Claims
- 1. A cell necrosis apparatus, comprising:
- a flexible introducer including a lumen and a distal end sufficiently sharp to penetrate tissue, the introducer being sufficiently flexible to exhibit a changing direction of travel as it penetrates tissue at a selected tissue site;
- an energy delivery device including a first RF electrode with a tissue piercing distal portion and a second RF electrode with a tissue piercing distal portion, the first and second RF electrodes being positionable in the introducer as the introducer is advanced through tissue and deployable with curvature from the introducer at a selected tissue site in a lateral direction away from the periphery of the introducer.
- 2. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- an RF electrode advancement member coupled to the first and second RF electrodes and configured to advance the first and second RF electrodes through tissue.
- 3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the introducer is configured to receive a fluidic medium.
- 4. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first RF electrode includes a hollow lumen configured to receive a fluidic medium.
- 5. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the second RF electrode includes a hollow lumen configured to receive a fluidic medium.
- 6. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- an insulator positioned in a surrounding relation to at least a portion of the introducer.
- 7. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- an insulator positioned in a surrounding relation to at least a portion of the first RF electrode.
- 8. The apparatus of claim 7, further comprising:
- an insulator positioned in a surrounding relation to at least a portion of the second RF electrode.
- 9. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- an obturator positionable in the introducer and including a piercing distal end.
- 10. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- a sensor coupled to the first RF electrode.
- 11. The apparatus of claim 10, wherein the sensor is a thermal sensor.
- 12. The apparatus of claim 10, further comprising:
- a feedback control coupled to the sensor and to the first RF electrode.
- 13. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- a sensor coupled to the introducer.
- 14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first RE electrode is formed of a shaped memory alloy.
- 15. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first RF electrode is formed of stainless steel.
- 16. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the first and second RF electrodes are deployable to surround a selected tissue site.
- 17. The apparatus of claim 16, wherein the first and second RF electrodes are deployable to surround a tumor.
- 18. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising:
- an impedance measurement apparatus coupled to the energy delivery device.
- 19. The apparatus of claim 18, wherein the impedance measurement apparatus comprises:
- a controller;
- a microprocessor coupled to the controller; and
- a feedback control including circuitry, wherein RF energy is delivered to a tissue site, a measurement of a voltage and current of a tissue site are determined and the current adjusted according to the measurement of the voltage and current of the tisssue site.
- 20. An cell necrosis apparatus, comprising:
- a flexible introducer including a lumen and a distal end sufficiently sharp to penetrate tissue, the introducer being sufficiently flexible to exhibit a changing direction of travel as it penetrates tissue at a selected tissue site;
- an energy delivery device including a first RF electrode with a tissue piercing distal portion, a second RF electrode with a tissue piercing distal portion and a third RF electrode with a tissue piercing distal portion, the first second and third RF electrodes being positionable in the introducer as the introducer is advanced through tissue and deployable with curvature in a radially divergent configuration when extended beyond the introducer.
- 21. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising:
- an RF electrode advancement member coupled to the first, second and third RF electrodes and configured to advance the first and second RF electrodes through tissue.
- 22. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the introducer is configured to receive a fluidic medium.
- 23. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the first RF electrode includes a hollow lumen configured to receive a fluidic medium.
- 24. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising:
- an insulator positioned in a surrounding relation to at least a portion of the introducer.
- 25. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising:
- an insulator positioned in a surrounding relation to at least a portion of the first RF electrode.
- 26. The apparatus of claim 25, further comprising:
- an insulator positioned in a surrounding relation to at least a portion of the second RF electrode.
- 27. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising:
- an obturator positionable in the introducer and including a piercing distal end.
- 28. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising:
- a sensor coupled to the first RF electrode.
- 29. The apparatus of claim 28, further comprising:
- a feedback control coupled to the sensor and the first RF electrode.
- 30. The apparatus of claim 28, wherein the sensor is a thermal sensor.
- 31. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising:
- a sensor coupled to the introducer.
- 32. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the first RF electrode is formed of a shaped memory alloy.
- 33. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the first RF electrode is formed of stainless steel.
- 34. The apparatus of claim 20, wherein the first, second and third RF electrodes are deployable to surround a selected tissue site.
- 35. The apparatus of claim 34, wherein the first, second and third RF electrodes are deployable to surround a tumor.
- 36. The apparatus of claim 20, further comprising:
- an impedance measurement apparatus coupled to the energy delivery device.
- 37. The apparatus of claim 36, wherein the impedance measurement apparatus comprises:
- a controller;
- a microprocessor coupled to the controller; and
- a feedback control including circuitry, wherein RF energy is delivered to a tissue site, a measurement of a voltage and current of a tissue site are determined and the current adjusted according to the measurement of the voltage and current of the tissue site.
