Claims
- 1. A catalyst comprising a porous alumina support bearing 3-6 wt% of a Group VIII metal oxide, 14.5-24 wt% of a group VI-B metal oxide, and 0-6 wt.% of a phosphorus oxide, said catalyst having a Total Surface Area of 240-310 m.sup.2/ g, a Total Pore Volume of 0.5-0.75 cc/g, and a Pore Diameter Distribution whereby 63-78% of the Total Pore Volume is present as micropores of diameter 55-115 .ANG., 11-18% of the Total Pore Volume is present as macropores of diameter greater than 250 .ANG., and 0.12-0.16 cc/g of the Total Pore Volume is present as pores with diameters greater than 160 .ANG..
- 2. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein the Group VIII metal is selected from nickel or cobalt.
- 3. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein the Group VIB metal is selected from tungsten or molybdenum.
- 4. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein said catalyst has a Total Surface Area of 240-280 m.sup.2/ g.
- 5. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein said catalyst has a Total Pore Volume of 0.65-0.75 cc/g.
- 6. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein 63-78% of the Total Pore volume of said catalyst is in micropores of diameter of 55-115 .ANG. and 15-17% of the Total Pore Volume of said catalyst is in macropores of diameter greater than 250 .ANG..
- 7. The catalyst of claim 1 wherein said porous support is gamma alumina.
