Claims
- 1. A cellular tire liner for lining the interior of a pneumatic tire, said tire liner comprising:
a. an elastomeric cellular structure composed of a multiplicity of elastomeric cells; b. provisions for an air chamber in said interior of said tire that is subsequently sealed and pressurized; c. said tire liner being interposed between the interior surface of said tire and said air chamber; d. upon said lining, the entire exterior surface of said tire liner that is adjacent to said interior surface of said tire is in contact with said interior surface of said tire; e. said tire liner being in said contact with said interior surface prior to the pressurization of said air chamber, whereby said pressurization of said air chamber is not required to bring said tire liner into said contact with said interior surface of said tire; f. a substantial portion of the exterior surface of said tire liner that is adjacent to said air chamber forming an essentially vee shape, thereby defining a substantial portion of said air chamber as said essentially vee shaped, with the widest part of said vee shape furthest from the tread area of said tire; g. upon said pressurization of said air chamber, said pressurized air chamber exerts a constant force on said tire liner, whereby said tire liner is pressed against said interior surface of said tire.
- 2. A cellular tire liner for lining the interior of a pneumatic tire, said tire liner comprising:
a. an elastomeric cellular structure composed of a multiplicity of elastomeric cells; b. provisions for an air chamber in said interior of said tire that is subsequently sealed and pressurized; c. said tire liner being interposed between the interior surface of said tire and said air chamber; d. a substantial portion of the exterior surface of said tire liner that is adjacent to said air chamber forming an essentially vee shape, thereby defining a substantial portion of said air chamber as said essentially vee shaped, with the widest part of said vee shape furthest from the tread area of said tire; e. said essentially vee shaped portion of said exterior surface of said tire liner being in said essentially vee shape prior to the pressurization of said air chamber, whereby said pressurization of said air chamber is not required for shaping said exterior surface adjacent to said air chamber into said essentially a vee shape; f. upon said pressurization of said air chamber, said pressurized air chamber exerts a constant force on said tire liner, whereby said tire liner is pressed against said interior surface of said tire.
- 3. A cellular tire liner for lining the interior of a pneumatic tire, said tire liner comprising:
a. an elastomeric cellular structure composed of a multiplicity of elastomeric cells; b. provisions for an air chamber in said interior of said tire that is subsequently sealed and pressurized; c. said tire liner being interposed between the interior surface of said tire and said air chamber; d. a substantial portion of the exterior surface of said tire liner that is adjacent to said air chamber forming an essentially vee shape, thereby defining a substantial portion of said air chamber as said essentially vee shaped, with the widest part of said vee shape furthest from the tread portion of said tire; e. upon said lining of said pneumatic tire, said cellular structure is discontinuous, whereby the individual cells that comprise said elastomeric cellular structure, are not joined to all of the adjacent cells continuously, without any interruption throughout said lining; f. upon said pressurization of said air chamber, the force exerted by said pressurized air chamber on said discontinuous cellular structure causes said discontinuous cellular structure to be under a compression load, whereby said discontinuous cellular structure eliminates the tension load caused by air chamber pressurization.
- 4. A cellular tire liner for lining the interior of a pneumatic tire, said tire liner comprising:
a. an elastomeric cellular structure composed of a multiplicity of elastomeric cells; b. provisions for an air chamber in said interior of said tire that is subsequently sealed and pressurized; c. said tire liner being interposed between the interior surface of said tire and said air chamber; d. said tire liner establishes an annular interface when a multiplicity of said tire liners are used in said interior to line said tire; e. each of said tire liners in said multiplicity of said tire liners in said interior of said tire are individual and independent from other said tire liners in said interior of said tire; f. said annular interface being a ring-shaped surface forming a common boundary between said individual and independent tire liners in said interior of said tire; g. said annular interface extends from said air chamber to said interior surface of said tire, in the tread area of said tire.
- 5. A cellular tire liner for lining the interior of a pneumatic tire, said tire liner comprising:
a. an elastomeric cellular structure composed of a multiplicity of elastomeric cells; b. provisions for an air chamber in said interior of said tire that is subsequently sealed and pressurized; c. said tire liner being interposed between the interior surface of said tire and said air chamber; d. a substantial portion of the exterior surface of said tire liner that is adjacent to said air chamber forming an essentially vee shape, thereby defining a substantial portion of said air chamber as said essentially vee shaped, with the widest part of said vee shape furthest from the tread area of said tire; e. said tire liner establishes an annular interface when a multiplicity of said tire liners are used in said interior to line said tire; f. each of said tire liners in said multiplicity of said tire liners in said interior of said tire are individual and independent from other said tire liners in said interior of said tire; g. said annular interface being a ring-shaped surface forming a common boundary between said individual and independent tire liners in said interior of said tire; h. said annular interface extends from said air chamber to said interior surface of said tire, in said tread area of said tire.
- 6. A cellular tire liner for lining the interior of a pneumatic tire, said tire liner comprising:
a. a multiplicity of preconstructed cells comprising enclosed hollow cavities; b. prior to being incorporated into said cellular tire liner, each of said preconstructed cells is a complete, individual structure; c. each of said preconstructed cells comprises an external surface and an internal surface, defining one complete cell wall therebetween of a given thickness, completely enclosing a single hollow center of a given volume; d. said cell wall is composed of an elastomeric material; e. said hollow center of said preconstructed cells containing a gas within said hollow center under pressure above that of atmospheric; f. said multiplicity of preconstructed, individual cells having surface portions of said external cell wall surfaces, engaged with external cell wall surface portions of adjacent cells in a state whereby substantially all of the total external cell wall surface of all cells, is in engagement with surrounding portions of external cell wall surfaces of said surrounding cells; g. said multiplicity of preconstructed, individual cells are permanently connected together at said engaged external surface portions in said engaged state to collectively provide said cellular tire liner, whereby the cells of said cellular tire liner remain in said connected and said engaged state; h. provisions for an air chamber in said interior of said tire that is subsequently sealed and pressurized; i. said tire liner being interposed between the interior surface of said tire and said air chamber; j. a substantial portion of the exterior surface of said tire liner that is adjacent to said air chamber forming an essentially vee shape, thereby defining a substantial portion of said air chamber as said essentially vee shaped, with the widest part of said vee shape furthest from the tread portion of said tire; k. upon said lining of said pneumatic tire, the cellular structure of said cellular tire liner is discontinuous, whereby said individual cells that comprise said cellular structure, are not joined to all of said surrounding adjacent cells continuously, without any interruption throughout said lining; l. upon said pressurization of said air chamber, the force exerted by said pressurized air chamber on said discontinuous cellular structure causes said discontinuous cellular structure to be under a compression load, whereby said discontinuous cellular structure eliminates the tension load caused by air chamber pressurization.
- 7. A cellular tire liner for lining the interior of a pneumatic tire, said tire liner comprising:
a. a multiplicity of preconstructed cells comprising enclosed hollow cavities; b. prior to being incorporated into said cellular tire liner, each of said preconstructed cells is a complete, individual structure; c. each of said preconstructed cells comprises an external surface and an internal surface, defining one complete cell wall therebetween of a given thickness, completely enclosing a single hollow center of a given volume; d. said cell wall is composed of an elastomeric material; e. said hollow center of said preconstructed cells containing a gas within said hollow center under pressure above that of atmospheric; f. said multiplicity of preconstructed, individual cells having surface portions of said external cell wall surfaces, engaged with external cell wall surface portions of adjacent cells in a state whereby substantially all of the total external cell wall surface of all cells, is in engagement with surrounding portions of external cell wall surfaces of said surrounding cells; g. said multiplicity of preconstructed, individual cells are permanently connected together at said engaged external surface portions in said engaged state to collectively provide said cellular tire liner, whereby the cells of said cellular tire liner remain in said connected and said engaged state; h. provisions for an air chamber in said interior of said tire that is subsequently sealed and pressurized; i. said tire liner being interposed between the interior surface of said tire and said air chamber; j. a substantial portion of the exterior surface of said tire liner that is adjacent to said air chamber forming an essentially vee shape, thereby defining a substantial portion of said air chamber as said essentially vee shaped, with the widest part of said vee shape furthest from the tread area of said tire; k. said tire liner establishes an annular interface when a multiplicity of said tire liners are used in said interior to line said tire; l. each of said tire liners in said multiplicity of said tire liners in said interior of said tire are individual and independent from other said tire liners in said interior of said tire; m. said annular interface being a ring-shaped surface forming a common boundary between said individual and independent tire liners in said interior of said tire; n. said annular interface extends from said air chamber to said interior surface of said tire in said tread area of said tire.
- 8. A pneumatic tire including the cellular tire liner as defined in claim 1 wherein said tire liner is lining the interior of said pneumatic tire.
- 9. A pneumatic tire including the cellular tire liner as defined in claim 2 wherein said tire liner is lining the interior of said pneumatic tire.
- 10. A pneumatic tire including the cellular tire liner as defined in claim 3 wherein said tire liner is lining the interior of said pneumatic tire.
- 11. A pneumatic tire including the cellular tire liner as defined in claim 4 wherein said tire liner is lining the interior of said pneumatic tire.
- 12. A pneumatic tire including the cellular tire liner as defined in claim 5 wherein said tire liner is lining the interior of said pneumatic tire.
- 13. A pneumatic tire including the cellular tire liner as defined in claim 6 wherein said tire liner is lining the interior of said pneumatic tire.
- 14. A pneumatic tire including the cellular tire liner as defined in claim 7 wherein said tire liner is lining the interior of said pneumatic tire.
- 15. An assembly comprising the invention as defined in claim 8 and a wheel wherein said tire is mounted on said wheel.
- 16. An assembly comprising the invention as defined in claim 9 and a wheel wherein said tire is mounted on said wheel.
- 17. An assembly comprising the invention as defined in claim 10 and a wheel wherein said tire is mounted on said wheel.
- 18. An assembly comprising the invention as defined in claim 11 and a wheel wherein said tire is mounted on said wheel.
- 19. An assembly comprising the invention as defined in claim 12 and a wheel wherein said tire is mounted on said wheel.
- 20. An assembly comprising the invention as defined in claim 13 and a wheel wherein said tire is mounted on said wheel.

- 22. The assembly as defined in claim 16 wherein said air chamber is completely replaced by an independent insert which is of the same or similar construction to said elastomeric cellular structure.
