Claims
- 1. A cartridge including a housing having an opening for storing an endless dye-carrying ribbon in several locations in said housing, and for operatively withdrawing successive portions therefrom, said portions being arranged to be advanced in a predetermined direction from a first location to a fourth location downstream of said location, comprising in combination:
- ribbon conduit means located at a second location downstream of said first location for returning and guiding the successive ribbon portions into said housing,
- a single unitary resilient stationary member, secured inside said housing,
- a single substantially rigid driven member arranged in said housing, and including two outer parts, at least one of said outer parts having a set of teeth along the periphery of said driven member, said teeth in cooperation with said stationary member engaging successive portions of said ribbon, a groove being defined between said outer parts,
- said driven member including surface discontinuities, and being adapted to be engaged by drive means insertable through said opening so as to be advanced in said predetermined directions,
- said members being located at a third location downstream of said second location and disposed between said second and fourth locations, said stationary member resiliently pressing said ribbon into engagement with said teeth, and
- a separator extending into said groove to aid in separating the ribbon from the teeth in the event that said ribbon should continue adhering to said teeth and therefore entered into said fourth location.
- 2. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1, wherein said surface discontinuities are included on one side of one of said outer parts.
- 3. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1, wherein said driven member is adapted to be operated by said drive means step-wise unidirectionally.
- 4. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1, wherein said driven member is rotatable about an axis, and is adapted to be engaged by said drive means intermittently.
- 5. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1 ,wherein said surface discontinuities include toothed means adapted to be engaged by said drive means.
- 6. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1, wherein said surface discontinuities are accessible from the exterior of said housing,
- said opening being adapted to receive therethrough drive means of a printing machine for drivingly engaging said surface discontinuities, thereby driving said driven member.
- 7. A cartridge including a housing having an opening for storing an endless dye-carrying ribbon in several locations in said housing, and for operatively withdrawing successive portions therefrom, said portions being arranged to be advanced in a predetermined direction from a first location to a fourth location downstream of said first location, comprising in combination:
- ribbon conduit means located at a second location downstream of said first location or returning and guiding the successive ribbon portions into said housing,
- a single unitary resilient stationary member, secured inside said housing,
- a single substantially rigid driven member arranged in said housing, and including two outer parts, at least one of said outer parts having a set of teeth along the periphery of said driven member, said teeth in cooperation with said stationary member engaging successive portions of said ribbon, a groove being defined between said outer parts,
- said driven member including surface discontinuities, and being adapted to be engaged by drive means insertable through said opening so as to be advanced in said predetermined direction,
- said members being located at a third location downstream of said second location and disposed between said second and fourth locations, said stationary member resiliently pressing said ribbon into engagement with said teeth.
- 8. A cartridge as claimed in claim 7, wherein said surface discontinuities are included on one side of one of said outer parts.
- 9. A cartridge as claimed in claim 7, wherein said driven member is adapted to be operated by said driven means stepwise unidirectionally.
- 10. A cartridge as claimed in claim 7, wherein said driven member is rotatable about an axis, and is adapted to be engaged by said drive means intermittently.
- 11. A cartridge as claimed in claim 7, wherein said surface discontinuites include toothed means adapted to be engaged by said drive means.
- 12. A cartridge as claimed in claim 7, wherein said surface discontinuities are accessible from the exterior of said housing,
- said opening being adapted to receive therethrough drive means of a printing machine for drivingly engaging said surface discontinuities, thereby driving said driven member.
- 13. A cartridge including a housing for storing an endless dye-carrying ribbon in several locations in said housing, and for operatively withdrawing successive portions thereform, said portions being arranged to be advanced free from any ribbon movement retarding means disposed in said housing in a predetermined direction from a first location to a fourth location downstream of said first location, comprising in combination:
- ribbon conduit means located at a second location downstream of said first location for returning and guiding the successive ribbon portions into said housing,
- a single unitary resilient stationary member, secured inside said housing,
- a single subtantially rigid driven member arranged in said housing operable to be advanced in said predetermined direction, and including two outer parts, at least one of said outer parts having a set of teeth along the periphery of said driven member, said teeth in cooperation with said stationary member engaging successive portions of said ribbon, a groove being defined between said outer parts,
- said members being located at a third location downstream of said second location and disposed between said second and fourth locations, said stationary member resiliently pressing said ribbon into engagement with said teeth, and
- a separator extending into said groove to aid in separating the ribbon from the teeth in the event that said ribbon continued adhering to said teeth and therefore entered into said fourth location.
