- said determining line-gap dot numbers including, in the external line gap, an outside frame space allowance in accordance with the width of the print medium;
- determining print attributes other than the line-gap dot numbers;
- developing a dot pattern corresponding to the input character string in accordance with the line-gap dot numbers and the print attributes; and
- printing the input character string on the print medium in accordance with the dot pattern thus developed.
- 3. A character printing apparatus for printing an input character string in a plurality of lines longitudinally on a print medium wherein the apparatus is adapted to receive print media of different widths within which the lines of the character string are spaced, the apparatus comprising:
- line-gap dot-number determining means for determining, through an arithmetic operation, line-gap dot numbers representing a number of dots to be allocated to an internal line gap between two consecutive lines of the character string and a number of dots to be allocated to an external line gap between an upper edge of the print medium and a first line of the character string and a lower edge of the print medium and a last line of the character string, on the basis of the width of the print medium, the number of lines of the input character string and the character sizes of the respective lines of the character string, said internal line gap including a ruled line space allowance which is a fixed value independent of the print medium width;
- print attribute determining means for determining print attributes other than the line-gap dot numbers;
