Claims
- 1. A composition comprising polyisocyanate, polyol, hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent consisting essentially of 1,1,2,3,3,-pentafluoropropane, surfactant, and at least one polyamine catalyst of the formula R.sup.16 R.sup.17 N--R.sup.18 --N(R.sup.19)--R.sup.18 --NR.sup.16 R.sup.17 wherein R.sup.16, R.sup.17, and R.sup.19 are the same or different and selected from hydrogen or straight chain and branched alkyl having 1 to 18 carbon atoms; cycloalkyl having 5 to 18 carbon atoms; straight chain or branched substituted alkyl and hydroxyalkyl having 2 to 18 carbon atoms containing --CH.sub.2 --CR.sup.4 R.sup.5 Cl where R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are the same or different and selected from hydrogen, bromine, chlorine, aryl, or alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or straight chain or branched alkoxyalkyl having 4 to 23 carbon atoms containing --CH.sub.2 --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --(CO).sub.a --O--CH.sub.2 --CR.sup.4 R.sup.5 Cl where R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are the same or different and selected from hydrogen, bromine, chlorine, aryl, or alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, n is 1 to 3, a is 0 or 1, R.sup.18 is selected from alkyl having 1 to 18 carbon atoms for polymerization of said polyisocyanate and said polyol wherein said polyamine catalyst is less volatile than N,N-dimethylcyclohexylamine or said polyamine catalyst is a tertiary amine having at least one isocyanate-reactive functionality selected from the group consisting of --OH and --NH-- wherein said polyamine catalyst results in a decreased amount of decomposition of said hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent to haloalkenes.
- 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein said polyamine catalyst is N,N,N',N",N"-pentamethyl diethylene triamine.
- 3. The composition of claim 1 which additionally comprises a nitroalkane which results in a decreased amount of decomposition of said hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent to haloalkenes during polymerization of said polyisocyanate and said polyol such that said haloalkenes are present in an amount of less than about 1500 micrograms per gram of said hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent.
- 4. The composition of claim 3 wherein said nitroalkane is nitromethane.
- 5. A process for preparing polyurethane foam consisting of the step of: reacting polyol with polyisocyanate in the presence of hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent consisting essentially of 1,1,2,3,3,-pentafluoropropane, surfactant, and at least one polyamine catalyst of the formula R.sup.16 R.sup.17 N--R.sup.18 --N(R.sup.19)--R.sup.18 --NR.sup.16 R.sup.17 wherein R.sup.16, R.sup.17, and R.sup.19 are the same or different and selected from hydrogen or straight chain and branched alkyl having 1 to 18 carbon atoms; cycloalkyl having 5 to 18 carbon atoms; straight chain or branched substituted alkyl and hydroxyalkyl having 2 to 18 carbon atoms containing --CH.sub.2 --CR.sup.4 R.sup.5 Cl where R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are the same or different and selected from hydrogen, bromine, chlorine, aryl, or alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or straight chain or branched alkoxyalkyl having 4 to 23 carbon atoms containing --CH.sub.2 --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --(CO).sub.a --O--CH.sub.2 --CR.sup.4 R.sup.5 Cl where R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 are the same or different and selected from hydrogen, bromine, chlorine, aryl, or alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms, n is 1 to 3, a is 0 or 1, R.sup.18 is selected from alkyl having 1 to 18 carbon atoms for polymerization of said polyol and said polyisocyanate wherein said polyamine catalyst is less volatile than N,N-dimethylcyclohexylamine or said polyamine catalyst is a tertiary amine having at least one isocyanate-reactive functionality selected from the group consisting of --OH and --NH-- wherein said polyamine catalyst results in a decreased amount of decomposition of said hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent to haloalkenes.
- 6. The process of claim 5 wherein said polyamine catalyst is N,N,N',N",N"-pentamethyl diethylene triamine.
- 7. The process of claim 5 which additionally comprises a nitroalkane which is capable of decreasing the amount of decomposition of said hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent to haloalkenes during polymerization of said polyisocyanate and said polyol such that said haloalkenes are present in an amount of less than about 1500 micrograms per gram of said hydrofluorocarbon blowing agent.
- 8. The process of claim 7 wherein said nitroalkane is nitromethane.
