Claims
- 1. A method for producing a cast bimetallic composite roll for cold rolling, comprising in combination a heart metal constituted by a nodular or lamellar cast iron and a case metal constituted by a steel, said method comprising the steps of:
- (1) centrifugally casting first a layer of the case metal of steel having a chromium content of 8 to 16%, a carbon content of 0.65 to 0.95% and a chromium/carbon ratio between 11 and 16, and then casting a core of the heart metal of modular or lamellar cast iron to form the bimetallic composite roll;
- (2) subjecting the thus-cast roll to an austenizing treatment at a temperature higher than 900.degree. C. for a period of 8 to 24 hours;
- (3) hardening the roll stopped at a temperature of 450.degree. to 550.degree. C., then maintaining the temperature at 500.degree. to 550.degree. C. for a period of 8 to 24 hours;
- (4) cooling the roll to room temperature; and
- (5) subjecting the roll to a tempering treatment so as to reactivate the austenite at a temperature between 400.degree. and 450.degree. C. for a period of 8 to 24 hours.
- 2. The method according to claim 1 in which the roll is hardened in air.
- 3. The method according to claim 2 in which the hardening air is blown damp air.
- 4. The method according to claim 1 in which the roll is cooled in step 8 by immersing same into blown air.
- 5. The method according to claim 1 in which the austenizing treatment is carried out at a temperature of 1,000.degree. to 1,050.degree. C. and the hardening is stopped at a temperature of between 500.degree. and 520.degree. C.
- 6. The method according to claim 1 in which the case metal has a thickness of substantially 30 to 70 mm.
- 7. The method according to claim 1 in which the case metal has the following composition:
- ______________________________________C Si Mn Cr Ni Mo V______________________________________ % ##STR12## ##STR13## ##STR14## ##STR15## ##STR16## ##STR17## ##STR18##______________________________________
- 8. The method according to claim 7 in which the case metal has the following composition, in percent:
- ______________________________________C Si Mn S P Cr Ni Mo V______________________________________0.715 0.470 0.705 0.025 0.020 9.60 0.68 1.150 0.535______________________________________
- 9. The method according to claim 1 in which heart metal is a nodular cast iron having the following composition:
- ______________________________________C Si Mn Ni Cr______________________________________ % ##STR19## ##STR20## ##STR21## ##STR22## <0.15______________________________________
- 10. The method according to claim 9 in which the heart metal has the following compositions, in percent:
- ______________________________________C Si Mn S P Cr Ni Mo Mg______________________________________3.02 2.42 0.48 0.008 0.022 0.10 0.50 -- 0.055______________________________________
