Abstract
A charging handle and an upper receiver for a firearm that prevent the build-up of gasses by allowing the gasses to be released. The upper receiver and the charging handle include multiple holes through which the gasses can be released and the blow of gasses over a face of a person can be prevented.
Description
FIELD OF INVENTION

The present invention relates to an upper receiver and a charging handle for a firearm, and more particularly, the present invention relates to an upper receiver and a charging handle with holes to release gases from a firearm.

BACKGROUND

The use of charging handles in firearms is known in the art. For example, an AR-15 gun has a charging handle for pulling the bolt. However, the use of charging handles has one major drawback. When operating the charging handle, the gasses from the firearm can gush toward the face of the person pouring all over the face. In particular, the gasses are irritating to the eyes.

Thus, a need is appreciated for an improved upper receiver and a charging handle for firearms that overcome the aforesaid drawback with conventional charging handles.

It will be further understood that the terms “comprises”, “comprising,”, “includes” and/or “including”, when used herein, specify the presence of stated features, integers, steps, operations, elements, and/or components, but do not preclude the presence or addition of one or more other features, integers, steps, operations, elements, components, and/or groups thereof.

The following detailed description includes the best currently contemplated mode or modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense but is made merely to illustrate the general principles of the invention since the scope of the invention will be best defined by the allowed claims of any resulting patent.

The following detailed description is described with reference to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements throughout. In the following description, for purposes of explanation, specific details may be outlined in order to provide a thorough understanding of the subject innovation. It may be evident, however, that the claimed subject matter may be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known structures and apparatus are shown in block diagram form in order to facilitate describing the subject innovation. Moreover, the drawings may not be to scale.

Disclosed is a firearm, and an assembly for a firearm, the assembly includes an upper receiver and a charging handle for firearms. Also, disclosed are the charging handle and the upper receiver for the firearm. The disclosed upper receiver and the charging handle may allow for release of the gasses from firing which can prevent any blow of the gasses over the face of a person operating the firearm. The disclosed upper receiver and the charging handle can be especially adapted for use with the AR-15 family of firearms.

Referring to FIGS. 1-3 which show an exemplary embodiment of the disclosed upper receiver 100 for a firearm, such as AR-15 firearm. The upper receiver 100 has a hollow body 110 that can receive different components of a firearm. Several holes 120 dispersed along the length i.e., longitudinal axis of the body 110 in the upper portion are shown. As shown in the drawings, these holes are made linearly along the longitudinal axis, wherein the holes make a row of holes. Two such rows of holes can be provided on the left and right sides of the body respectively. FIGS. 2 and 3 shown the left and right sides of the body having the respective row of holes according to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The holes in each row can be spaced apart from one another at regular intervals. In the upper receiver 100 shown in the drawings, each of the two rows has eight holes. It is understood, however, that the number of holes can be varied without departing from the scope of the present invention. Also, the linear arrangement of holes is preferred, however, any departure from linearly made holes, such as a staggered arrangement of the holes in the elongated hollow body of the upper receiver is within the scope of the present invention. Moreover, the size of holes can be varied without departing from the scope of the present invention. Preferably, the arrangement of holes, the number of holes in row, the size of holes can be optimized for a given firearm. Through the holes, the gasses can be released, preventing any build-up of the gasses inside the firearm which may otherwise release upon retracting the charging handle. Thus, the blow of gasses over the face of a person operating the firearm can be prevented.

As shown in the drawings, a central axis passing through a center of the holes can be at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the upper receiver. Preferably, the central axis of the holes can be at 45 degrees relative to the longitudinal axis of the hollow body of the upper receiver.

Referring to FIGS. 4-6 which show an exemplary embodiment of the disclosed charging handle 200. The charging handle 200 includes an elongated shaft 210 that is hollow and has a proximal end and a distal end. The proximal end 240 of the elongated shaft can engage with a bolt of the firearm when the charging handle is actuated. The elongated shaft has several holes 220 dispersed along the length of the elongated shaft in the upper portion thereof. As shown in the drawings, the holes are made linearly along a longitudinal axis, wherein the holes make a row of holes. Two such rows of holes can be provided on the left and right sides of the elongated shaft respectively. The holes in the row are spaced apart from one another at regular intervals. In the charging handle 200 shown in the drawings, each of the two rows has eight holes. It is understood, however, that the number of holes can be varied without departing from the scope of the present invention. Also, the linear arrangement of holes is preferred, however, any departure from linearly made holes, such as a staggered arrangement of the holes in the elongated shaft is within the scope of the present invention. The shape and size of the holes can also be varied without departing from the scope of the present invention. Through the holes, the gasses can be released, preventing any build-up of the gasses. Thus, the blow of gasses over the face of a person operating the firearm is prevented.

On the distal end of the elongated shaft can be provided a crossbar 230, wherein the structure and functioning of the crossbar in charging handles are well-known in the art. The structure of the crossbar can be varied without departing from the scope of the present invention.

As shown in the drawings, a central axis passing through the center of the holes 220 can be at an acute angle relative to the longitudinal axis of the elongated shaft 210. Preferably, the central axis of the holes 220 can be at 45 degrees relative to the longitudinal axis of the elongated shaft 210.

It is understood that in a given firearm can be provided with either the disclosed charging handle or the disclosed upper receiver or the both.

While the foregoing written description of the invention enables one of ordinary skill to make and use what is considered presently to be the best mode thereof, those of ordinary skill will understand and appreciate the existence of variations, combinations, and equivalents of the specific embodiment, method, and examples herein. The invention should therefore not be limited by the above-described embodiment, method, and examples, but by all embodiments and methods within the scope and spirit of the invention as claimed.
