Claims
- 1. A method for casting a generally cylindrical lining wall in an existing manhole having an existing manhole wall of generally cylindrical configuration, said existing wall having a bottom and an annular top edge, said method comprising:
- assembling a plurality of arcuate form panels into a form assembly of multiple layers within said existing manhole, said form assembly having a generally tubular configuration having a radially outwardly presented arcuate surface located in inward radial spaced relation from said existing manhole wall;
- placing a plurality of sheet members of plastic material around said form assembly while said form assembly is within said manhole so as to completely surround said form assembly and so as to snugly embrace and cover said outwardly presented arcuate surface thereof whereby an annular space is left between said sheet members and said existing manhole wall, said sheet members having a plurality of protrusions extending radially outwardly therefrom into said annular space, wherein said assembling and placing steps are sequentially repeated for each layer of the form assembly;
- filling said annular space with concrete so that said protrusions are embedded within said concrete and so that said existing manhole wall is completely covered with said concrete;
- permitting said concrete to cure whereby said concrete forms a hard lining wall within said manhole, said lining wall having an inner circumferential surface;
- disassembling said panels of said form assembly and removing said panels from said manhole whereby said plurality of sheet members combine to cover and provide a protective layer of plastic over said inner circumferential surface of said lining wall.
- 2. A method according to claim 1 comprising forming said plurality of sheet members into at least one continuous ring member having an upper edge and a lower edge, said placement of said sheet members around said form assembly comprising fitting said continuous ring member over at least a portion of said form assembly.
- 3. A method according to claim 2 comprising forming said plurality of sheet members into more than one continuous ring member having an upper edge and a lower edge, and placing said continuous ring members over said form assembly in edge to edge relationship with one another, with said upper edge of each of said ring members being adjacent said lower edge of the one of said ring members immediately thereabove.
- 4. A method according to claim 2 comprising placing said continuous ring member over said form assembly within said manhole while said form assembly is in a partially assembled condition, and completing the assembly of said form assembly after said continuous ring member has been fitted over said partially assembled form assembly.
- 5. A method according to claim 3 comprising joining said adjacent upper and lower edges of said ring members together after disassembling of said panels of said form assembly so as to cause said sheet members to create a continuous plastic skin in covering relation over said inner circumferential surface of said liner wall.
- 6. A method according to claim 5 wherein said joining is accomplished by heat sealing.
- 7. A method according to claim 6 wherein said joining is accomplished by covering said adjacent edges with a strip of plastic material and by heat sealing said strip over said adjacent edges.
- 8. A method according to claim 7 wherein said sheet members are formed from a plastic material which is acid resistant.
- 9. A method according to claim 5 wherein said sheet members are made of polyvinyl chloride.
- 10. A method for casting a generally cylindrical lining wall in an existing sewer manhole having an existing manhole wall of generally cylindrical configuration, said existing wall having a bottom and an annular top edge, said method comprising:
- setting a first group of arcuate form panels within said bottom of said existing manhole, said first group of panels being formed into a cylindrically shaped form segment spaced radially inwardly from said existing wall of said existing manhole;
- forming one or more plastic sheet members into a first continuous ring sized to fit in close surrounding relation over said cylindrically shaped form segment, said sheet members having a plurality of protrusions on one surface thereof, said protrusions extending radially outwardly from the outwardly presented surface of said first ring;
- surrounding said cylindrically shaped form segment with said first ring while said form segment is within said existing manhole whereby an annular space is left between said sheet members and said existing manhole wall, said protrusions of said sheet members extending radially outwardly into said annular space;
- assembling additional groups of arcuate form panels above and coaxially with said first group of form panels so as to create a continuous tube shaped form assembly within said existing manhole, and after assembling each additional group of arcuate form panels,
- surrounding each assembled additional group with a respective additional ring formed from said sheet members of plastic sheet material whereby additional annular spaces are left between said additional rings of sheet members and said existing manhole wall, said additional rings of said sheet members having protrusions extending radially outwardly into said annular spaces;
- filling said annular spaces between said rings of said sheet members and said existing manhole wall with concrete with said protrusions of said plastic sheet members being embedded within said concrete;
- permitting said concrete to cure;
- disassembling and removing said form panels from said existing manhole whereby said cured concrete and said sheet members of plastic material form a substantially continuous inner wall for said manhole with said sheet members of plastic material substantially covering and protecting said cured concrete from corrosive materials within said manhole.
- 11. A method according to claim 10 wherein each of said form segments is initially partially assembled with a last one of said form panels missing, one of said continuous rings of said sheet members being placed in surrounding arrangement around said partially assembled form segment while said last form panel is missing, and assembling said last form panel into each of said form segments after said one ring of sheet members has been placed around said partially assembled form segment.
- 12. A method according to claim 10 wherein each of said rings comprise an upper annular edge and a lower annular edge, said method comprising placing said rings in vertical stacked relation to one another with said upper edge of each of said rings being positioned adjacent said lower edge of an adjacent one of said rings to form a seam therebetween, and joining said adjacent upper and lower edges together after said concrete has cured and said panels have been removed to form a seal over said seam.
- 13. A method according to claim 12 wherein said method further comprises joining said adjacent upper and lower edges of said rings together by heat sealing.
- 14. A method according to claim 13 wherein said method further comprises heat sealing a plurality of strips of plastic material in covering relation over said seams.
