Claims
- 1. A carbonylation catalyst composition, comprising a palladium source and an inorganic co-catalyst comprising zinc and a member selected from copper, titanium, iron, cerium, manganese, europium, bismuth, cobalt, ruthenium, rhodium, nickel, chromium and zirconium.
- 2. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, wherein said cocatalyst comprises zinc and europium.
- 3. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, wherein said cocatalyst comprises zinc and nickel.
- 4. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, comprising wherein said cocatalyst comprises zinc and zirconium.
- 5. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, wherein said cocatalyst comprises zinc and iron.
- 6. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, zinc and cobalt.
- 7. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, comprising zinc and ruthenium.
- 8. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, wherein said cocatalyst comprises zinc and rhodium.
- 9. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, wherein said cocatalyst comprises zinc and chromium.
- 10. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, wherein the palladium source is a Pd(II) salt or complex.
- 11. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 10, wherein the palladium source is palladium acetylacetonate.
- 12. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 10, wherein the palladium source is supported Pd.
- 13. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 10, wherein the palladium source is palladium on carbon.
- 14. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, further comprising a halide composition.
- 15. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 14, wherein the halide composition is tetraethylammonium bromide.
- 16. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 14, wherein the halide composition is hexaethylguanidinium bromide.
- 17. The carbonylation catalyst composition of claim 1, wherein the molar ratio of zinc relative to palladium of the palladium source is between about 0.1 and about 100.

The present application is a divisional application claiming priority to application No. 09/301700, filed Apr. 29, 1999, and issued as U.S. Pat. No. 6143914, on Nov. 07, 2000. The present invention is directed to a catalyst composition for producing aromatic carbonates and, more specifically, to a catalyst composition for producing diaryl carbonates through the carbonylation of aromatic hydroxy compounds.
