Claims
- 1. A cassette device for an apparatus for sampling blood from a patient, comprising:
(a) at least one test cartridge having a case and a lancet, the lancet having a tip and being housed in the case, wherein the lancet can be driven to extend the tip outside the case to lance the skin of a patient to yield blood for collection for later analysis; and (b) container for storing a plurality of test cartridges, the container having a compartment including said at least one test cartridge, wherein one of said at least one test cartridge from the cassette can be loaded onto an actuator that can drive the lancet in said one test cartridge to lance the skin.
- 1. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the lancet is operatively connected to the case such that the lancet can be driven to extend the tip outside the case for lancing the skin of the patient to yield blood.
- 2. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the compartment has an opening such that a test cartridge can be transferred from the container into a position proximate to a driver for lancing, wherein the driver provides the driving force for urging the lancet in the test cartridge for lancing.
- 3. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the container further comprises a second compartment for receiving one or more spent test cartridges.
- 4. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the container has an indicator mark indicating characteristics of the at least one test cartridge contained therein.
- 5. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the case includes an identification feature visible while the cartridge is in the cassette, from which identification feature characteristics of the at least one test cartridges in the cassette is determinable.
- 6. The cassette device according to claim 1 further comprising a calibration cartridge having a function of calibration or identification of the analytical characteristics of the at least one test cartridges in the cassette.
- 7. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the cassette can accommodate test cartridges each including two surfaces on opposite sides to facilitate stacking test cartridges together in the cassette.
- 8. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the container includes an axis upon which the cassette can turn to expose test cartridges one at a time to a driver for use.
- 9. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the cassette includes slots for holding bar-shaped test cartridges and the at least one test cartridge is bar-shaped having an axis parallel to which the lancet can extend.
- 10. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the lancet has an axis and is drivable to extend the tip along said axis for lancing without encountering a rigid part of the test cartridge and wherein the case shields the lancet from being touched by the patient before the lancet is driven to extend, the lancet being returnable into the case after lancing the skin.
- 11. A cassette device for an apparatus for sampling blood from a patient, comprising:
(a) at least one test cartridge having a case and a lancet, the case including a cavity for collecting blood for analysis, the case further including two surfaces on opposite sides to facilitate stacking test cartridges together for storage in the cassette device, the lancet having a tip and being housed in the case and operatively connected thereto such that the lancet can be driven to extend the tip outside the case for lancing the skin of the patient to yield blood, the lancet being returnable into the case after lancing for safe disposal; and (b) container having a first compartment for storing a plurality of new test cartridges including said at least one test cartridge and a second compartment for storing spent test cartridges, for loading one of said new test cartridges from the container to an actuator that can drive the lancet to lance the skin of a patient.
- 12. A cassette device for an apparatus for sampling blood from a patient, comprising:
(a) at least one test cartridge having a case and a lancet, the case including a longitudinal axis parallel to which the lancet can extend, the lancet having a tip and being housed in the case and operatively connected thereto such that the lancet can be driven to extend the tip outside the case for lancing the skin of the patient to yield blood for analysis, the lancet being returnable into the case after lancing for safe disposal; and (b) container having a cassette axis upon which the container can turn and having slots for holding test cartridges including said at least one test cartridge, each slot for holding a test cartridge, wherein the container can turn to expose test cartridges one at a time to associate with a driver to drive the lancet to lance the skin of a patient.
- 13. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the cartridge includes a cavity for collecting blood for analysis.
- 14. The cassette device according to claim 14 wherein the cartridge includes a test area for analysis of blood.
- 15. The cassette device according to claim 1 wherein the cartridge includes a test area for analysis of blood.
