Claims
- 1. A catalyst composition comprising, in combination, a polymerization catalyst comprising a bulky ligand metallocene catalyst compound and a metal carboxylate salt wherein the polymerization catalyst and the metal carboxylate salt do not form a reaction product.
- 2. The catalyst composition of claim 1 wherein the metal carboxylate salt is represented by the formula:
- 3. The catalyst composition of claim 2 wherein y is either 1 or 2, M is a Group 2 or 13 metal, Q is a hydroxy group, and R is a hydrocarbyl radical having greater than 12 carbon atoms.
- 4. The catalyst composition of claim 1 where the carboxylate metal salt has a melting point of from 100° C. to 200° C.
- 5. The catalyst composition of claim 1 wherein the carboxylate metal salt is a stearate compound.
- 6. The catalyst composition of claim 1 wherein the carboxylate metal salt is selected from the group consisting of aluminum mono-stearate, aluminum di-stearate, aluminum tri-stearate, and a combination thereof.
- 7. The catalyst composition of claim 1 wherein the polymerization catalyst is a supported polymerization catalyst comprising a carrier.
- 8. The catalyst composition of claim 1 wherein the polymerization catalyst further comprises a carrier and an activator, and wherein the bulky ligand metallocene catalyst compound contains a titanium, zirconium or hafnium atom.
- 9. The catalyst composition of claim 1 wherein the bulky ligand metallocene catalyst compound is represented by the formula:
- 10. The catalyst composition of claim 1 wherein the weight percent of the metal carboxylate salt based to the total weight of the polymerization catalyst is in the range of from 0.5 weight percent to 100 weight percent.
- 11. A method for making a catalyst composition, the method comprising the steps of:
(a) forming a polymerization catalyst comprising a bulky ligand metallocene catalyst compound; and (b) adding at least one metal carboxylate salt.
- 12. The method of claim 11 wherein the polymerization catalyst is dry and free flowing and the metal carboxylate metal is in a solid form.
- 13. The method of claim 11 wherein the carboxylate metal salt is represented by the formula:
- 14. The method of claim 11 where the metal carboxylate salt has a melting point of from 100° C. to 200° C.
- 15. The method of claim 11 wherein the metal carboxylate salt is a stearate compound.
- 16. The method of claim 11 wherein the metal carboxylate salt is selected from the group consisting of aluminum mono-stearate, aluminum di-stearate, aluminum tri-stearate and combinations thereof.
- 17. The method of claim 11 wherein the polymerization catalyst is a supported polymerization catalyst comprising a carrier.
- 18. The method of claim 11 wherein the weight percent of the metal carboxylate salt based to the total weight of the polymerization catalyst is in the range of from 0.5 weight percent to 100 weight percent.
- 19. A method of making a catalyst composition, the method comprising the steps of:
(a) combining a polymerization catalyst comprising a bulky ligand metallocene catalyst compound with a metal carboxylate salt.
- 20. The method according to claim 19, in which the combining period is from 1 minute to 12 hours.
