Claims
- 1. An improved cement comprising a uniform mixture of a hydraulic cement and from 0.01 to 2 weight percent based on the weight of said hydraulic cement of an imidized acrylic polymer having a number average molecular weight of from about 1,000 to 100,000 and having units therein represented by the structures of: ##STR3## wherein each R independently represents hydrogen atom or a methyl (CH.sub.3 --) group; R' represents a hydrogen atom or a C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 oxyalkylene group represented by (BO).sub.n R" in which O represents an oxygen atom, B represents C.sub.2 -C.sub.10 alkylene group or mixtures thereof, R" represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl and n represents an integer of from 1-200, A represents a C.sub.1 -C.sub.10 alkyl group, R', a residual group of Z(BO).sub.n Z in which each Z represents a hydroxyl or amino group and B and O are each the same as defined above, an alkyl metal cation, an alkaline earth metal cation, an ammonium cation or a mixture thereof; and a, b, c, and d are numerical values representing molar percentage of the polymers structure such that a is a value of about 50 to 90; the sum of c+d is a value of from about 2 to 10, and b is a remainder value of {100-(a+c+d)}.
- 2. The improved cement of claim 1 wherein R' represents an oxyalkylene group, (BO).sub.n R" wherein B is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkylene group or mixtures thereof; R" is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl group; and n is an integer of from 1 to 70.
- 3. The improved cement of claim 1 wherein R' represents hydrogen atom.
- 4. The improved cement of claim 2 wherein at least a portion of A represents an oxyalkylene group (BO).sub.n R" wherein B is a C.sub.2 -C.sub.3 alkylene group or mixtures thereof; R" is a C.sub.1 -C.sub.3 alkyl group; and n is an integer of from 1 to 70.
- 5. The improved cement of claim 1 wherein the imidized acrylic polymer has a number average molecular weight of from about 1,500 to 20,000.
- 6. The improved cement of claim 2 wherein the imidized acrylic polymer has a number average molecular weight of from about 1,500 to 20,000.
- 7. The improved cement of claim 3 wherein the imidized acrylic polymer has a number average molecular weight of from about 1,500 to 20,000.
- 8. The improved cement of claim 4 wherein the imidized acrylic polymer has a number average molecular weight of from about 1,500 to 20,000.
- 9. The improved cement of claim 1 wherein a portion of A represents a residual group of Z(BO).sub.n Z in which each Z is selected from hydroxyl or amino groups, n has a value of 1-200 and wherein said portion still provides a water-soluble polymer.
- 10. The improved cement of claim 5 wherein a portion of A represents a residual group of Z(BO).sub.n Z in which each Z is selected from hydroxyl or amino groups, n has a value of 1-200 and wherein said portion still provides a water soluble polymer.
- 11. The improved cement of claim 6 wherein a portion of A represents a residual group of Z(BO).sub.n Z in which each Z is selected from hydroxyl or amino groups, n has a value of 1-200 and wherein said portion still provides a water-soluble polymer.
- 12. The improved cement of claim 7 wherein a portion of A represents a residual group of Z(BO).sub.n Z in which each Z is selected from hydroxyl or amino groups, n has a value of 1-200 and wherein said portion still provides a water-soluble polymer.
- 13. The improved cement of claim 8 wherein a portion of A represents a residual group of Z(BO).sub.n Z in which each Z is selected from hydroxyl or amino groups, n has a value of 1-200 and wherein said portion still provides a water-soluble polymer.
- 14. The improved cement of claim 11 wherein said imidized acrylic polymer further comprises units therein represented by the structural formula ##STR4## wherein R is the same as defined above, NR'" represents a heterocyclic group of which N is a part thereof and e represents a value of from 0.1 to about 10; and, further, b represents numerical values of 100 minus the sum of a, c, d, and e.
- 15. The improved cement of claim 2 wherein said imidized acrylic polymer further comprises units therein represented by the structural formula ##STR5## wherein R is the same as defined above, NR'" represents a heterocyclic group of which N is a part thereof and e represents a value of from 0.1 to about 10; and, further, b represents numerical values of 100 minus the sum of a, c, d, and e.
- 16. The improved cement of claim 3 wherein said imidized acrylic polymer further comprises units therein represented by the structural formula ##STR6## wherein R is the same as defined above, NR'" represents a heterocyclic group of which N is a part thereof and e represents a value of from 0.1 to about 10; and, further, b represents numerical values of 100 minus the sum of a, c, d, and e.
- 17. The improved cement of claim 4 wherein said imidized acrylic polymer further comprises units therein represented by the structural formula ##STR7## wherein R is the same as defined above, NR'" represents a heterocyclic group of which N is a part thereof and e represents a value of from 0.1 to about 10; and, further, b represents numerical values of 100 minus the sum of a, c, d, and e.
