Claims
- 1. A method for managing change comprising:
changing an object of a product creation process; and accumulating the change without changing a baseline of a product structure associated with the product creation system if the change to the object is a soft change.
- 2. The method of claim 1, further comprising adopting the changed object in an entity to which the changed object is relevant.
- 3. The method of claim 1, further comprising validating the changed object.
- 4. The method of claim 1, further comprising generating a first baseline by accumulating information related to the product creation system and defining a second baseline by incorporating an accumulation of changed objects into the first baseline when a determined criteria is met.
- 5. A method of managing change in a product creation system, comprising:
changing one or more objects of a first baseline of a product structure in a product creation process; determining if the object changes require a baseline change; accumulating the object changes until a determined criteria is met if the object changes do not require a baseline change; and generating a second baseline, if the object changes require a baseline change or the determined criteria is met, by incorporating the object changes into the first baseline.
- 6. The method of claim 5, further comprising transmitting information regarding the object changes to a central product creation module, wherein accumulating the object changes until the determined criteria is met includes accumulating the object changes in the central product creation module.
- 7. The method of claim 5, wherein accumulating the object changes until the determined criteria is met includes accumulating the object changes until a determined number of object changes have been accumulated.
- 8. The method of claim 5, further comprising generating the first baseline by recording one or more objects associated with a product creation system.
- 9. The method of claim 8, wherein recording the one or more objects associated with the product creation system includes determining and saving information regarding a product to be produced by the product creation system.
- 10. The method of claim 9, wherein determining and saving information regarding a product to be created includes determining and saving information regarding a product chosen from the group consisting of automotive products, aerospace products, consumer products, and electronics.
- 11. The method of claim 8, wherein recording the one or more objects associated with the product creation system includes determining and saving information regarding attributes associated with a product produced by the product creation system.
- 12. The method of claim 11, wherein determining and saving information regarding attributes includes determining and saving information regarding attributes chosen from the group consisting of components and characteristics.
- 13. The method of claim 8, wherein recording the one or more objects associated with the product creation system includes determining and saving information regarding one or more of a parts list and a materials list for a product to be produced by the product creation system.
- 14. The method of claim 8, wherein recording the one or more objects associated with the product creation system includes determining and saving information regarding routings for producing a product.
- 15. The method of claim 5, further comprising saving development stage information with the second baseline.
- 16. The method of claim 5, further comprising distributing the second baseline to entities outside of an entity in which the second baseline was generated.
- 17. The method of claim 5, further comprising validating the second baseline.
- 18. The method of claim 5, further comprising validating each changed object in the second baseline.
- 19. The method of claim 5, further comprising changing a model view to reflect the second baseline.
- 20. A method for managing change, comprising:
storing master data in a first data store; and accumulating soft changes in the first data store without changing a baseline of a product structure, the soft changes received from entities linked to the first data store.
- 21. The method of claim 20, further comprising:
updating the master data in the first data store at a determined time using the soft changes.
- 22. A method for managing change in a product creation system, comprising:
receiving a change to an object of a product structure in a product creation system; determining if the change to the object was made during a formalized phase of the product creation system; accumulating the change, if the change was not made during a formalized phase, until a determined criteria is met; and generating a new baseline of the product structure if the change to the object was made during the formalized phase or if the determined criteria is met.
- 23. The method of claim 22, wherein accumulating the change until a determined criteria is met includes accumulating the change until a state where a number of decisions to be made for available options for objects in the product structure equals a predetermined number.
- 24. The method of claim 22, further comprising determining objects to be included in the product structure.
- 25. The method of claim 22, further comprising determining objects to be included in the product structure after the new baseline is generated.
- 26. A change management tool, comprising:
a change accumulation module for accumulating soft changes to objects of a product structure in a product creation system until a determined criteria is met; and a baseline generator for generating a baseline for the product structure in a product creation system.
- 27. The change management tool of claim 26, wherein the change accumulation module only receives changes made during a creative phase of the product creation system.
- 28. The change management tool of claim 26, wherein the determined criteria includes a state where a number of decisions to be made for available options for objects in the product structure equals a predetermined number.
- 29. The change management tool of claim 26, wherein the determined criteria includes a number of accumulated changes.
- 30. The change management tool of claim 26, wherein the determined criteria includes a time related criteria.
- 31. A system for managing change, comprising:
a first data store storing information regarding a baseline of a product structure of a product creation system; a second data store, the second data store storing soft changes to objects of the baseline made by an entity involved in the product creation system; and a network linking the first data store and the second data store, the network being used to transmit the soft changes to the objects of the baseline between the second data store and the first data store.
- 32. The system of claim 31, wherein the second data store further stores the baseline.
- 33. The system of claim 31, wherein soft changes to the baseline are accumulated in the first data store or the second data store.
- 34. A system for managing change, comprising:
a first data store storing master data; a second data store associated with an entity for storing soft changes to the master data; a network linking the first data store and the second data store, the network being used to transmit the soft changes to the master data between the second data store and the first data store.
- 35. A system for managing change, comprising:
a first data store; a plurality of entities; a link between the first data store and the entities, the first data store storing master data and accumulating soft changes from the entities.
- 36. A computer program product, tangibly stored on a computer-readable medium, the computer program product comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to:
change an object of a product creation system; and accumulate the change without changing a baseline of a product structure associated with the product creation system if the change to the object is a soft change.
- 37. The computer program product of claim 36, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to adopt the changed object in an entity to which the changed object is relevant.
- 38. The computer program product of claim 36, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to validate the changed object.
- 39. The computer program product of claim 36, further comprising further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to generate a first baseline by accumulating information related to the product creation system and define a second baseline by incorporating an accumulation of changed objects into the first baseline when a determined criteria is met.
- 40. A computer program product, tangibly stored on a computer-readable medium, the computer program product comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to:
change one or more objects of a first baseline of a product structure in a product creation system; determine if the object changes require a baseline change; accumulate the object changes until a determined criteria is met if the object changes do not require a baseline change; and generating a second baseline, if the object changes require a baseline change or the determined criteria is met, by incorporating the object changes into the first baseline.
- 41. The computer program product of claim 40, further comprising further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to transmit information regarding the object changes to a central product creation module, wherein the instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to accumulate the object changes until the determined criteria is met include instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to accumulate the object changes in the central product creation module.
- 42. The computer program product of claim 40, wherein the instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to accumulate the object changes until the determined criteria is met include instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to accumulate the object changes until a determined number of object changes have been accumulated.
- 43. The computer program product of claim 40, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to generate the first baseline by recording one or more objects associated with a product creation process.
- 44. The computer program product of claim 43, wherein the instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to record the one or more objects associated with the product creation system include instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to determine and save information regarding a product to be created by the product creation process.
- 45. The computer program product of claim 44, wherein the instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to determine and save information regarding a product to be created by the product creation system include instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to determine and save information regarding a product chosen from the group consisting of automotive products, aerospace products, consumer products, and electronics.
- 46. The computer program product of claim 43, wherein the instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to record the one or more objects associated with the product creation system include instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to determine and save information regarding attributes associated with a product produced by the product creation process.
- 47. The computer program product of claim 46, wherein the instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to determine and save information regarding attributes include instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to determine and save information regarding attributes chosen from the group consisting of components and characteristics.
- 48. The computer program product of claim 43, wherein the instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to record the one or more objects associated with the product creation system include instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to determine and save information regarding one or more of a parts list and a materials list for a product to be produced by the product creation process.
- 49. The computer program product of claim 43, wherein the instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to record the one or more objects associated with the product creation system include instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to determine and save information regarding routings for producing a product.
- 50. The computer program product of claim 40, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to save development stage information with the second baseline.
- 51. The computer program product of claim 40, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to distribute the second baseline to entities outside of an entity in which the second baseline was generated.
- 52. The computer program product of claim 40, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to validate the second baseline.
- 53. The computer program product of claim 40, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to validate each changed object in the second baseline.
- 54. The computer program product of claim 40, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to change a model view to reflect the second baseline.
- 55. A computer program product, tangibly stored on a computer-readable medium, the computer program product comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to:
store master data in a first data store; and accumulate soft changes in the first data store without changing a baseline of a product structure, the soft changes received from entities linked to the first data store.
- 56. The computer program product of claim 55, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to:
update the master data in the first data store at a determined time using the soft changes.
- 57. A computer program product, tangibly stored on a computer-readable medium, the computer program product comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to:
receive a change to an object of a product structure in a product creation process; determine if the change to the object was made during a formalized phase of the product creation process; accumulate the change, if the change was not made during a formalized phase, until a determined criteria is met; and generate a new baseline of the product structure if the change to the object was made during the formalized phase or if the determined criteria is met.

The computer program product of claim 57, wherein the instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to accumulate the change until a determined criteria is met includes instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to accumulate the change until a state where a number of decisions to be made for available options for objects in the product structure equals a predetermined number.
- 59. The computer program product of claim 57, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to determine objects to be included in the product structure.
- 60. The computer program product of claim 57, further comprising instructions operable to cause a programmable processor to determine objects to be included in the product structure after the new baseline is generated.
