Claims
- 1. A sintered ceramic core for use in casting a reactive metal, said core containing a ceramic material which, prior to sintering, includes between 10% and 40% by weight yttrium aluminate and 90% to 60% by weight alumina (Al.sub.2 O.sub.3).
- 2. A ceramic core as set forth in claim 1 wherein the mean particle size of the yttrium aluminate, prior to sintering, is less than 20 microns.
- 3. A ceramic core as set forth in claim 1 wherein the mean particle size of the yttrium aluminate, prior to sintering, is less than 10 microns.
- 4. A ceramic core as set forth in claim 1 wherein the mean particle size of the yttrium aluminate, prior to sintering, is approximately 3 microns.
- 5. A ceramic core as set forth in claim 1 wherein, prior to sintering, the ceramic material contains at least 20% yttrium aluminate.
- 6. A molded compact to be sintered to form a ceramic core for use in casting a reactive metal, said molded compact containing a ceramic material which includes 10% to 40% by weight yttrium aluminate and 90% to 60% by weight alumina (Al.sub.2 O.sub.3).
- 7. A molded compact as set forth in claim 6 wherein the ceramic material contains at least 20% yttrium aluminate.
- 8. A molded compact as set forth in claim 6 wherein the mean particle size of the yttrium aluminate is less than 20 microns.
- 9. A molded compact as set forth in claim 6 wherein the mean particles size of the yttrium aluminate is less than 10 microns.
- 10. A molded compact as set forth in claim 6 wherein the means particle size of the yttrium aluminate is approximately 3 microns.
