Claims
- 1. A method of treating bacterial infections comprising administering to a warm-blooded animal an antibacterially effective but non-toxic dose of 250-1000 mg of a compound of the formula ##STR2## wherein R is CF.sub.3 or CF.sub.3 CH.sub.2 ;
- n is 0, 1 or 2; and
- Het is tetrazolyl, triazolyl, thiadiazolyl or oxadiazolyl, each unsubstituted or substituted with one or two alkyl groups of 1-4 carbon atoms or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof and a pharmaceutical carrier therefor.
- 2. A method of treating bacterial infections as claimed in claim 1 where Het is tetrazolyl, 1,2,4-triazolyl, 1,2,3-triazolyl, 1,3,4-thiadiazolyl, or 1,3,4-oxadiazolyl each unsubstituted or substituted with 1 or 2 methyl groups.
- 3. A method of treating bacterial infections as claimed in claim 2 where the compound is 7.alpha.-methoxy-7.beta.-trifluoromethylmercaptoacetamido-3-(1-methyltetrazol-5-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
- 4. A method of treating bacterial infections as claimed in claim 2 where the compound is 7.alpha.-methoxy-7.beta.-trifluoromethylmercaptoacetamido-3-(5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
- 5. A method of treating bacterial infections as claimed in claim 2 where the compound is 7.alpha.-methoxy-7.beta.-trifluoromethylmercaptoacetamido-3-(5-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
- 6. A method of treating bacterial infections as claimed in claim 2 where the compound is 7.alpha.-methoxy-7.beta.-trifluoroethylmercaptoacetamido-3-(1-methyltetrazol-5-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
- 7. A method of treating bacterial infections as claimed in claim 2 where the compound is 7.alpha.-methoxy-7.beta.-trifluoroethylsulfinylacetamido-3-(1-methyltetrazol-5-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
- 8. An antibacterial pharmaceutical composition comprising a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier and an antibacterially effective amount of a compound of the formula ##STR3## wherein R is CF.sub.3 or CF.sub.3 CH.sub.2 ;
- n is 0, 1 or 2; and
- Het is tetrazolyl, triazolyl, thiadiazolyl or oxadiazolyl, each unsubstituted or substituted with one or two alkyl groups of 1-4 carbon atoms or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
- 9. An antibacterial pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 8 where Het is tetrazolyl, 1,2,4-triazolyl, 1,2,3-triazolyl, 1,3,4-thiadiazolyl, or 1,3,4-oxadiazolyl each unsubstituted or substituted with 1 or 2 methyl groups.
- 10. An antibacterial pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 9 where the compound is 7.alpha.-methoxy-7.beta.-trifluoromethylmercaptoacetamido-3-(1-methyltetrazol-5-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
- 11. An antibacterial pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 9 where the compound is 7.alpha.-methoxy-7.beta.-trifluoromethylmercaptoacetamido-3-(5-methyl-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
- 12. An antibacterial pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 9 where the compound is 7.alpha.-methoxy-7.beta.-trifluoromethylmercaptoacetamido-3-(5-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
- 13. An antibacterial pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 9 where the compound is 7.alpha.-methoxy-7.beta.-trifluoroethylmercaptoacetamido-3-(1-methyltetrazol-5-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
- 14. An antibacterial pharmaceutical composition as claimed in claim 9 where the compound is 7.alpha.-methoxy-7.beta.-trifluoroethylsulfinylacetamido-3-(1-methyltetrazol-5-ylthiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
