Claims
- 1. Hydrometalation-desulfurization catalyst comprising: a hydrogenating component comprising the oxides or sulfides of at least one metal selected from the group consisting of Group VI B and Group VIII composited with an alumina base, said alumina base comprising theta or delta phase alumina, and said composite catalyst having not less than about 60% of its pore volume in pores with diameters of about 100A to about 200A, and not less than about 5% of its pore volume in pores greater than 500A in diameter, said composite catalyst being further characterized as having a surface area of less than 110 m.sup.2 /g.
- 2. The catalyst as claimed in claim 1, said catalyst also having not less than 5% of the volume of the pores less than about 40A in diameter.
- 3. The catalyst as claimed in claim 1, said hydrogenating component consisting essentially of about 2 to about 10 percent by weight cobalt and about 5 to about 20 percent by weight molybdenum.
- 4. The catalyst as claimed in claim 3 wherein said alumina base is produced by calcining an alpha monohydrate to a temperature of about 1700.degree. - 2000.degree. F.
- 5. A method of preparation of hydrodemetalation-desulfurization catalyst comprising: calcining an alumina selected from the group consisting of alpha monohydrate and beta trihydrate to a temperature of about 1700.degree.-200.degree. F; impregnating a Group VI B or Group VIII metal salt thereon; and drying and recalcining said impregnated alumina, thereby producing a catalyst having not less than about 60% of its pore volume in pores with diameters of about 100A to about 200A, and not less than about 5% of its pore volume in pores greater than 500A diameter, and a surface area less than 110 m.sup.2 /g.
- 6. The method as claimed in claim 5, said hydrogenating component comprising about 2 to about 10 percent by weight cobalt and about 5 to about 20 percent by weight molybdenum.
