Claims
- 1. A process for preparing ketones in high selectivity which comprises passing a secondary aliphatic alcohol in the gaseous phase with water vapor as feeds to a reaction zone containing a catalyst selected from the group consisting of compound or complex rhenium sulfides at a pressure of from about 0 to 2000 psig and employing an alcohol:water molar ratio of from about 0.01 to 100:1 to form the ketone corresponding to said alcohol.
- 2. The process according to claim 1 wherein said secondary aliphatic alcohol comprises secondary butanol.
- 3. The process according to claim 1 wherein said rhenium catalyst additionally comprises at least one promoter selected from the group consisting of sulfides of Group VIB and Group VIII noble metals.
- 4. The process according to claim 1 wherein said catalyst is supported on gamma-alumina.
- 5. The process according to claim 4 wherein said aliphatic alcohol contains from 3 to 10 carbon atoms.
- 6. The process according to claim 4 wherein said secondary aliphatic alcohol comprises secondary butanol and wherein said temperature is from about 250.degree. to 375.degree. C. and said pressure is from about 5 to 150 psig.
- 7. The process according to claim 6 wherein said rhenium sulfide catalyst additionally comprises at least one promoter selected from the group consisting of sulfides of Group VI B and Group VIII noble metals.
