Claims
- 1. Combined particles comprising (A) a major amount of solid particles capable of promoting the cracking of hydrocarbon feedstock at hydrocarbon cracking conditions to produce at least one hydrocarbon product and to cause deactivating carbonaceous material to be formed on said combined particles and (B) a minor amount of discrete entities comprising (1) a major amount by weight of substantially accessible alumina, (2) a minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one platinum group metal component deposited on said alumina, said platinum group metal component deposited on said alumina, said platinum group metal component being capable of promoting the oxidation of carbon monoxide to carbon dioxide at carbon monoxide oxidation conditions, and (3) minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of promoting hydrocarbon cracking at the conditions in said reaction zone.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein said combined particles are of a size suitable for use in a fluidized bed reaction zone-regeneration zone system and said platinum group metal component is present in an amount of about 0.05 ppm. to about 1% by weight of the total discrete entities, calculated as elemental metal.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 wherein said discrete entities are calcined prior to being incorporated into said combined particles and said solid particles are substantially free of added platinum-group metal component.
- 4. The composition of claim 3 wherein said alumina is gamma alumina.
- 5. The composition of claim 4 wherein said discrete entities contain at least about 70% by weight of gamma alumina and said platinum group metal component comprises a metal selected from the group consisting of platinum, palladium and mixtures thereof and is present in an amount of about 0.05 ppm. to about 1000 ppm. by weight of the total discrete entities, calculated as elemental metal.
- 6. The composition of claim 5 wherein said solid particles comprise a catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of promoting said hydrocarbon cracking at the conditions in said reaction zone, said platinum group metal component is substantially uniformly disposed on said alumina of said discrete entities and the relative amounts of said solid particles and said discrete entities in said combined particles are in the range of about 80 parts to about 99 parts and about 1 part to about 20 parts by weight, respectively.
- 7. The composition of claim 6 wherein the relative amounts of said solid particles and said discrete entities in said combined particles are in the range of about 90 parts to about 99 parts and about 1 part to about 10 parts by weight, respectively.
- 8. A composition of matter suitable for use in a chemical reaction zone-regeneration zone system comprising in intimate admixture (A) a major amount of solid particles capable of promoting the cracking of sulfur-containing hydrocarbon feedstock at hydrocarbon cracking conditions to produce at least one hydrocarbon product and to cause sulfur-containing carbonaceous material to be formed on said solid particles and (B) a minor amount of discrete entities comprising a major amount of alumina capable of associating with sulfur trioxide at the conditions in said regeneration zone and disassociating with sulfur trioxide at the conditions of said reaction zone and a minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of promoting hydrocarbon cracking.
- 9. The composition of claim 8 wherein said solid particles and said discrete entities are both of a size suitable for use in a fluidized bed reaction zone-regeneration zone and said discrete entities further comprise a minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of promoting hydrocarbon cracking.
- 10. The composition of claim 9 wherein said alumina is gamma alumina.
- 11. The composition of claim 10 wherein said solid particles comprise a catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate capable of promoting hydrocarbon cracking.
- 12. The composition of claim 11 wherein said discrete entities contain at least about 70% by weight of alumina and the relative amounts of said solid particles and said discrete entities are in the range of about 80 parts to about 99 parts and about 1 part to about 20 parts by weight, respectively.
- 13. The composition of claim 8 wherein said discrete entities further comprise a minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one metal component deposited on said alumina, said metal component being capable of promoting the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide at the conditions in said regeneration zone.
- 14. The composition of claim 9 wherein said discrete entities further comprise a minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one metal component deposited on said alumina, said metal component being capable of promoting the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide at the conditions in said regeneration zone.
- 15. The composition of claim 14 wherein said alumina is gamma alumina and said metal component is a platinum group metal component present in an amount of about 0.05 ppm. to about 1% by weight of the total discrete entities, calculated as elemental metal.
- 16. The composition of claim 15 wherein said alumina is substantially accessible alumina.
- 17. The composition of claim 16 wherein said solid particles comprise a catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of promoting hydrocarbon cracking.
- 18. The composition of claim 17 wherein said platinum group metal component is present in an amount of about 0.05 ppm. to about 1000 ppm. by weight of the total discrete entities, calculated as elemental metal.
- 19. The composition of claim 18 wherein said discrete entities contain at least about 70% by weight of alumina and the relative amounts of said solid particles and said discrete entities are in the range of about 80 parts to about 99 parts and about 1 part to about 20 parts by weight, respectively.
- 20. The composition of claim 19 wherein said discrete entities further comprise a minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of promoting hydrocarbon cracking.
- 21. Combined particles useful as catalyst in a reaction zone-regeneration zone system comprising (A) a major amount by weight of solid particles capable of promoting the cracking of sulfur-containing hydrocarbon feedstock at hydrocarbon cracking conditions to produce at least one hydrocarbon product and to cause deactivating sulfur-containing carbonaceous deposit material to be formed on said combined particles and (B) a minor amount by weight of discrete entities comprising a major amount by weight of substantially accessible alumina capable of associating with sulfur trioxide at the conditions in said regeneration zone and disassociating with sulfur trioxide at the conditions in said reaction zone and, a minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of promoting hydrocarbon cracking at the conditions in said reaction zone.
- 22. The composition of claim 21 wherein said combined particles are of a size suitable for use in a fluidized bed reaction zone-regeneration zone system, and said discrete entities further comprise a minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of promoting hydrocarbon cracking at the conditions in said reaction zone.
- 23. The composition of claim 22 wherein said discrete entities are calcined prior to being incorporated into said combined particles.
- 24. The composition of claim 23 wherein said solid particles are about 60% to about 99% by weight of said combined particles and said discrete entities are about 1% to about 40% by weight of said combined particles.
- 25. The composition of claim 24 wherein said alumina is gamma alumina.
- 26. The composition of claim 25 wherein said discrete entities comprise at least about 70% by weight of gamma alumina, said solid particles comprise a catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of promoting hydrocarbon cracking at the conditions in said reaction zone and the relative amounts of said solid particles and said discrete entities in said combined particles are in the range of about 80 parts to about 99 parts and about 1 part to about 20 parts by weight, respectively.
- 27. The composition of claim 26 wherein the relative amounts of said solid particles and said discrete entities in said combined particles are in the range of about 90 parts to about 99 parts and about 1 part to about 10 parts by weight, respectively.
- 28. The composition of claim 21 wherein said discrete entities further comprise a minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one metal component deposited on said alumina, said metal component being capable of promoting the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide at the conditions in said regeneration zone, and said solid particles are substantially free of added platinum group metal component.
- 29. The composition of claim 22 wherein said discrete entities further comprise a minor, catalytically effective amount of at least one metal component deposited on said alumina, said metal component being capable of promoting the oxidation of sulfur dioxide to sulfur trioxide at the conditions in said regeneration zone, and said solid particles are substantially free of added platinum group metal component.
- 30. The composition of claim 29 wherein said alumina is gamma alumina and said metal component is a platinum group metal component present in an amount of about 0.05 ppm. to about 1% by weight of the total discrete entities, calculated as elemental metal.
- 31. The composition of claim 29 wherein said alumina is gamma alumina.
- 32. The composition of claim 30 wherein said solid particles comprise a catalytically effective amount of at least one crystalline aluminosilicate zeolite capable of promoting hydrocarbon cracking.
- 33. The composition of claim 32 wherein said platinum group metal component is present in an amount of about 0.05 ppm. to about 1000 ppm. by weight of the total discrete entities calculated as elemental metal.
- 34. The composition of claim 33 wherein said discrete entities contain at least about 70% by weight of alumina and the relative amounts of said solid particles and said discrete entities are in the range of about 80 parts to about 99 parts and about 1 part to about 20 parts by weight, respectively.
