Claims
- 1. A prepolymer-containing catalyst composition comprising poly(3-ethyl-1-hexene) and unsupported titanium trichloride.
- 2. A prepolymer-containing catalyst composition as in claim 1 wherein the prepolymer component is present in an amount within the range of from about 60 to 70 weight percent, based on the combined weight of the polymer and the catalyst.
- 3. A process of making the prepolymer-containing catalyst composition of claim 1 comprising contacting under polymerization conditions 3-ethyl-1-hexane monomer, unsupported titanium trichloride, an organoaluminum compound, a hydrocarbon solvent, and a chain transfer agent.
- 4. A coprepolymer-containing catalyst composition comprising a coprepolymer and unsupported titanium trichloride, said coprepolymer being a copolymer of a major amount of 3-ethyl-1-hexene and a minor amount of at least one reactive olefin.
- 5. A coprepolymer-containing catalyst composition as in claim 4 wherein said reactive olefin is selected from the group consisting of 3-methyl-1-butene, 3-methyl-1-pentene, 3-methyl-1-hexene, 3-methyl-1-octene, 4-methyl-1-pentene, 4-methyl-1-hexene, 5-methyl-1-hexene, 3-ethyl-1-pentene, 3-ethyl-1-octene, 3,3-dimethyl-1-pentene, 4,4-dimethyl-1-pentene, 3,4-dimethyl-1-pentene, 3,3-dimethyl-1-hexene, 4,4-dimethyl-1-hexene, 3,4-dimethyl-1-hexene, 3-methyl-4-4ethyl-1-hexene, allylcylcopentane, ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, 1-hexene, 1-octene, 1-decene, 1-hexadecene, and 1-octadecene.
- 6. A coprepolymer-containing catalyst composition as in claim 4 wherein the reactive olefin is 4-methyl-1-pentene.
