Claims
- 1. A process for the vapor phase oxidation of isobutylene, or compounds thermally converted to isobutylene, to methacrolein which comprises oxidizing said isobutylene in the presence of molecular oxygen by passing the reaction mixture over a catalyst at a temperature in the range of from about 200.degree. to about 600.degree. C. wherein said catalyst has a composition represented by the formula
- Mo.sub.a P.sub.b Fe.sub.c Co.sub.d Ni.sub.e Bi.sub.f Te.sub.g Sb.sub.h Cs.sub.i Zr.sub.j X.sub.k O.sub.x
- wherein when a is 12; b is a number from 1.5 to 2.5; c is a number from 0 to 7; d is a number from 1 to 7; e is a number from 1 to 6; f is a number from 0.5 to 1.5; g is a number from 0.5 to 2; h is a number from 0 to 1; i is 0.5; j is a number from 0 to 2; k is a number from 0 to 2.0 and x is a value determined according to the state of oxidation and X is one or more elements selected from Cu, B, Al, K, La, Pr, Ru, La, V, W, or Y.
- 2. The process of claim 1 for the vapor phase oxidation of isobutylene, tert-butyl acetate, tert-butanol or tert-butyl methyl ether wherein the catalyst comprises Mo.sub.a P.sub.b Fe.sub.c Co.sub.d Ni.sub.e Bi.sub.f Te.sub.g Sb.sub.h Cs.sub.i Zr.sub.j X.sub.k O.sub.x wherein when a is 12; b is 2; c is 1-7; d is 3-7; e is 1-5; f is 1; g is 0.7-1.4; h is 0-1; i is 0.5; j is 0-1.75; k is 0-1 and X is one or more elements selected from Cu, B or Al.
- 3. The process of claim 2 wherein the catalyst comprises Mo.sub.12 P.sub.2 Fe.sub.5-7 Co.sub.5-7 NiBiSbZr.sub.1-1.75 Cs.sub.0.5 Te.sub.0.7 O.sub.x and x is a value determined according to the state of oxidation.
- 4. The process of claim 3 wherein the catalyst is Mo.sub.12 P.sub.2 Fe.sub.5 Co.sub.5 NiBiSbZrCs.sub.0.5 Te.sub.0.7 O.sub.x.
- 5. The process of claim 3 wherein the catalyst comprises Mo.sub.12 P.sub.2 Fe.sub.7 Co.sub.7 NiBiSbZr.sub.1.25 Cs.sub.0.5 Te.sub.0.7 O.sub.x.
- 6. The process of claim 3 wherein the catalyst comprises Mo.sub.12 P.sub.2 Fe.sub.7 Co.sub.7 NiBiSbZr.sub.1.5 Cs.sub.0.5 Te.sub.0.7 O.sub.x.
- 7. The process of claim 3 wherein the catalyst comprises Mo.sub.12 P.sub.2 Fe.sub.5 Co.sub.5 NiBiSbZr.sub.1.75 Cs.sub.0.5 Te.sub.0.7 O.sub.x.
- 8. The process of claim 3 wherein the catalyst comprises Mo.sub.12 P.sub.2 Fe.sub.5 Co.sub.5 NiBiSbZr.sub.1.25 Cs.sub.0.5 Te.sub.0.7 O.sub.x.
- 9. The process of claim 2 wherein the catalyst comprises Mo.sub.12 P.sub.2 Fe.sub.7 Co.sub.7 NiBiSbCs.sub.0.5 Te.sub.0.7 CuO.sub.x.
- 10. The process of claim 2 wherein the catalyst comprises Mo.sub.12 P.sub.2 Co.sub.5 Ni.sub.5 BiSbZrCs.sub.0.5 Te.sub.0.7 CuO.sub.x.
