Claims
- 1. A solid catalyst for polymerization of an olefin obtained by thermally reacting (a.sub.1) a magnesium compound of the formula Mg(OR.sup.1).sub.n (OR.sup.2).sub.2-n wherein each of R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 which may be the same or different is an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group, and n is 2.gtoreq.n.gtoreq.0, (a.sub.2) a titanium compound of the formula Ti(OR.sup.3).sub.4 wherein R.sup.3 is an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group, and (a.sub.3) a silicon compound of the formula Si(OR.sup.4).sub.4 wherein R.sup.4 is an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group, and contacting and treating the resulting thermal reaction product (a) with (b) a halogen-containing titanium compound and (c) an electron donative compound of the formulas: ##STR2## wherein each of R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 is a hydrocarbon group which may be substituted by an alkyoxy group, or R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 may be bonded to each other to form a cyclic group,
- wherein the thermal reaction product (a) contains a solid product comprising magnesium, titanium, silicon and OR group where R is an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group,
- wherein the molar ratios relative to one mol of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) are:

- wherein the molar ratios relative to one mol of the magnesium compound in component (a) are:
- ______________________________________Halogen-containing titanium compound (b) 0.1-100Electron donative compound (c) 0.01-10.______________________________________
- 2. The solid catalyst component according to claim 1, wherein the thermal reaction of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1), the titanium compound (a.sub.2) and the silicon compound (a.sub.1), the titanium compound (a.sub.2) and the silicon compound (a.sub.3) is conducted in the presence of (a.sub.4) a compound of the formula R.sup.5 OH wherein R.sup.5 is an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group, and wherein the molar ratio of R.sup.5 OH to one mol of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) is 0.1-5.
- 3. The solid catalyst component according to claim 1, wherein when the thermal reaction product (a) is treated with the halogen-containing titanium compound (b) and the electron donative compound (c), the system is brought to a homogeneous system prior to the formation of solid.
- 4. The solid catalyst component according to claim 1, wherein when the thermal reaction product (a) is treated with the halogen-containing titanium compound (b) and the electron donative compound (c), the product (a) and the compound (b) are contacted at a temperature of from -70.degree. to 50.degree. C. and then the compound (c) is treated therewith at a temperature of from 50.degree. to 200.degree. C., or the product (a) and the compounds (b) and (c) are contacted simultaneously at a temperature of from -70.degree. to 50.degree. C. and then treated them at a temperature of from 50.degree. to 200.degree. C.
- 5. The solid catalyst component according to claim 2, wherein at least one of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1), the titanium compound (a.sub.2), the silicon compound (a.sub.3) and the compound (a.sub.4) of the formula R.sup.5 OH contains an aryloxy group.
- 6. The solid catalyst component according to claim 1, wherein the treatment of the thermal reaction product (a) with the halogen-containing titanium compound (b) and the electron donative compound (c) is repeated at least twice.
- 7. The solid catalyst component according to claim 1, wherein the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) of the formula Mg(OR.sup.1).sub.n (OR.sup.2).sub.2-n is selected from the group consisting of a dialkoxy magnesium, a diaryloxy magnesium, a diaralkyloxy magnesium and an alkyloxyaryloxy magnesium.
- 8. The solid catalyst component according to claim 1, wherein the silicon compound (a.sub.3) of the formula Si(OR.sup.4).sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of tetramethoxysilane, tetraethoxysilane, tetrapropoxysilane, tetrabutoxysilane, tetra(2-ethylhexoxy)silane, tetraphenoxysilane and tetra(p-methylphenoxy)silane.
- 9. The solid catalyst component according to claim 1, wherein the titanium compound (a.sub.2) of the formula Ti(OR.sup.3).sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of Ti(OCH.sub.3).sub.4, Ti(OC.sub.2 H.sub.5).sub.4, Ti(OC.sub.3 H.sub.7).sub.4, Ti(OC.sub.4 H.sub.9).sub.4, Ti(OC.sub.6 H.sub.5).sub.4 and Ti(OCH.sub.2 C.sub.6 H.sub.5).sub.4.
- 10. The solid catalyst component according to claim 2, wherein the compound (a.sub.4) of the formula R.sup.5 OH is an alcohol selected from the group consisting of ethanol, isopropanol, propanol, butanol, isobutanol, hexanol, octanol, 2-ethylhexanol and benzyl alcohol, or a phenol selected from the group consisting of phenol, cresol, xylenol and butylphenol.
- 11. The solid catalyst component according to claim 1, wherein the halogen-containing titanium compound (b) is selected from the group consisting of titanium tetrachloride and a titanium halogen-alcoholate compound.
- 12. The solid catalyst component according to claim 2, wherein when a thermal reaction product (a) of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1), the titanium compound (a.sub.2), the silicon compound (a.sub.3) and the compound (a.sub.4) of the formula R.sup.5 OH wherein at least one of the compounds (a.sub.1), (a.sub.2), (a.sub.3) and (a.sub.4) contains an aryloxy group, is treated with titanium tetrachloride (b) and the carboxylic acid ester (c) of the formula R.sup.6 COOR.sup.7, components (a) and (b) are contacted at a temperature of from -70.degree. to 50.degree. C. and then component (c) is contacted at a temperature of from 50.degree. to 200.degree. C. so that the system is brought to a homogeneous system prior to the formation of solid.
- 13. The solid catalyst component according to claim 1, wherein the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) of the formula Mg(OR.sup.1).sub.n (OR.sup.2).sub.2-n is selected from the group consisting of a dialkoxy magnesium, a diaryloxy magnesium, a diaralkyloxy magnesium and an alkyloxy-aryloxy magnesium, wherein the silicon compound (a.sub.3) of the formula Si(OR.sup.4).sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of tetramethoxysilane, tetraethoxysilane, tetrapropoxysilane, tetrabutoxysilane, tetra(2-ethylhexoxy)silane, tetraphenoxysilane and tetra(p-methylphenoxy)silane, wherein the electron donative compound (c) is of the formula R.sup.6 COOR.sup.7 wherein R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are as defined in claim 1, wherein the titanium compound (a.sub.2) of the formula Ti(OR.sup.3).sub.4 is selected from the group consisting of Ti(OCH.sub.3).sub.4, Ti(OC.sub.2 H.sub.5).sub.4, Ti(OC.sub.3 H.sub.7).sub.4, Ti(OC.sub.4 H.sub.9).sub.4, Ti(OC.sub.6 H.sub.5).sub.4 and Ti(OCH.sub.2 C.sub.6 H.sub.5).sub.4, and wherein the halogen-containing titanium compound (b) is selected from the group consisting of titanium tetrachloride and a titanium halogen-alcoholate compound.
- 14. The solid catalyst component according to claim 13, wherein the thermal reaction of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1), the titanium compound (a.sub.2) and the silicon compound (a.sub.3) is conducted in the presence of (a.sub.4) a compound of the formula R.sup.5 OH wherein R.sup.5 is an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group.
- 15. The solid catalyst component according to claim 14, wherein the compound (a.sub.4) of the formula R.sup.5 OH is an alcohol selected from the group consisting of ethanol, isopropanol, propanol, butanol, isobutanol, hexanol, octanol, 2-ethylhexanol and benzyl alcohol, or a phenol selected from the group consisting of phenol, cresol, xylenol and butylphenol.
- 16. The solid catalyst component according to claim 1, wherein the molar ratios relative to one mol of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) are:

- 17. The solid catalyst component according to claim 2, wherein the molar ratio of R.sup.5 OH to one mol of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) is 1-3.
- 18. The solid catalyst component according to claim 2, wherein the molar ratios relative to one mol of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) are:

- 19. The solid catalyst component according to claim 13, wherein the molar ratios relative to one mol of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) are:

- 20. The solid catalyst component according to claim 14, wherein the molar ratios relative to one mol of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) are:

- 21. The solid catalyst component according to claim 15, wherein the molar ratios relative to one mol of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) are:

- 22. The solid catalyst component according to claim 16, wherein the molar ratios relative to one mol of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) are:

- 23. The solid catalyst component according to claim 17, wherein the molar ratios relative to one mol of the magnesium compound (a.sub.1) are:

- 24. The solid catalyst component according to any one of claims 2-4, 5, 8, 9, 11, 16, 19 or 23, wherein the electron donative compound (c) is of the formula R.sup.6 COOR.sup.7 wherein R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 are as defined in claim 1.
- 25. The solid catalyst component according to claim 24, wherein the electron donative compound (c) is ethyl acetate, methyl propionate, ethyl acrylate, ethyl oleate, ethyl stearate, ethyl phenylacetate, methyl benzoate, ethyl benzoate, propyl benzoate, butyl benzoate, methyl toluate, ethyl toluate, propyl toluate, butyl toluate, methyl ethylbenzoate, ethyl ethylbenzoate, ethyl xylenecarboxylate, methyl anisate, ethyl anisate, methyl ethoxybenzoate, ethyl ethoxybenzoate or ethyl cinnamate.
- 26. The solid catalyst component according to claim 24, wherein the electron donative compound (c) is ethyl benzoate.
