein said central carrousel assembly includes:
at least one tubular member having a first end attached to said base; and a plurality of bearings interconnecting said at least one tubular member to said base and permit said plurality of spiders to rotate about an axis defined by said at least one tubular member.
- 20. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 19, wherein each of said plurality of file support assemblies includes:
a cylindrical file support member having first and second ends; a bearing member disposed in each of said first and second ends, each bearing member attached to one of said plurality of spiders; a hanger arm extending from said cylindrical file support member; and a member internal said cylindrical file support member and cooperating with an end of said hanger arm to control a rotation angle of said hanger arm and said cylindrical support member about said axis between said stowed position and said extended position.
- 21. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 20, wherein said file container includes:
a container rim formed from a plurality of contoured walls; a plurality of legs pivotally coupled to said container rim and movable between an extended position and a position retracted toward an interior of said container rim; and a bottom panel slidably received along said plurality of legs and configured to nest against a lower edge of said container rim.
- 22. The carrousel file cabinet as defined in claim 13, further comprising a plurality of tiers of said central carrousel assemblies, stacked upon one another and coupled to said base.
- 23. A file cabinet kit, comprising in combination:
a base; at least one support tube at one end of base; a plurality of spiders to be mounted in spaced relationship on said support tube, each spider having a plurality of radiating arms; a plurality of file support assemblies configured to interconnect respective arms of said spaced apart spiders to permit each file support assembly to rotate about an axis parallel to said support tube, and between a retracted position and an extended position; and at least one file container adapted to be detachably suspended on one of said plurality of file supports.
- 24. A container configured to be suspended on a file hanger, comprising in combination:
a box assembly having a bottom panel connected to a plurality of side panels; and a frame connected to an upper edge of said plurality of side panels in snap fit engagement, said frame having at least one recess adapted to receive the file hanger and suspend the container therefrom.
- 25. The container as defined in claim 24, further comprising a corner member for interconnecting adjacent ones of said plurality of side panels.
- 26. The container as defined in claim 24, further comprising a top to be received in sliding engagement on an upper surface of said frame.
- 27. The container as defined in claim 26, further comprising a lock assembly disposed in said top and selectively engaging said frame.
- 28. A method for manufacturing a carrousel file assembly, comprising the steps of:
providing at least one main support member; attaching a spider to opposite ends of said main support tube; providing friction reducing members in each end of said main support tube; interconnecting said friction reducing members to a base assembly such that said main support tube rotates about said friction reducing members relative to said base assembly; and interconnecting said spiders disposed at opposite ends of said main support member with a plurality of file support assemblies, each configured to support at least detachable containers.
- 29. A method for manufacturing a container to be suspended from a rail of a file support assembly, comprising the steps of:
forming a box assembly having a bottom panel and a plurality of side panels; forming a frame having a plurality of detents extending from a bottom wall, and at least one wall having a channel to receive a portion of the file support assembly rail therein; and attaching said bottom wall of said frame to an upper edge of said plurality of side panels in snap fit engagement.
- 30. The method as defined in claim 29, wherein the step of forming said box assembly includes:
cutting said bottom panel and said plurality of side panels from a sheet of material wherein said side panels are integrally connected to said bottom panel; forming a plurality of holes in said plurality of side panels proximate an upper edge thereof; and bending said plurality of side panels at predetermined locations such that said side panels extend substantially upright from said bottom panel.
- 31. The method as defined in claim 29, wherein the step of attaching said frame includes the steps of snapping said detents extending from said bottom wall of said frame into corresponding ones of said plurality of holes formed in said sheet of material such that said frame is rigidly fastened to said plurality of side panels.
- 32. The method as defined in claim 29, wherein the step of forming said box assembly further includes the steps on interconnecting adjacent ones of said plurality of side panels with a corner member prior to attaching said frame.
- 33. The method as defined in claim 29, further including the steps of attaching a top to said frame to provide a means for closing said container.
- 34. A filing system, comprising in combination:
at least one stationary regional filing hub assembly for providing temporary storage for file containers away from a main filing room; a mobile satellite filing assembly for temporarily storing said file containers and moving said file containers between a first and a second location; and a workstation filing assembly for temporarily receiving and storing said file container at a location remote from said stationary regional filing hub.
- 35. The filing system as defined in claim 34, wherein said satellite filing assembly also provides ancillary filing at said location remote from said stationary regional filing hub.
- 36. The filing system as defined in claim 34, wherein each of said regional, satellite and workstation filing assemblies are adapted to interchangeably receive one of a plurality of file containers.
- 37. The filing system as defined in claim 34, wherein each of said regional, satellite and workstation filing assemblies include at least one pivotal arm for receiving said file container thereon, and swinging said file container between a stowed position and an extended position.
