Claims
- 1. An automated banking machine apparatus, including
a display module,
wherein the display module includes a display screen, at least one sensor device,
wherein the at least one sensor device is operative to sense at least one sequence including a plurality of colors displayed by the display screen, at least one cash dispenser, at least one controller,
wherein the at least one controller is in operative connection with the at least one cash dispenser, display module and the at least one sensor device, wherein the at least one controller is operative to instruct the display module to display the at least one sequence, wherein the at least one controller is operative to determine whether the display screen displayed the at least one sequence, wherein the at least one controller is operative to generate at least one signal responsive to the display module failing to display the at least one sequence.
- 2. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the display screen includes a display screen area having a first size, wherein the display screen area includes display screen test area having a second size, wherein the second size is smaller than the first size, wherein the at least one controller is operative to instruct the display module to display the at least one sequence in the display screen test area.
- 3. The apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the at least one sensor device is operative to sense the at least one sequence displayed in the display screen test area.
- 4. The apparatus according to claim 3 wherein the at least one sensor device is adjacent to and exterior of the display screen test area.
- 5. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the at least one controller is operative to repeatedly instruct the display module to display the at least one sequence, wherein the at least one sensor device is operative to repeatedly sense the at least one sequence displayed by the display screen, and wherein the at least one controller is operative to repeatedly determine whether the display screen displayed the at least one sequence.
- 6. The apparatus according to claim 1 wherein the at least one dispenser is operative to dispense currency from the apparatus to users thereof, and wherein the at least one controller is operative to instruct the display module to display the at least one sequence, wherein the at least one sequence includes a predetermined hue sequence including at least three different colors.
- 7. The apparatus according to claim 6 wherein the at least one sequence includes at least one pattern.
- 8. The apparatus according to claim 7 wherein the at least one geometric pattern comprises a changing pattern.
- 9. The apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the display screen includes at least two test areas disposed from one another on the display screen, wherein at the least one sequence is displayed in each of the at least two test areas.
- 10. The apparatus according to claim 2 and further comprising at least one light directing device adapted to convey light from the test area to at least one sensor.
- 11. The apparatus according to claim 10 wherein the at least one light directing device comprises a mirror.
- 12. The apparatus according to claim 10 wherein the at least one light directing device comprises a fiberoptic material.
- 13. The apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the display screen comprises a touch screen and wherein the test area extends where the touch screen is being touched by a user.
- 14. The apparatus according to claim 2 and further comprising an ambient light sensor and at least one light source adapted to illuminate the display screen, wherein the at least one ambient light sensor and at least one light source are in operative connection with the at least one controller, and wherein the at least one controller is operative to adjust intensity of the at least one light source responsive to ambient light sensed by the at least one ambient light sensor.
- 15. The apparatus according to claim 14 wherein the at least one light source includes a light adapted to backlight the display.
- 16. The apparatus according to claim 14 wherein the at least one controller is operative to test the at least one light source including causing a change in illumination level of the at least one light source, and sensing the change through the at least one sensor device.
- 17. The apparatus according to claim 16 wherein the controller is operative to test the at least one light source by causing the at least one light source to output maximum illumination.
- 18. The apparatus according to claim 17 wherein the controller is operative to compare illumination sensed to at least one value indicative of a need to replace the at least one light source.
- 19. The apparatus according to claim 18 wherein the at least one controller is operative to cause the apparatus to generate at least one message to a remote servicer responsive to determining the need to replace the at least one light source.
- 20. The apparatus according to claim 16 wherein the at least one sensing device is positioned to sense light output by the at least one light source.
- 21. The apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the display module comprises a plurality of layers and wherein a respective sensor device is adapted to sense an output through the respective layer.
- 22. The apparatus according to claim 2 wherein the apparatus comprises a plurality of transaction function devices and wherein the at least one sequence is produced responsive to at least one condition associated with at least one transaction function device other than the display.
- 23. The apparatus according to claim 22 wherein the at least one sequence is produced responsive to conditions of a plurality of transaction function devices.
- 24. The apparatus according to claim 22 wherein the at least one sequence is produced responsive to communication with at least one remote system.
- 25. An automated banking machine apparatus comprising:
a user interface, including at least one input device and at least one output device, the at least one output device including a display; at least one cash dispenser; at least one controller; at least one display sensor, wherein the at least one display sensor senses display outputs;
wherein the at least one controller is in operative connection with the display and the at least one display sensor; wherein the at least one controller is operative to generate signals adapted to cause the display to output at least one sequence in a test area of the display, wherein the sequence comprises a plurality of colors, and wherein the at least one display sensor is adapted to sense outputs in the at least one test area of the display, and wherein the at least one controller is operative to analyze signals from the at least one display sensor responsive to outputs in the at least one test area.
- 26. The apparatus according to claim 25 wherein the at least one controller is operative to determine if the outputs in the at least one test area correspond to the at least one sequence.
- 27. The apparatus according to claim 26 wherein the at least one controller is operative to determine if the outputs in the at least one test area correspond to at least three colors.
- 28. The apparatus according to claim 27 wherein the ATM includes a fascia and wherein at least one display sensor underlies the fascia.
- 29. The apparatus according to claim 27 and further comprising at least one light source adapted to backlight the display, and wherein the at least one light source is in operative connection with the at least one controller, and wherein the at least one controller is operative to cause changes in output by the at least one light source.
- 30. The apparatus according to claim 29 and further comprising at least one ambient light sensor in operative connection with the at least one controller, and wherein the at least one controller is operative to cause a change in output of the at least one light source responsive to changes in light sensed by the at least one ambient light source.
- 31. The apparatus according to claim 30 wherein at least one ambient light sensor is disposed in overlying relation of at least one display sensor.
- 32. The apparatus according to claim 29 wherein the at least one controller is operative to test the at least one light source by directing the at least one light source to output an intensity, and to sense output of the at least one light source with the at least one display sensor, and to determine responsive to the at least one light source output responsive to the directed intensity, whether the at least one light source requires replacement.
- 33. The apparatus according to claim 32 wherein testing the at least one light source includes the controller directing the at least one light source to produce maximum light output.
- 34. The apparatus according to claim 32 wherein the at least one controller is operative responsive to determining the at least one light source requires replacement, to cause a message to be sent to a remote servicer.
- 35. The apparatus according to claim 26 wherein the controller is operative responsive to determining that the outputs in the test area do not correspond to the at least one sequence to cause a message to be sent to a remote servicer.
- 36. The apparatus according to claim 26 wherein the at least one sequence comprises a changing pattern.
- 37. The apparatus according to claim 36 wherein the at least one sequence comprises a moving pattern.
- 38. The apparatus according to claim 26 wherein the at least one display sensor is operative to sense display outputs through a mirror.
- 39. The apparatus according to claim 26 wherein the at least one display sensor is operative to sense display outputs through at least one light directing device.
- 40. The apparatus according to claim 39 wherein the at least one light directing device comprises a fiberoptic strand.
- 41. The apparatus according to claim 40 wherein the display is in operative connection with a touch screen, and wherein at least one test area underlies an area being touched by a user.
- 42. The apparatus according to claim 25 wherein the display is in operative connection with a touch screen, and wherein at least one test area underlies an area being touched by a user.
- 43. The apparatus according to claim 27 and further comprising a plurality of transaction function devices, and wherein the at least one controller is operative to vary the sequence responsive to a condition of at least one transaction function device other than the display.
