Claims
- 1. A process for performing crossed-electrophoresis comprising the steps of:
- a. subjecting a protein sample in a first carrier containing the protein sample to disc or flat disc electrophoresis,
- b. placing the so subjected first carrier in the depot of a chamber, said chamber including a base plate having a well therein, the depot separating the well into a migration well and a connecting well, and means being provided for defining a vertically variable gap in the depot,
- c. placing a second carrier distinct from said first carrier in the migration well of the chamber so that the first and second carriers are in contact with one another through the gap,
- d. subjecting said second carrier in said chamber to electroimmunomigration, whereby migration of protein from said sample in said first carrier into said second carrier takes place.
- 2. A process as recited in claim 1 comprising the further step of providing a polyacrylamide or starch gel as said first carrier.
- 3. A process as recited in claim 2 comprising the further step of providing an agarose gel as said second carrier.
- 4. A process as recited in claim 1 comprising the further step of providing a filter paper or an acetate foil as said first carrier.
- 5. A process as recited in claim 4 comprising the further step of providing an agarose gel as said second carrier.
- 6. A process as recited in claim 1 comprising the further step of providing an agarose gel as said second carrier.
- 7. A process as recited in claim 6 comprising the further step of adding antiserum to said gel in the migration well for precipitating the protein fractions.
- 8. A process as recited in claim 7 comprising the further step of leaving a strip of said gel in the migration well immediately adjacent to said depot free from anti-serum.
- 9. A process as recited in claim 1 comprising the further step of placing said second carrier in said connecting well in addition to placing it in said migration well.
- 10. A process as recited in claim 1 comprising the further step of introducing an agarose gel into the chamber in a layer thickness of about 1 mm as said second carrier.
- 11. A process as recited in claim 1 comprising the further step of introducing a plurality of carriers prepared with antiserum, each carrier separated by an impermeable layer, in said migration well.
- 12. A process as recited in claim 1 comprising the further step of preparing each of said carriers with different antiserum.
- 13. A process as recited in claim 11 comprising the further step of preparing each of said carriers with different dilution strips of one and the same antiserum.
