Claims
- 1. A method for delivering a pharmaceutical composition to cells in one or more tissues of a mammal, comprising:
- contacting said cells with a complex comprising said pharmaceutical composition and a cationic amphiphile of the formula ##STR5## wherein Z is alkyl or alkoxyalkyl,
- R and R.sub.1 independently are straight-chain, aliphatic hydrocarbyl groups of from 11 to 29 carbon atoms inclusive and
- X is a cationic moiety of the formula
- --CH.sub.2 --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --N.sup.+ (R.sub.2).sub.3
- wherein n is an integer from 1 to 4 inclusive and R.sub.2 independently is hydrogen or lower alkyl,
- wherein said complex, when administered in vivo to a mammal, provides for entry of said pharmaceutical composition into said cells.
- 2. The method of claim 1, wherein said pharmaceutical composition comprises an antibiotic.
- 3. The method of claim 1, wherein said pharmaceutical composition comprises a nucleic acid.
