Claims
- 1. A coating composition comprising:
- (A) about 20 to about 80 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition, of a cellulose acetoacetate ester having a DS/AGU of 0.1 to 2.9,
- (B) about 20 to about 80 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition, of a coating solvent.
- 2. The coating composition of claim 1 wherein component (A) is present at 30 to 50 percent, and component (B) is present at 50 to 70 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition.
- 3. The coating composition of claim 1 wherein said coating solvent is selected from the group consisting of glycol ethers, ketones, and esters.
- 4. The coating composition of claim 3 wherein said coating solvent is selected from the group consisting of ethylene glycol butyl ether, ethylene glycol propyl ether, methyl amyl ketone, n-heptanone, n-butyl acetate, ethyl-acetate, and ethylene glycol ether.
- 5. A coating composition comprising:
- (A) about 25 to about 75 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition, of the cellulose acetoacetate ester product of claim 1,
- (B) about 25 to about 75 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition, of water.
- 6. The coating composition of claim 5 wherein component (A) is present at 50 percent and component (B) is present at 50 percent based on the weight of the total coating composition.
- 7. A coating composition comprising:
- (A) about 80 to about 95 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition, of the cellulose acetoacetate ester product of claim 5,
- (B) about 1 to about 15 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition, of a crosslinking agent, and
- (C) 0 to about 19 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition, of water.
- 8. The coating composition of claim 7, wherein component (A) is present at 85 to 90 percent, component (B) is present at 4 to 10 percent, and component (C) is present at 0 to 10 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition.
- 9. The coating composition of claim 7 wherein said crosslinking agent is a melamine resin, a urea resin, an amine-containing resin or a mixture thereof.
- 10. The coating composition of claim 9 wherein said crosslinking agent is hexamethoxymethylmelamine, hexabutoxymethylmelamine, tetramethoxymethylurea, tetrapropoxymethylurea, an amine terminated polyamide, an amine terminated polyoxyethylene, an amine terminated polyoxypropylene, or a mixture thereof.
- 11. A coating composition comprising:
- (A) about 85 to about 99 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition, of the cellulose acetoacetate ester product of claim 1,
- (B) about 1 to about 15 percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition, of a crosslinking agent, and
- (C) about 0 to about 2% percent, based on the weight of the total coating composition, of a catalyst.
- 12. The coating composition of claim 11 wherein
- component (A) is present at 87 to 95 percent,
- component (B) is present at 2 to 12 percent, and
- component (C) is present at 1 to 10 percent.
- 13. The coating composition of claim 11 wherein said crosslinking agent is an isocyanate-containing resin.
- 14. The coating composition of claim 13 wherein said isocyanate-containing resins is selected from the group consisting of resins based on hexamethoxydiisocyanate, toluene diisocyanate, and MDI.
- 15. The coating composition of claim 1 wherein said cross-linking agent is trimethylolpropane triacrylate and said catalyst is 1,8-diazabicyclo[5.4.0]-undec-7-ene.
- 16. The coating composition of claim 14 wherein said isocyanate-containing resin is Desmodur N-75 and said catalyst is dibutyltindilaurate.
- 17. The coating composition of claims 1, 5, 7 or 11 additionally containing up to about 70 percent, based on the weight of the cellulose acetoacetate ester, of at least one additional coating additive.
