Claims
- 1. Catalyst carrier comprising a porous refractory material having the internal surface of its pores deposited with an active alumina, in which said deposited carrier has a total pore volume of 0.05 -0.50 cc/g, an average pore diameter of 0.05 -5.0.mu. and a specific surface area of 3-60 m.sup.2 /g.
- 2. The catalyst carrier of claim 1, wherein its total pore volume is 0.10-0.35 cc/g.
- 3. The catalyst carrier of claim 1, wherein its average pore diameter is 0.1-2.0.mu..
- 4. The catalyst carrier of claim 1, wherein its specific surface area is 10-30 m.sup.2 /g.
- 5. The catalyst carrier of claim 1, wherein said refractory material is selected from the group consisting of .alpha.-alumina, zircon, mullite, cordierite, or a compound which yields such a substance when fired.
- 6. The catalyst constituted by making the catalyst carrier of claim 1, carry a catalytic element.
- 7. The catalyst of claim 6, wherein said catalytic element is a platinum family metal.
- 8. The catalyst of claim 6 used for auto exhaust gas purification.
- 9. Manufacturing process of the catalyst carrier of claim 1, comprising:
- a step of preparing a porous carrier material;
- a step of immersing said material in aqueous solution of aluminum salt; and
- a step of drying it and heat-treating it, whereby the internal surface of the pores in said material is deposited with an active alumina and the step of immersing the carrier material in aqueous solution of aluminum salt and drying it is repeated until the desired total pore volume, average pore diameter and specific surface area is attained.
- 10. The manufacturing process of claim 9, wherein said refractory material is selected from the group consisting of .alpha.-alumina, zircon, mullite, cordierite or a compound which yields such a substance when fired.
- 11. The manufacturing process of claim 9, wherein more than 80% of said carrier material is a refractory material and less than 20% of it is a sintering agent.
- 12. The manufacturing process of claim 9, wherein the aluminum salt is aluminum nitrate.
