The present specification relates to a method for performing channel access by a non-simultaneous transmit and receive (non-STR) multi-link device (MLD) in a wireless local area network system.
A wireless local area network (WLAN) has been improved in various ways. For example, the IEEE 802.11ax standard proposed an improved communication environment using orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) and downlink multi-user multiple input multiple output (DL MU MIMO) techniques.
The present specification proposes a technical feature that can be utilized in a new communication standard. For example, the new communication standard may be an extreme high throughput (EHT) standard which is currently being discussed. The EHT standard may use an increased bandwidth, an enhanced PHY layer protocol data unit (PPDU) structure, an enhanced sequence, a hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) scheme, or the like, which is newly proposed. The EHT standard may be called the IEEE 802.11be standard.
A method performed by a transmitting device in a wireless local area network (WLAN) system according to various embodiments of the present disclosure may include technical features related to a channel access method using a multi-link. A method performed by a transmitting multi-link device (MLD) in a wireless local area network (WLAN) system, wherein the transmitting MLD includes a first and a second stations (STAs), the first STA operates on a first link, and the second STA operates on a second link, the method comprises: performing, by the first STA, a first back-off operation; obtaining, by the first STA from the second STA, information that the second STA is in the middle of receiving a first physical protocol data unit (PPDU); and performing, by the first STA, a second back-off operation based on a back-off counter (BC) being 0 and the second STA being in the middle of receiving the first PPDU.
According to an example of the present specification, when some links are in the middle of receiving, by specifying the channel access method for other links in a non-STR MLD, collision between links of the non-STR MLD can be prevented. STAs included in Non-STR MLD may perform the backoff operation again without transmitting even if BC becomes 0 when another STA is in middle of receiving, by sharing information on their transmission/reception status.
According to an example of the present specification, when some links are being transmitted in Non-STR MLD, it is possible to solve the blindness issue of other links. By notifying the BA of NAV information due to an MLD other than the Non-STR MLD, the STA can configure the NAV and prevent collision.

Each symbol of the U-SIG may be used to transmit the 26-bit information. For example, each symbol of the U-SIG may be transmitted/received based on 52 data tomes and 4 pilot tones.
Through the U-SIG (or U-SIG field), for example, A-bit information (e.g., 52 un-coded bits) may be transmitted. A first symbol of the U-SIG may transmit first X-bit information (e.g., 26 un-coded bits) of the A-bit information, and a second symbol of the U-SIB may transmit the remaining Y-bit information (e.g., 26 un-coded bits) of the A-bit information. For example, the A-bit information (e.g., 52 un-coded bits) generated by the U-SIG may include a CRC field (e.g., a field having a length of 4 bits) and a tail field (e.g., a field having a length of 6 bits). The CRC field and the tail field may be transmitted through the second symbol of the U-SIG. The CRC field may be generated based on 26 bits allocated to the first symbol of the U-SIG and the remaining 16 bits except for the CRC/tail fields in the second symbol, and may be generated based on the conventional CRC calculation algorithm. The A-bit information (e.g., 52 un-coded bits) transmitted by the U-SIG (or U-SIG field) may be divided into version-independent bits and version-dependent bits. For example, the version-independent bits may have a fixed or variable size. For example, the version-independent bits may be allocated only to the first symbol of the U-SIG, or the version-independent bits may be allocated to both of the first and second symbols of the U-SIG. For example, the version-independent bits and the version-dependent bits may be called in various terms such as a first control bit, a second control bit, or the like.

For example, in an IEEE 802.11n system, 40 MHz channel bonding may be performed by combining two 20 MHz channels. In addition, 40/80/160 MHz channel bonding may be performed in the IEEE 802.11ac system.
For example, the STA may perform channel bonding for a primary 20 MHz channel (P20 channel) and a secondary 20 MHz channel (S20 channel). A backoff count/counter may be used in the channel bonding process. The backoff count value may be chosen as a random value and decremented during the backoff interval. In general, when the backoff count value becomes 0, the STA may attempt to access the channel.
During the backoff interval, when the P20 channel is determined to be in the idle state and the backoff count value for the P20 channel becomes 0, the STA, performing channel bonding, determines whether an S20 channel has maintained an idle state for a certain period of time (for example, point coordination function interframe space (PIFS)). If the S20 channel is in an idle state, the STA may perform bonding on the P20 channel and the S20 channel. That is, the STA may transmit a signal (PPDU) through a 40 MHz channel (that is, a 40 MHz bonding channel) including a P20 channel and the S20 channel.
Channel bonding may be performed when a channel contiguous to the primary channel is in an idle state. That is, the Primary 20 MHz channel, the Secondary 20 MHz channel, the Secondary 40 MHz channel, and the Secondary 80 MHz channel can be sequentially bonded. However, if the secondary 20 MHz channel is determined to be in the busy state, channel bonding may not be performed even if all other secondary channels are in the idle state. In addition, when it is determined that the secondary 20 MHz channel is in the idle state and the secondary 40 MHz channel is in the busy state, channel bonding may be performed only on the primary 20 MHz channel and the secondary 20 MHz channel.

A plurality of links used for ML communication may be set in various ways. For example, a plurality of links supported by one STA for ML communication may be a plurality of channels in a 2.4 GHz band, a plurality of channels in a 5 GHz band, and a plurality of channels in a 6 GHz band. Alternatively, a plurality of links supported by one STA for ML communication may be a combination of at least one channel in the 2.4 GHz band (or 5 GHz/6 GHz band) and at least one channel in the 5 GHz band (or 2.4 GHz/6 GHz band). The STA may perform an ML setup to perform ML communication. The ML setup may be performed based on a management frame or control frame such as a Beacon, a Probe Request/Response, an Association Request/Response, and the like. When ML setup is completed, an enabled link for ML communication may be determined. The STA may perform frame exchange through at least one of a plurality of links determined as an enabled link. For example, the enabled link may be used for at least one of a management frame, a control frame, and a data frame.
When one STA supports multiple links, a transceiver supporting each link may operate as one logical STA. For example, one STA supporting two links may be expressed as one Multi Link Device (MLD) including a first STA for the first link and a second STA for the second link. For example, one AP supporting two links may be expressed as one AP MLD including a first AP for a first link and a second AP for a second link. In addition, one non-AP supporting two links may be expressed as one non-AP MLD including a first STA for the first link and a second STA for the second link.
Hereinafter, more specific features related to the ML setup are described.
The MLD (AP MLD and/or non-AP MLD) may transmit, through ML setup, information on a link that the corresponding MLD can support. Link information may be configured in various ways. For example, information on the link may include at least one of 1) information on whether the MLD (or STA) supports simultaneous RX/TX operation, 2) information on the number/upper limit of uplink/downlink links supported by the MLD (or STA), 3) information on the location/band/resource of the uplink/downlink Link supported by the MLD (or STA), 4) information on the frame type (management, control, data, etc.) available or preferred in at least one uplink/downlink link, 5) information on ACK policy available or preferred in at least one uplink/downlink link, and 6) information on an available or preferred traffic identifier (TID) in at least one uplink/downlink Link. The TID is related to the priority of traffic data and is expressed as eight types of values according to the conventional wireless LAN standard. That is, eight TID values corresponding to four access categories (ACs) (AC_Background (AC_BK), AC_Best Effort (AC_BE), AC_Video (AC_VI), AC_Voice (AC_VO)) according to the conventional WLAN standard may be defined.
For example, it may be preset that all TIDs are mapped for uplink/downlink link. Specifically, if negotiation is not made through ML setup, if all TIDs are used for ML communication, and if the mapping between uplink/downlink link and TID is negotiated through additional ML settings, the negotiated TID may be used for ML communication.
Through ML setup, a plurality of links usable by the transmitting MLD and the receiving MLD related to ML communication may be set, and this may be referred to as an “enabled link”. The “enabled link” may be called differently in various expressions. For example, it may be referred to as various expressions such as a first link, a second link, a transmission link, and a reception link.
After the ML setup is completed, the MLD could update the ML setup. For example, the MLD may transmit information on a new link when it is necessary to update information on the link. Information on the new link may be transmitted based on at least one of a management frame, a control frame, and a data frame.
In extreme high throughput (EHT), a standard being discussed after IEEE802.11ax, the introduction of HARQ is being considered. When HARQ is introduced, coverage can be expanded in a low signal to noise ratio (SNR) environment, that is, in an environment where the distance between the transmitting terminal and the receiving terminal is long, and higher throughput may be obtained in a high SNR environment.

In extremely high throughput (EHT), a standard being discussed after 802.11ax, a multi-link environment using one or more bands at the same time is being considered. The MLD has one or more connected STAs and one MAC service access point (SAP) that connects to an upper link layer (Logical Link Control, LLC). An MLD may mean a physical device or a logical device. Hereinafter, a device may mean an MLD.
In the following specification, a transmitting device and a receiving device may refer to an MLD. The first link of the receiving/transmitting device may be a terminal (for example, STA or AP) that performs signal transmission/reception through the first link included in the receiving/transmitting device. The second link of the receiving/transmitting device may be a terminal (for example, STA or AP) that performs signal transmission/reception through the second link included in the receiving/transmitting device.
IEEE802.11be can support two types of multi-link operations. For example, simultaneous transmit and receive (STR) and non-STR operations may be considered. For example, an STR may be referred to as an asynchronous multi-link operation, and a non-STR may be referred to as a synchronous multi-link operation. A multi-link may include a multi-band. That is, the multi-link may mean links included in several frequency bands, or may mean a plurality of links included in one frequency band.
EHT (11be) may consider multi-link technology, where multi-link may include multi-band. That is, the multi-link may represent links of several bands and at the same time may represent several multi-links within one band. Two types of multi-link operations are being considered. The asynchronous operation that enables simultaneous TX/RX on multiple links and synchronous operation that is not possible are considered. Hereinafter, the capability that enables simultaneous reception and transmission in multiple links is called STR (simultaneous transmit and receive), a STA having STR capability is called a STR MLD (multi-link device), and a STA not having STR capability is called a non-STR MLD.

STR AP MLD is capable of TX/RX with a STA at any time. However, in the case of the non-STR STA MLD, when a DL/UL packet is received in one or more links, it is necessary to consider the channel access method in a link that is not being received and a channel access method in a link that is not transmitting when transmitting UL packets. Even for the non-STR, an opportunity to transmit to another link during reception may be given.
1. When the Non-STR STA MLD Receives a DL/UL Packet in One or More Links, a Channel Access Method in a Link that is not being Received
The non-STR STA MLD may recognize information about a packet (for example, a physical protocol data unit (PPDU)) through a PHY/MAC header.
In particular, since the above information must be shared among STAs in the STA MLD, a channel access method may vary depending on when information is shared and what information is shared.
Therefore, in the case of Non-STR STA MLD, when receiving a DL/UL packet in one or more links, a channel access method may be classified according to whether the above information is recognized or not. In particular, whether all of the above information is necessary or not may vary depending on whether the PPDU received by the MLD is a DL packet or a UL packet. For example,
Ex) DL case: In the case of OBSS, it is not necessary to receive the packet. If it is Intra BSS, it is not necessary to receive (that is, decode) the packet if it is not a receiver.
Ex) UL case: If it is determined as UL, it is not necessary to receive (that is, decode) regardless of OBSS/Intra BSS.

Channel access may be performed as follows, but is not limited thereto.
(1) If BC=0 Before Recognizing Enough Information
The meaning of “before recognizing sufficient information” of one STA in STA MLD means that no information has been shared from other STAs, or that the information was shared, but there is not enough information about the received frame for transmission as to whether something is being received.

In this case, the following method may be used, but is not limited thereto.
CASE 1-1) BC=0 is maintained until the information is recognized. When the STA recognizes the information of another STA, if it can transmit, it can quickly obtain a transmission opportunity.

CASE 1-2) Select BC again. That is, the backoff operation may be performed again. Although the channel access delay may be long, it may provide better fairness to the legacy STA, and may be performed in the same way as the existing protocol (transmission when BC=0).

Although BC=0 of STA 2, STA 2 fails to transmit and selects BC again, so a method for obtaining a faster transmission opportunity may be considered, and there may be the following methods.
Method 1) Select BC again between 0 and the current contention window (CW)[AC]
It is the same method as selecting BC before, and the channel access delay may be longer. That is, the CW that selects BC in the previously backoff operation and the CW that selects BC in the backoff operation that is performed again may remain the same.
Method 2) If the current CW is greater than CWmin[AC] (the minimum value of CW[AC] in 802.11), select BC again from 0 and CW[AC]/2
A faster transmission opportunity than Method 1 can be obtained, but in a congested environment, it may be somewhat unfair to other STAs.
Method 3) If the current CW is greater than CWmin[AC] (the minimum value of CW[AC] in 802.11), select BC again from 0 and CWmin[AC]
A faster transmission opportunity can be obtained on average than in Method 2, but in a congested environment, it may be unfair to other STAs.
Method 4) Select BC again between 0 and the current contention window (CW)[AC], and reduce the final BC to BC/2 (if BC/2 has a decimal point, it can be rounded up or rounded down)
Here, instead of ½, it can be further reduced to ⅓, ¼, etc. The less it is, the faster the transmission opportunity can be obtained.
Method 5) If the current CW is greater than CWmin[AC] (the minimum value of CW[AC] in 802.11), select BC again from 0 and CWmin[AC], and reduce the final BC to BC/2 (if BC/2 has a decimal point, it can be rounded up or rounded down)
Here, instead of ½, it can be further reduced to ⅓, ¼, etc. The less it is, the faster the transmission opportunity can be obtained.
Although method 5 may obtain the fastest transmission opportunity on average, it may give unfairness to other STAs according to some situations (for example, crowded situations). However, if it is considered as compensation for the part that cannot be transmitted when BC=0, it may be an applicable method.
(2) When BC=0 after Performing the Backoff Procedure and Recognizing Sufficient Information.
In this case, the PPDU may or may not be transmitted depending on the type of information.
CASE 2-1) If it is a DL PPDU, transmitted from its own BSS, and the receiver is itself
Since it is data that comes to itself, it is recommended that the MLD does not transmit UL in the meantime, and there may be the following methods.
A. STA 2 maintains BC=0 until the TXOP of DL transmission received by STA 1 ends, and immediately after the transmission is completed, PPDU can be transmitted when transmission or channel is in idle for a period of time (for example, 1 slot, SIFS, AIFS, PIFS, etc.). The interval for viewing channels can be from the end of TXOP to before or from the end of TXOP to after.

B. You can choose BC again. If TXOP of DL is terminated and BC is not zero 0, access delay may increase, but transmission may be performed in the same manner as in the existing protocol (transmission when BC=0).
Although BC of STA 2 becomes 0, STA 2 fails to transmit and selects BC again, so a method of obtaining a faster transmission opportunity may be considered. Whether to consider this may be as follows.
Method 1) Select BC again between 0 and the current contention window (CW)[AC]
It is the same method as selecting BC before, and the channel access delay may be longer. That is, the CW that selects BC in the previously backoff operation and the CW that selects BC in the backoff operation that is performed again may remain the same.

CASE 2-5) In Case of Failure to Judge the Transmitter
A situation may occur in which it is not possible to determine from where the PPDU is transmitted, such as a PHY/MAC header decoding error. In this case, even if it is a PPDU that comes to itself, since it cannot respond to an ACK in the first transmission, the corresponding AP can start backoff again. Therefore, when BC=0, the PPDU can be transmitted, since the PPDU can also be transmitted in other cases (CASE 2-2˜CASE 2-5), therefore, when BC=0, the PPDU is transmitted.

(3) In Case of Recognizing Information and Deciding Whether to Backoff
It may be determined differently depending on what the perceived information is.
CASE 3-1) Recognize the RX state, that is, information that the PPDU is currently being received from STA 1
In this case, STA 2 stops the back-off until sufficient information is shared from STA 1, and after that, when sufficient information is shared, the operations described in CASE 2-1 to CASE 2-5 may be performed.
CASE 3-2) In the case of a DL PPDU, the PPDU is transmitted from its own BSS, and when itself (that is, STA 1, which is another STA included in the same MLD as STA 2) is the recipient of the PPDU
STA 2 maintains the current BC and suspends (like NAV, BUSY) the backoff until the TXOP of the DL is finished, and after that, the backoff can be performed again.

3. In the case of CASE 2-2˜CASE 2-5 described above, proceed with Backoff as it is. That is, even before the backoff operation is performed, the STA 2 may perform the backoff operation as it is, if it is not a PPDU received by itself (that is, another STA included in the same MLD as itself).
Considerations for Non-STR STA MLD when Transmitting DL PPDU of STRAP MLD
In terms of the STR AP MLD, a different channel access method may be used according to the STR capability of the STA MLD transmitting the UL PPDU. When the non-STR STA MLD is in the middle of transmitting UL using one or more links, the STR AP needs to consider UL transmission when transmitting DL, and the following rule may be applied.
Basically, the STR AP can know that it is UL data transmitted to itself with the BSS color of the PHY header or the address/BSSID of the MAC header (that is, intra BSS transmission).
The AP MLD should not transmit DL to a non-STR STA MLD, that is transmitting a UL PPDU through one or more links, through a link that is not transmitting.
However, it is possible after AP MLD recognizes whether the non-AP MLD is a non-STR. The recognition method may be possible by checking the TA of the MAC header or when a field (for example, STA ID) for identifying exists in the PHY header.
If the AP MLD transmits to a STA other than the non-AP MLD, the DL TXOP may be aligned with the end of the UL TXOP of the non-STR STA. This may minimize the impact on the non-STR STA, but it is not necessary to match it.
2. When the Non-STR STA MLD transmits a UL PPDU in one or more links, channel access in a link which is not in the middle of transmission
In this case, it is a method applicable not only to the non-STR STA MLD but also to the non-STR AP MLD (that is, channel access in a link that is not transmitted during DL PPDU transmission). Basically, during transmission on one or more links (that is, during TXOP), since it is difficult to perform the existing CCA (for example, preamble detection, PD) method on another link (due to the blindness issue of the non-STR STA), the non-STR MLD may not perform EDCA back-off. However, the following method may be used.
For example, the non-STR MLD may include STA 1 and STA 2. During the period in which STA 1 does not transmit within the TXOP, STA 2 may perform a backoff procedure through the existing CCA.
Other methods of NAV setting can be found in “Considerations for operation after TXOP” mentioned later in this patent.
Since the BA Duration is Relatively Shorter than Data, EDCA Back-Off May not be Performed, Only CCA May be Performed to Receive NAV Information, and the Back-Off Count May be Maintained.
This method can prevent the back-off from being 0 during the BA duration, but it needs to change the existing rule. For example, the STA may not reduce the back-off in this period even if the channel is IDLE.
Perform CCA During the Data Transmission Section
Basically, in the case of non-STR, energy detection (ED) can be performed because preamble detection (PD) is difficult. If a channel for interference in another link due to TX of one link can be known, efficient CCA can be performed. In order to know the channel, continuous measurement training may be required.
It may be assumed that in-device interference in another link 2 due to TX of one link 1 is channel A, and it is assumed that a reception channel in link 2 is C. The current reception channel is likely to contain in-device interference signals as well as other signals such as OBSS. Therefore, if channel A is known, channel B of another signal such as OBSS can be obtained from channel A and channel C, and the signal strength of B can be calculated therefrom.

Considerations for Behavior after TXOP
Basically, after TXOP of one STA (for example, STA 1) of the non-STR STA MLD, the corresponding STA (for example, STA 2) may perform EDCA. However, if the transmission of another STA starts before the end of the TXOP, the NAV for this transmission cannot be set and ED sensing may be performed. That is, in this case, a collision may occur because transmission is also possible through EDCA. Therefore, the STA needs to know NAV information or other information of other links, and this method is as follows.
First, it is assumed that a new BA type indicating additional information is a non-STR BA. Non-STR BA may have a fixed type or a dynamic type. Here, the additional information may be, for example, information related to NAV.
Fixed type: It indicates all supported links and has a fixed field for each link.
Dynamic type: To indicate dynamic, 0 or 1 is used to indicate whether there is additional information about this link first. Taking NAV as an example, if the bit related to the dynamic type is 0, it means that the BA does not include NAV information, and if it is 1, it means that BA includes NAV information. If it is 1, NAV information for a link may be included thereafter.
If additional information for all links is always present, the fixed type may be good, but if there is no additional information or there is no need to indicate, the overhead for the fixed type may increase.
(1) NAV Information Instruction
A method of indicating NAV information during TXOP using Non-STR BA is as follows.
1) Use Non-STR BA for all BAs During TXOP
In this method, the STA can continuously grasp the NAV information, but if the NAV ends before the TXOP ends, this information becomes meaningless information, and thus the overhead may increase.
2) Use of Non-STR BA Only for Information about the Case where NAV Continues after TXOP
This method can reduce overhead compared to method 1).

(2) Indicate Only Whether or not to Transmit
In the (1) method of indicating NAV information, the operation after TXOP is considered based on NAV information, but a method of preventing collision through timer setting, not necessarily NAV information, can also be considered. That is, EDCA is not performed by a predefined timer after TXOP by indicating only whether or not it is currently being transmitted instead of NAV information. This method can reduce a lot of overhead compared to including NAV information, but since accurate NAV information is not known, when EDCA is resumed after the timer, a collision may occur.
1) Use Non-STR BA for all BAs During TXOP
In this method, the STA can continuously grasp the NAV information, but if the NAV ends before the TXOP ends, this information becomes meaningless information, and thus the overhead may increase.

2) Use of Non-STR BA Only for Information about the Case where NAV Continues after TXOP
This method can reduce overhead compared to method 1).

Basically, (1) provides more detailed NAV information than (2), but the overhead is large. In order to balance the overhead and granularity of NAV information between (1) and (2), a specific granularity can be defined in advance, and if a certain value is indicated, NAV information can be obtained using that value and granularity. The method for using Non-STR BA can be applied in the same way as method (1) and method (2).
The “methods for CCA during the non-transmission period” mentioned at the beginning of section 2 have a high possibility of ED based CCA, but can also detect the preamble. According to this method and the above-mentioned methods, NAV information (or other additional information) may be provided by the BA during TXOP. However, if the transmission is started on another link while the last BA is being received, it may not be possible to receive information through the BA. Therefore, the STA may perform a back-off in the last BA section during TXOP to identify NAV information. In this case, back-off is performed, and if NAV information (or other additional information) exists in the last BA, the operation may be performed based on this information. For example, if it is NAV information, back-off can be stopped and NAV can be set.

The transmission MLD may perform a backoff operation (S3910). For example, the first STA of the transmitting MLD may perform a back-off procedure for transmitting the PPDU.
The transmitting MLD may obtain information on the second STA being in the middle of receiving (S3920). For example, the first STA of the transmitting MLD may obtain information that the second STA is in the middle of receiving. For example, when the second STA receives a certain PPDU, the information shared by the second STA to the first STA may include information on the RX state, DL/UL through PHY header decoding, intra BSS/OBSS, TXOP information, and the receiver through MAC header decoding. If the second STA knows the receiver such as the STA ID of the PHY header of the PPDU (for example, when the STA ID is included in the PHY header), the second STA may know the receiver through PHY header decoding.
The transmitting MLD may perform a backoff operation (S3930). For example, even if BC=0 based on the backoff operation of S3910, STA 1 may perform the backoff operation again from the beginning without transmitting the PPDU based on the information that the second STA is in the middle of receiving.
Although the BC of the first STA becomes 0, the first STA fails to transmit and selects BC again, so a method of obtaining a faster transmission opportunity may be considered.
For example, between 0 and the current contention window (CW)[AC], BC may be selected again. It is the same method as selecting BC before, and the channel access delay may be longer. That is, the CW that selects BC in the previously backoff operation and the CW that selects BC in the backoff operation that is performed again may remain the same.
For example, the first STA may perform the second backoff operation based on a back-off counter (BC) being 0 and the second STA being in the middle of receiving the first PPDU.
For example, a contention window (CW) value of the first backoff operation may be the same as a CW value of the second backoff operation.

An artificial neural network (ANN) is a model used in machine learning and may refer to an overall problem-solving model that includes artificial neurons (nodes) forming a network by combining synapses.
