Claims
- 1. A process for oxidation of C2-C8 alkane and alkane hydrocarbons to corresponding acids comprising contacting said hydrocarbons under oxygenating conditions with a mixed metal oxide catalyst system containing a catalyst composition comprising ModVbGacPddNbeXf wherein:X=at least one element selected from La, Te, and Zn; a is 1; b is 0.01 to 0.9; 0<c≦0.2; d is 0.0000001 to 0.2; 0<e≦0.2; 0<f≦0.5; and wherein the numerical values of a, b, c, d, e and f represent the relative gram-atom ratios of the elements Mo, V, Ga, Pd, Nb and X, respectively, in the catalyst composition and the elements are present in combination with oxygen.
- 2. The process of claim 1, wherein said catalyst system comprises a support selected from the group consisting of alumina, silica, titania, zirconia, silicon carbide, Mo-carbide, zeolites, molecular sieves or other microporous/nano-porous materials.
- 3. The process of claim 2, wherein said catalyst system comprises from 5 to 50% by weight catalyst composition and 95 to 50% by weight support.
- 4. A single stage catalytic process for direct conversion of C2-C8 alkanes to corresponding acids comprising oxidizing the alkane(s) in a reaction mixture comprising (i) C2-C8 alkane and (ii) oxygen or a compound capable of providing oxygen in a reaction zone in the presence of a mixed metal oxide catalyst system containing a catalyst composition comprising ModVbGacPddNbeXf wherein:X=at least one element selected from La, Te, and Zn; a is 1; b is 0.01 to 0.9; 0<c≦0.2; d is 0.0000001 to 0.2; 0<e≦0.2; 0<f≦0.5; and wherein the numerical values of a, b, c, d, e and f represent the relative gram-atom ratios of the elements Mo, V, Ga, Pd, Nb and X, respectively, in the catalyst and the elements are present in combination with oxygen.
- 5. The process according to claim 4, wherein the alkane is a C2-C4 alkane.
- 6. The process of claim 4, wherein the alkane is ethane, propane, isobutane, n-butane or mixtures thereof.
- 7. The process of claim 4, wherein said catalyst is in the form of a bed and said oxidation is carried out with a feed mixture comprising alkane fed into the reaction zone.
- 8. The process of claim 4, wherein said catalyst is in the form of a fluidized bed and said oxidation is carried out with a feed mixture comprising alkane fed into the reaction zone.
- 9. The process of claim 8, wherein said feed mixture further comprises air.
- 10. The process of claim 8, wherein said feed mixture comprises oxygen.
- 11. The process of claim 8, wherein said feed mixture comprises molecular oxygen ranging from 0.1 to 50% by volume of the feed.
- 12. The process of claim 9, wherein said feed mixture is diluted with steam in an amount ranging from 0 to 60% by volume.
- 13. The process of claim 7, wherein said oxidizing is achieved while operating in gas phase at a temperature of from 100 to 450° C., under a pressure of from 1 to 50 bars, and with a contact time between the reaction mixture and the catalyst of from 0.1 to 10 seconds.
- 14. The process of claim 7, further comprising multi-step introduction of oxygen into, the feed mixture.
- 15. A process for oxidizing one or more fluid phase reactants comprising C2-C8 alkanes or alkenes and alpha-beta unsaturated aliphatic aldehydes and oxygen to corresponding alpha-beta unsaturated carboxylic acids in fluid phase comprising contacting said reactants under suitable reaction conditions with a mixed metal oxide catalyst system containing a catalyst composition comprising MoaVbGacPddNbeXf;wherein: X=at least one element selected from La, Te, and Zn;a is 1; b is 0.01 to 0.9; 0<c≦0.2; d is 0.0000001 to 0.2; 0<e≦0.2; and F 0<f≦0.5.
- 16. The process of claim 4, wherein said catalyst is in the form of a solid moving bed and said oxidation is carried out by a feed comprising C2-C8 alkane/alkane fed into the reaction zone.
