Claims
- 1. A method of erecting a case having opposed front and rear panels and opposed side panels, comprising the steps of:
- a. folding said front and rear panels inwardly to a generally horizontal position;
- b. bending a selected one of said side panels inwardly to a position beneath and in underlying relationship to said folded front and rear panels;
- c. applying an adhesive to the bottoms of said bent side panel;
- d. folding the other side panel to a generally horizontal position underlying the bottom side of said bent side panel; and
- e. upwardly urging the bottommost side panel while simultaneously applying a downward force directed upon the upper surfaces of said front and rear panels and said bent panel.
- 2. An apparatus for erecting a case having opposed front and rear panels and opposed side panels, comprising:
- a. means for folding said front and rear panels inwardly to a generally horizontal position;
- b. means for bending a selected one of said side panels inwardly to a position beneath and in underlying relationship to said folded front and rear panels;
- c. means for applying an adhesive to the bottom of said bent side panel;
- d. means for folding the other side panel to a generally horizontal position underlying the bottom side of said bent side panel;
- e. means for upwardly urging the bottommost side panel;
- f. means for applying a force downwardly upon the upper surfaces of said front and rear panels and said bent panels; and
- g. means for simultaneously moving said urging means and said force applying means in a converging relationship and then in a diverging relationship.
- 3. In a case erecting machine apparatus for pressing two overlaying bottom panels of a case together for adherence, said apparatus comprising an anvil; means for urging a case onto said anvil with two case panels overlaying one another in closely spaced mutual relation; a mandrel detailed in configuration to descend into the case into pressing abutment with at least one of the case panels; and means for reciprocally moving both said mandrel and said anvil towards and away from one another in pressing the overlaying panels together and wherein said moving means includes a cam and a set of rollers rotatably mounted to said anvil in rolling abutment with said cam.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein said moving means further includes a bellcrank coupled with said mandrel and with said cam.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 3 in combination with means for squaring the sides of a case, said squaring means comprising stop means laterally disposed to the direction of travel of said case through said apparatus and operative to engage the leading end of said case when said case is on said anvil and two opposed roller means positioned forwardly of said stop means and pivotally mounted to move outwardly from a rest position in the path of travel of said case as said case passes between said roller means and back to said rest position when said case leading end engages said stop means so that each of said roller means is contacting each side of the trailing edge of said case to urge said case towards said stop.
